Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 Feels Different 

I needed Collin to suffer. Penelope deserved to be pursued. Collin basically did whatever he wanted and the second he decided to get Penelope he had her. Pen deserves better.

I really don't understand why they tried to replicate the season 1 & 2 dynamic when those are people who've just met. A love story between people who've known each other their whole lives should have been approached very differently. Give us childhood flashbacks, lean into the girl next door/ boy next door trope. Don't give us a discount Anthony without any depth.

I'm with you on this. I just don't feel the chemistry with Polin. I definitely get the friend vibes but it never exceeds that, for me at least. I don't feel the tension or longing when they steal glances at each other. I felt more chemistry with Pen and Lord Debling than with Colin. So far, I'm disappointed

This season so far felt like watching and trying to be supportive of your perfect gorgeous talented friend while she yearns for the most plain ass man.

They didn’t feel like the main couple, Colin felt so uninteresting and bland. The show is called *Bridgerton* and Penelope Featherington has had more focus and growth than Colin *Bridgerton* .

The reason I'm disappointed is bc Polin seems very rushed, yet the creators are more invested in all these other main characters this season such as Francesca, Cressida and Eloise, Benedict and the cougar, the Mondrich's, Violet and her new love interest and so on. They have too many plot lines going on for other characters and I'm sad about it because this was supposed to be Polin's season and I was so looking forward to it and hoped it would be a slowburn season... The "lack of chemistry" literally feels to me like a writers mistake for rushing everything. They have chemistry and they've always had chemistry from the beginning.

“How could season 3 not be as good?” …Netflix. Who has notoriously floundered by every 3rd season of a banger show and admitted to writing shows off because after a certain point they have to pay the actors more…. Rip to our fallen series

Days before Colin asks Penelope to marry him... he was at the brothel? Penelope deserves better... like Lord Debling. There were just too many story lines and Polin got lost in there.

The Francesca storyline was way more interesting. I also feel like she may be on the spectrum a bit. Either way I'm ready to see her story

You just KNOW if this season fails, the executives are gonna blame it on the public not wanting to watch a +size actress as a main character instead of actually addressing the root of the problem, which is that they simply didn't stick the landing production-wise (the season does not focus enough of the main couple, we get lost in side plots, Colin has too little character development, the overall production quality is down & some scenes look like a CW show, etc.) 😮‍💨

I feel the brothel scenes in s2 made sense cause we’ve seen since s1 that Anthony uses sex as an escapism from his duties. So after what happened with Siena in s2 he is focus on his duties and doesn’t want to take on a mistress so…brothels. That whole montage with him interviewing debutants and doing his accounts and going to brothels made sense with his character. It made no sense with Colin, perhaps if we have some flashbacks as to why he needs it

I agree they messed up with splitting this season into two parts. All I can think about is how boring Colin is for the next month 🤣 and I didn't realize it until you said it, its more like Colin is lusting after her rather than romancing her and it feels so weird

I don’t see the chemistry and find Colin as boring as ever. Something off about the whole thing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Queen Charlotte was a masterpiece, I still think about scenes from that show daily and it still hurts lol I wish bridgerton was as good as queen charlotte. For a “side show” it was much more the main show, to me.

They should've done a montage of Colin teaching Pen !

The editing and direction was really bad. The pacing was off. The angles were off to the point that it gave so many unflattering shots. And the bridgertons barely had any family time. There family banter was the heart of the show. Eloise and Benedict not even having a heart to heart talk after losing her bestfriend makes no sense! I had to rewatch it a few times just so i can enjoy Polin's and Francesca's storylines while ffw the other subplots

I love Pen but this season even she should know actions have consequences. The way she impulsively writes badly about Colin without thinking it through makes me feel like she didn’t quite learn anything from how she treated Eloise. Eloise is off in her world (self centered), but not selfish or disloyal. She has always cared for and is loyally devoted to Pen. Pen betrayed and really hurt her to save her own self. Pen hasn’t grasped that, that’s why she has the high horse to judge Eloise for being friends with Cressida who was kind to her when Pen wasn’t. I dislike how Eloise’s hurt by Pen’s betrayal is being minimized. On another note, yeah the Polin scenes felt so rushed and unearned. I thought they’d give us flashbacks of how they met, and moments when Colin maybe felt like he may love her but didn’t realize. There was no drawing, no grappling with the idea of falling for a friend. It felt so unearned. They talked a lot about being friends but didn’t show it, I saw more friendship with Simon and Daphne (which is why they’re my fave). Also the pretend dating thing was already used in season 1, I didn’t think it would be necessary for a friends to lovers trope to work. I wish we saw into Colin and why he was drawn to Pen (what part of his upbringing made him long for what she brings), and also seeing into Pen’s whistledown alter ego. Why did this come up? Is she bored or is she trying to punish the world who she felt punished her? So much to flesh out.

Re: Eloise, I feel like the show is trying ~so hard to sell that she's lost without Pen. These two have more history and chemistry than Pen ever had with Colin tbh.

Omg yes!!! Finally!! I am NOT feeling Colin at all this season. They could have done so much to make him more worldly, rugged and experienced but instead he just halfway talks about it all and does those God awful winks. I physically cringed anytime he was supposed to be all sex appeal and flirty He looks like a boy dressing up with an expensive bagged pirate costume I REALLY thought they'd reveal he went nowhere either. When he's talking to groups of women he keeps saying things like "Oh well if I told you what I REALLY did in Spain/Greece/Narnia then you wouldn't be able to contain yourself" It's giving Ryan from the Office when he went to Thailand 🤣 🤣 🤣

Penelope for me is like the personification of a modern woman. She’s fallen for a man who doesn’t love her back. She’s doing things to help him, and his family while not expecting anything in return. She’s been burned by Collin’s sister. Collin has publicly humiliated Penelope, and risked her reputation. He’s told her to her face he doesn’t see her as a romantic partner. To me, his behavior is like a toddler who doesn’t want a play set but immediately wants it when someone else does. It feels like Penelope gave up all her self dignity to be picked by him. She left a stable, wealthy, and land owning man for Collin. A third son with no land to his name, and possibly no money. I just can’t, I get so upset thinking about this. Penelope deserves so much more than Eloise and Collin. Netflix should use Penelope as an example of first love not reciprocated and Collin learning the lesson of not knowing what you have until it’s gone. This would be a great story line.

Polin was like a horny dramatic teenage attraction that's doomed to fail. There's no real connection and it seems like they chose to tease us with a potential realistic type of relationship that could have turned into love with Debling and then toss it out for a quick grab with Polin. Francesca's storyline should have been the lead for this pt1 because it is just the done better and its more realistic at least to me. Plus they did kinda trick in the trailers by implying that Penelope was going to stand on business make Colin work to respect her and fight for her so she doesn't end up with debling.

Penelope has more chemistry with Eloise this season. I mean the longing they share....❤❤❤

Honestly I feel like the actors when they do pr for the show have wayyyy more chemistry than their characters on screen. Something definnitely went wrong... I don't get it because I watch clips of them and the looks etc are so cute and tense! Even tho the carriage scene was wild it kind of took me out because I didn't see much leading to it... Like was it really that one kiss that convinced Colin? And one dream?

I wanted flashbacks of Pen being bullied in her house by her mother and sister, than showing her feeling embrace by the Bridgeston family, and Collin defending her since kids, and how she feel at home with them isnted her family, flashbacks her friendship with Eloise, than we would feel so much more her sadness, and they shouldn't say "oh you like being by that window because you like seeing Collin" show how through the years she was always looking through that window.

In the books, Colin's journal was used to convey how he felt, for the most part, and personally, I think they could have utilized his journal more than that just that one scene where he cuts his hand. I think the writers and creators bit off more than they could chew with all these side characters this season, but since they kept the side-plots the least they could have done was add one or two more episodes to the season so that way everything didn't feel so cramped together. I would just like to add that it was evident that Colin was "drawn" toward Penelope since season one, this season he where we see him fall in love with her. Colin has been known to jump head-first(it is one of his more prominent character traits) into things which is why I really don't mind the fast pace of this season, he evaluated his feelings, thought on it for weeks, made a final decision, and went for it. He KNOWS what he wants. What he wants is HER. Our man is more determined and desperate than he has ever been before and I am here for it, LOL.

honestly i wish that they would have left collin looking the same...he was so sweet ...idk it looks almost uncanny

14:22 Season 1 chemistry was due to their conversations like they love being in each other's company. and Season 2 chemistry was because they were basically the same people, so WOULD have loved being in each other's company. (And clearly they do... 2nd honeymoon in 1 ish year of marriage) I cannot figure out a basis for chemistry between these two at all

Historically, men and women of high society had different bedrooms because the fashion of the times often required help dressing. You don't want the staff to see your partner naked, so you slept in different bedrooms

Many bits that might seem odd are from the books, like the proposal, carriage scene, him cutting his hand, and her asking to kiss him. I wish you could see their inner dialogues because that's how you see Colin's love for Penelope bloom, he realizes his love for her as he watches her from afar. I think that the show is rushing this season because so much has to happen regarding Lady Whistledown and Polin getting married

What went wrong is they cut the season in 1/2 out of greed

girl you are so insightful and genuinely really funny! hope you get more recognition and subs! also i agree i am not feeling the chemistry between polin. penelope is a genuinely interesting character with personality, goals, realistic insecurities, and actual flaws. colin is just kind of meh and seeing him being a rake and "charming" was genuinely so uncomfortable! his wink was a literal crime. i did not like how he only started becoming interested after they kissed and that first kiss was so awkward and forced! (pen STAND UP) it felt like he was lusting after pen rather than actually seeing her for who she is a person. also did not like how the moment he declared his love she immediately accepted him like girl where is the groveling?? francesca and john were more interesting to me tbh. hope part 2 is better...

Colin is probably the less interesting Bridgerton. Like he is sooooo boring, it is actually embarrassing. I really hope the second part will be better because… 💀 Francesca’s storyline is just so cute! And totally agree, if Cressida doesn’t even have a little crush on Eloise, I will need a refund.

Your statement about wanting Colin to grovel is what I wanted too. I wanted this man to be crying, throwing up, sick to his stomach, in the most pathetic state a man can be at the thought if losing Pen forever. Maybe it would have been a better plot if lord Debling was aware of Colin from the start and just didn't give a shit. Determined to make Pen his woman no matter what. Colin comes back, sees that Pen is moving on with someone else. He doesn't care at first because he comes back and all the girls are on him but his no 1 fan is not even looking at him. He starts vying for her attention, notices she doesn't fall for him like she usually does, like all the girls are now doing and it makes him sick. So he trys harder, the staunts getting more ridiculous while Pen and Debbling get closer. Colin looses his ever loving mind at this point, confronts her in front of everyone at a ball, she doesnt give in to him and now everybody knows he's into her and it's even more humiliating for him. Everybody talking about it, making fun of him. All that good stuff. And then we can go into the whole her being lady Whistledown. Eloise tells him the truth about Pen and he is hurt about it. He does try to move on from her. Maybe even throw in a tense argument between the two of them about lying and hurting each others feelings but let us not ignore the pinning, the love undertones beneath all the anger. They spend the rest of the courting period apart and Pen feels that yeah, now there is really no chance that her and Colin would ever be together. Colin and Debbling meet in a bar, club or something. Colin makes remarks about how Debbling doesn't know who he is marrying, obviously jealous. Debbling says that he hasn't proposed yet but tells him about how lucky he would be to have her as his wife because of reason's a to z she is wonderful. Colin realises, oh man she really is all that. I can't lose her to this man. He races to her house in a panic and askes to see her. Maid tells Pen she has a caller. She is surprised to see Colin. He lookes panicked. She askes him if he is ok, if he needs something to drink and he confesses. Says something beautiful like he is only ever ok when he is with her and if he has to look at her from afar any longer it will be the death of him. This, in front of Pen's mother and sisters. He then beggs her to pick him, choose him, love him. The end! If this season does not make me giggle and kick my feet in part 2, I will be writing a fan fiction 😂.

Yo TELL ME WHY after Queen Charlotte nobody is ending up with one of her 15 children?! I understand the people of the ton are not royalty but c’mon 15? We can spare a few to marry lords and ladies because they would never end up on the throne. I wanna see some of our babes at the tippity top 💅 Also I did NOT want to explore the more poor side of society on THIS season. Threw everything off. I highly recommend harlots on Hulu. Not enough people watched it and that is why it got canceled but it is a banger

I don't know what went wrong on the production side but during watching first episode it already felt different than the previous seasons. On less important details: costumes,make up, hairstyles.. 😬 and there's the plot. Too many things happening,too little focus on the main couple. Too rushed. I felt dizzy while watching this half of the season.

i actually appreciated things not working out for Penelope straight away even when she goes through all these changes. Yea she looked gorgeous and was such a sweeheart, unfortuantely sometimes its just a waiting game for when things start going right. Resonated with me a lot because sometimes our world takes a little long to catch up with the new us and being the new version of you in an old environment is so drainingggggg and frustrating.

This should be Benedict season and that would push Colin to grow up, give him and Penelope time to grow up. Also they decided to separate Eloise and Penelope so instead of cute meetups and bonding moments we got rushed story. I loved Colin from books, he ate everything what was served, he was always called the third Brigetron and because of that he felt like he didn't have a purpose. I dont understand the Brothel scenes, this was soooo unnecessary for the plot, just make me dislike him. Him should try run away from the marriage market, not firt with girls. I hope they will bond better over a writing, but for now I'm disappointed how this story was handled by producers

Season 2 reigns Supreme 😊

Season 3 was Shonda being Shonda after her show becomes popular. Doing too much of the new and abandoning the old that was quintessential to why people fell in love with the show. She did this to Scandal. It was a show about solving scandals every episode and she turned it into White House mistress chronicles

I wanted to see Colin WANTING her. I did think he looked a little gaunt in so scenes and I wonder if that’s meant to be him being sick for his love but I needed more of that. I needed it to look like time is really passing and he just can’t focus or be anything now he’s realised he loves her and he might have already lost her. I wanted pining. I wanted devastation that her and lord debling might be getting on. I liked debling a lot lol so I really needed more from Colin

Absolutely 100% agree with everything you said! I thought I was the only one who felt so underwhelmed by Polin this season, especially Colin. His character is so bland it's like emptiness on screen every time he shows up, which makes no sense because the actor is so charming and charismatic in all the promotinal work for the show. Something is awfully wrong with the direction this season and there just isn't a clear focus in the story. Let's hope they'll be able to save this mess but I don't have high hopes.

I agree with you 100%. I just really didn't feel the chemistry between Polin. I was talking to my friends about how their romance just didn't feel earned, for lack of a better word. He didn't show her a modicum of interest *until* they kissed, and even then his "obsession" with her seemed half-baked. He got wasted once and couldn't sleep with hookers and I'm supposed to believe he's in agony over her? BORE! I was rooting for Lord Debling! They had workable chemistry from their first interaction imo. I feel like the really fumbled his character by making him say he didn't think he'd ever love Pen. Honestly, it would've been a cute slow burn to see them develop to at least FRIENDS. If they wanted Polin to work, maybe it would've even felt more earned if Pen marries Debling and he's not all what he's cracked up to be and THEN she and Colin have some emotional affair. Like others have said, I definitely feel the friend energy for Polin but nothing more.

Colin helping Pen get a husband and then stemming in jealousy seing her with suitors sounded great. We got sold that. Ep 2: I'll help you get a husband because I'm your friend. Comedic mishaps. One or two successful conversations with other men and some happy banter with Colin. Episode ends with everyone finding out Colin is helping her. So there's the end of that. Damn it. That should have been longer. Meanwhile, the other plots... ok, fine, whatever. Just give me enough development. Instead ep.2 ended with the kiss request and so far little private moments. I'll see the other episodes tomorrow. I imagine one episode where the other suitor for Pen shows up, looks promising, and then end of ep.4 he steps down and Colin takes the initiative. No time for development even on the plots with Polin.

The carriage scene was such a disappointment. Like really? He's realized he's loved her and THAT act is his 1st physical interaction with her?? That wasn't romantic at all, it was just pure lust. Ive gotten more excitement about Polin from watching build up shorts on social media than the entirety of part one. They missed the mark and its such a let down. I didnt even feel anything about the vegetarian guy. He just gave me full of his self vibes. If they were gonna stray from the book and add him, they should at least made him more realistic and potential threat. Also....everyone's hair this season is just not it. Way overdone or looks cheap.

Yeah all seem like a cartoon version of themselves, they didnt develop the stories well, it was all too shallow, no build up at all!

I hated the broth*l scenes 🤢 I wish they had not done those. And I see what your saying - it doesn’t seem like he really loves her. But maybe they’ll make up for that in part two. There were touches of the fact that maybe he realized he loved her and just realized it - but it was just too quick. They didn’t give it enough scenes for that realization of that on his part. And they seem to be fitting three romances into one season. And then Eloise with Cressida - yuck friendship. Cannot believe they had that happen with how she treated Penelope in the past. Back to pen & Coleen: being he started to get jealous of the other love interest at a couple of balls. I did feel a little love there in the carriage with certain looks etc and then it did feel like he went at the end “yes, I love her” but it was still just all crammed in-- too much with not enough time. I’m hoping part two will do something better.

He already loved her. Now he is in love with her. Friends to lovers is usually a slow burn. Plus they could have used more of his journal to get more of his feelings instead of all the starting. Also, i feel like side characters took up too much time. Needed more time like two more episode for all the side plots. And she asked him because that happens on the book. I thought i was the only one, but Colin's confession looked rushed! Where's the waiting? Where's the slow realisation? Where's the denial, the jealousy? Colin asking for her hand at the end of the 4th ep itself is just not right! With Kate and Anthony we literally had to wait till the LAST episode 😭 What happened over here? I personally liked the side plots, but it looks they are in a hurry to make polin endgame. There was mystery in Eloise finding out about lady whistledown's identity for god's sake 🥲

Honestly it would've been SO funny and deserved if after making out in the carriage, Penelope just nopes out back to her home. Like use that man like he used you for emotional support all these years, treating you like some sort of therapy, make him pay for it WITH interest. GOD WHERE IS THE GROVELLING???? Honestly this season was BORING 😭😭... Hated their book and thought atleast the show will be good but there was no chemistry and direct kiss and fingering🙄🙄. Too much screen time on IRRELEVANT mondrich family was UNNECESSARY

I’ve never felt it for Polin …I don’t care for the “friends to lovers” trope if it’s severely lopsided which in this case it’s been for me. Maybe it was better in the books but I haven’t read them. I think Pen deserves better and Colin hasn’t showed any true development/feelings for her except this season and they came out of nowhere….I wish they would have used the previous seasons to develop his character more (than just traveling) and started to show signs of him having interest in Penelope. IMO the younger Bridgerton sister Francesca has the better match this season. I also don’t like all the other side stories…that time could’ve been spent on the development of the main couple…

It might just be me but I'm not too sure about the actor who plays Colin's skills as an actor. Or maybe it's because he's so young and he doesn't really know how to play to his strengths. I feel like the other actors are so much stronger.

agree with everything you say 100%. Right after finishing the part one i couldnt help but feel that Polin did not have enough screentime, technically they did but it felt very awkward and pointless. Nicola CARRIED the show not just on screen but off screen as well with the interviews. ->I sorta liked the Mondrichs story but I wanted to skip those scenes cause i was there for POLIN. I really couldn't care less for them. ->Speaking of the books, i really did not want to fill in the blanks in the characters and plots with the help of the book girlies, they're obviously not following the book but i still feel like they're relying on the fanbase to piece stuff together in the show. ->Francesca's story is really sweet and i can't help but wonder if they're trying to wrap up her story (at least with kilmartin) in this season itself, which feel SO unfair for Polin and Francesca herself. I've come across so many fans waiting especially just for Polin since season ONE and to treat their story like this feels cheap, also since Francesca's book is a fan favourite out of all the books. ->They could've made it into a proper love triangle, with the way colin was acting, i was almost rooting for pen and debling, and honestly she seemed to have more chemistry with debling even though he wasn't exactly looking for a love match. Colin did not grovel nearly as much as he should have. ->And Violet talking about how sensitive and selfless Colin is...girl...is sensitive and selfless Colin in the room with us? ->Even after the carriage scene, it just felt like they transitioned from friends to friends with benefits, not lovers. God it's a mess.

I agree with you on most of this but what I will say is that I don’t think the kiss making him sexually attracted to her was weird or out of place. During S2 the show made it a point to show that Collin finally realized how much Pen meant to him and that he really loved her personality (funny, caring, supportive, intelligent, etc). Yes, the kiss did ignite the sexual flame but he has always been attracted to her emotionally. That’s the entire idea behind “friend to lovers”. Great video!!

the new showrunner has turned the show into a disaster. there is zero chemistry or buildup of tension for polin and it’s not the actors faults at all bc like u said in their interviews and even photo shoots they have so much chemistry it’s insane. s3 is such a letdown after s2 which was insanely good

They needed two more episodes in part 1 to pull all of this together better. This seems like half of this season so far is a filler to set up the next couple seasons and Colin and Penelope are just kind of in there to get it over with. I didn't feel so many of the things they had to say out loud. And why the eff did we spend so much of our limited time worrying about the featheringtons needing to have babies?? I. Dont. Care. We needed more Benedict if anything. So many things annoyed me about this season. Thus far i probably wont be rewatching it like i have the first two.

Colin never expected Pen to ask him , request such an intimate thing as a kiss… they’ve been old time buddies since childhood, that took a lot out of her to ask, almost beg to be kissed “before dying,” poor Pen!

They have a new showrunner this season…… probably why some things parts are missing.

Polin felt rushed, so I didn’t feel that chemistry, also Debling acted too quickly. He made a big deal out of a man she loved before she met him. He seems so mature so his reaction was a bit off, I thought he would have had a mature conversation about it with her to give her time to decide.. but instead he stormed off like a child 😅 .. I agree. * she basically begged the guy to p^ty kiss her. Its not ideal but I guess they needed a way for colin to see her as a woman and take her out of the friend zone he placed her in. Having her first bluntly proclaim she aims to marry, have another guy be into her and then make him kiss her to discover his feelings. Its not romantic and passionate cause they are friends. Its awkw*rd and sweet instead like two kids. They are not acting on passion but reevaluating an already existing relationship. So thats different I guess. I love that though. Another friends to lovers I loved was a Chinese mini series called " Hidden Love". She fell first he fell harder. The guys need to break the girls heart first for them to not idealise their crush. The girls rechose the guys all over again when they finally wise up. I like the period when the girls think "he sees me as a friend" but the tables are turned and he is crushing harder but she is not seeing the signs cause she was disappointed before. And he is trying to figure out if she likes him too not knowing she loved him all her life. What I have a problem with is; Pen getting engaged while him not knowing the truth about her. Thats what she was so against in season 1. Thats a double standard right there.

Will is married to his wife, but the separate bedroom thing is a part of the upper class lifestyle. They’ve previously been middle to lower class and they wouldn’t have separate bedrooms. I do believe that the separate bedroom is the attempt at their version of birth control. As lower classes would have smaller homes as well, it’s also showing the difference between their old lives and their new station in society. This is also briefly touched on in the first season showing how Violet and her husband loved each other deeply and how they also shared a room out of preference to show a difference between their relationship vs. most of society. How many couples have married out of necessity and status rather than for love. I think this is also a reason for many couples to have separate rooms, because they aren’t as comfortable with each other. If this makes sense. I’ve also seen many movies and shows from the 50’s showing couples having separate beds in the same room, again going back to their form of birth control.

I totally agree! The plot has been way too rushed, and left no time for tension to build or even be felt due to the lack of chemistry with Polin. I think part 1 could really have done with some flashbacks of Pen and Colin as kids but also Colin’s time in Europe, flashbacks in previous seasons have always been used to explain why a character is the way they are, Simon and his dad, Anthony after his dad died, George’s mother insisting that doctors needed to “fix” him. If we saw what actually happened with Colin in Europe rather than his idealised version he tells to the other men of the ton, it may explain why he has such an ego and the kind of influences he had in being so “charming” to the ladys, instead of just saying “he went to Europe” and that’s it.

As someone who works in media and had a very amazing script writing teacher, my take on this is: The beginning had a huge missed oportunity. They should have started the show with a scene of the past, of a time, when the Featherington Family first moved in accross the Bridgertons. It could have been, that all the kid were playing but Penelope was always left out and never had the chance to really introduce herself, starting to become the laughing stock of the kids, and lets be honest, children can be very cruel. There it would have been the perfect scene of Colin feeling sorry and not liking the boys' behavior, showing his very caring side and that he in fact was a little gentleman and not like the other boys of his age. This would have been a scene which told us more about 1. how they met and became friendly with eachother, 2. the beginning of a deep friendship, 3. an idea of how Penelope started fantasizing the heros in her books as Colin thus making her crush for him even bigger and resulting in a unrequited love, her very well knowing that she had def. no chance with Colin as she knew that she was not like the girls he would tell her his dream wife should look and be like. Colin had his mother and perfect sisters as role models for what a woman should be and act like, making him think the way he saw his future bride and not seing the obvious choice in front of him. It would have been amazing to show the love for writing and literature of not just Eloise and Penelope, but also Colin. Why else show us a little glimps of it in the 3rd season? It would have been an even bigger and deeper connection between him, Penelope and his sister, making him being angry at Eloise and her new friendship between Cresida more understandable. It also would have been a better explanation of his yearning for the outside world and travelling, the audience would have understood that better than just telling that he likes to travel.....So all in all, to keep it short and simple: the first part of the season was rushed, showing that the showrunners did in fact not care about the "friends to lovers"-trope and what kind of storytelling it needs for the audience to understand.

You touched on a really good point I didn't know how to articulate: the sudden lust instead of the sudden fuzzy feelings then lust. When I think friends to lovers I think about the subtle changes first, starting from "we get each other like no one else does" "if I could pick anyone in the world to spend everyday with it would be you" "I don't feel like I can be my authentic self with anyone but you what does that mean for me? For my future?" then the "is it like this for her too? Does she feel like she can tell me anything? Say whatever goes on her mind etc etc" w emphasis on their friendship/companionship over the years talking through looks, seeking each other's eyes across the room when something funny happens etc THEN when that part was fully established move to something hornier I just saw her licking her lips and finger and now I can't think of anything else and it's making me restless, I shouldn't taint our friendship like this etc oh she's wearing this scandalous dress I want her to be my Beautiful Wife Forever Actually let's make that happen" type of thing, not whatever this is. This is acquaintances to lovers w a side of one sided pining at best, I truly hope it gets better on pt2 and at least SOME flashbacks

Colin's appeal disppeared when Penelope overheard him saying to Fife...AND HIS FRIENDS...WITH HIS FULL CHEST ...AT A PUBLIC EVENT...that he would never court Penelope. Bad choice. Colin did not exhibit gentlemanly behavior. Anthony, Benedict and Gregory WOULD NEVER. Is Colin even Edmund's son?! Maybe Violet had a fling with Fife's father and produced this nasty little jerk. Colin Bridgerton can go exploring in a wild place and get into an unfortunate accident and end up a pile of bleached bones. Ick.

I didn't like season 2 because I don't particularly like Anthony,On top of that it took forever for the back,and forth to end and for Kate to make up her mind..I loved season #1 and I hate to admit that so far season #3 has not left me wanting more..I felt like the brothel scenes were just their way of getting the nudity out of the way.🙄 Honestly, I just didn't feel the chemistry between Colin,and Penelope.I mean I keep hearing ppl gush over that carriage scene and I kept thinking that it was boring..I am sorry for being such a Debbie downer but that's how I feel right now.. Hopefully it will get better but for some reason I think that's not going to happen..
