Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 Ending Explained + theories 

I can’t believe you didn’t mention the fact that Benedict said they would be back for his mother’s ‘masked ball’ next season as that is where he meets Sophie.

I hate when they damage the original story to FORCE inclusion. Michael was my favorite male character and how he struggled being in love with Francesca while she was married to his cousin. How he inherited the title and how they struggled to have John and Janet. In the books, he is more handsome that all the Bridgertons and I was looking forward to who was going to portray him.

The new developments just shut it down for me😢Don’t care so much about what’s happening in 2026. The essence of the books is completely lost and butchered. The first season and Queen Charlotte was truly magical.

Completely disappointed with gender change for John’s cousin. Michael was one of my favorite Bridgerton characters in the books. You are bending the stories too much. 😢

Last season I will watch. First of all, Penelope and Colin had such a beautiful story in the books but we barely got to see it with all the other storylines going on. Felt disjointed to me. Then it seemed like they wanted to cram as much diversity as they could in this one season. Season 1 and 2 did it right but season 3 was a hot mess. I wanted the Bridgertons to stand behind Penelope and Colin to beam with pride for his clever wife (which she never had growing up) as he tells the ton who she is. I am NOT saying women need a man to speak for them but that part signified Penelope finally had a family who loved her and a soul mate that would lay the world at her feet and she deserves that. Penelope and Colin were robbed of their story. BUT the thing that has made me and from what I have read on the socials not want to watch again was the changing of Michael to Michaela. That is such a beautiful story. Michael fights his feelings for so long and they have such a moving storyline. To change it to a woman is just wrong. Pick another character not Michael. Maybe Rege and Phoebe did the best thing and jumped ship before it started sinking.

Too Many Storylines! Can we just focus on Penolope and Collin until the end? They were more than capable of carrying their love storyline without the forced sexual ambiguous storyline of Benedict - hated it! They seem to have more intimate scenes than Collin and Penelope - the main characters!! The Lady Danbury brother romance - boring they should have take that one out too! Last two episodes dissappointing and too distracting. Stick to the script - the book.

I think what they did to the books is terrible. I was really looking forward to the series, but it was so badly rewritten that for me it went into the uninteresting realm from then on. I would not be surprised if this season is not as well watched anymore. So the fourth season leaves me completely cold at the moment.

So when John dies who will inherit the Kilmartin Estate as it always goes to the male heir? Also Francesca losing her baby then she and Michael later fall in love and have 2 children. Everything has changed so what is left of that book ? I have no issues seeing two women fall in love with each other or Benedict in bed with a man. I do take great issue with destroying a book that was written 20 years ago and changing its direction when it doesn’t fit the era . It will be interesting to see what we will see and how many people will view her season . I am still confused who is in season 4, allegedly it was supposed to be shown at the end of episode 8 but I still don’t know.

Season 3 was a let down. They tried to hard and it showed. Very disappointed.

I wanted more Penelope and Colin. I feel like their storyline was cut so short. I loved their time together and I loved how both Colin and Penelope chose each other at the end. But this forced inclusion has to stop. Not everyone has to explore.

Benedicts storyline was useless. Also, the queens infatuation with whistledown was annoying. I enjoyed portias storyline this season. Also violet and Marcus. Too bad Cressida just didn't take the 5k and run. Greed isn't good. I don't understand what they're doing with francescas story.

I am furious at the gender change of Michael at the end of this season. The books are perfect. They should be brought to the screen as originally written.

WTF...a gay love story for Francesca? I am all for gay love etc etc but for someone who has read this entire series by Julia Quinn...this shit SUCKS if there is no Michael Sterling. Francesca and Michaels' story is amazing and now they are doing this shit to it. So piss!!

Sophie or Lucy could be black or and everybody would be fine with it, because it doesnt have a huge impact on the story and would be interesting as well. But changing a whole gender is extremly upsetting and very disappointing. Sexualising Benedict is too much as well. Tbh I wouldn't even be suprised if he ended up gay as well.... At this point its not about being "homophobe" or smt like that but its just not satisfying to see the adaption making extreme changes like those... .

I’m really disappointed…very disappointed. I’ve enjoyed the previous changes made to the books because it didn’t affect the overall storyline. By changing Michael to Michaela, it’s a whole new story I didn’t need. I watch Bridgerton because I’ve enjoyed the books. I know it’s great have representation but it’s pointless when it changes the overall story. And what’s going on with my fav Benedict? The show is turning him into a character I don’t recognize.

Do these people even know what most of people like ?? Do they even work in entertainment industry???? Do they use their brains?? Can't they take example from the downfall of Disney??? Like what the heck???? Can't they just let the stories as they are because they are perfect?? Can't they portrait some real values and not shove their disgusting agendas down our throats??? It's the writers fault if they think the characters are gay. None of the book characters are. I dont see why people want to automatically make people gay just because they dont want to marry or they are friendly people. Sigh, I wont be watching a Francesca story if that's what they going to do. I already had to endure Colin being slutty, Benedict just doing way to much for no reason at all. Why can't Netflix just let something stay somewhat pure.

I will never forgive them for changing a whole entire gender. I personally think Mikaela is beautiful. But if you wanted a black lead, you had Sophie still. Even Lucy. But when John said his cousin has arrived, I was on the edge of my seat to see the stunning man they had cast. But it was a woman instead. Excited for the new changings. But disappointed in terms of Michael, to say the least.

I am disgusted with what they have done with Benedict. What is doing is NOT in the books at all. This is just the television industry pushing their sick agenda again. Benedict was NOT a bisexual and this should never have been part of the show

😔 We don’t need the character stories to be so drastically changed. Every story doesn’t need to be recreated with an alphabet twist. It’s ok to stay true to the original stories.

I just read Benedicts book and he is NOT Bi or even Bi curious. The producers writers and who know who else are DREAMING> They just want to inexplicably turn a character gay for no reason to get themselves tintilated ITS RUBBISH.

As Season 3 was not entirely focused on Colin and Penelope, but we also saw the love story of Francesca and John, I believe that Season 4 will be split between Benedict and Francesca's stories or Eloise's.

Well, I was so excited to watch the 3rd part - but honestly... it was too much sex. In a very unrealistic way - that, for example , foils the characters of Colin and Penelope as well as Benedict. In the end, I admit it, I am gutted about how this part was arranged.

I just hope Sophie does Not become Stephen!😢

Fran's story is in my top three favorites. I'm so disappointed about the gender bend. This is supposed to be a period drama two woman together in the 1800's was unheard of. I wish they would stick to more of the book storyline.😮‍💨

SHONDA NO...too many subplots that were VERY boring..Benedict's direction was unnecessary, and distasteful. I was unable to watch those scenes. Collin and Pen was enough to carry the show. They didn't have to have them engage in premarital sex either. We did not get enough of them..smh..a massacre if you ask me..Season 1 again..

Loved first 2 seasons. They’re taking it too far out from the original. I liked Benedict’s character in his book but what they’re doing with him I’m not even interested in seeing his season.

Who else wishes they had made the season 10 episodes? Everything was so fast and I wanted MORE. I loved what I got but I really needed more of Polin. I felt like the show was pushing towards Benedict's upcoming season sooooo much. The masquerade ball statement to Eloise and him ending things with Tully. I just wanted more Polin. Again loved what I got but I wanted MORE!!!!

I loved this show until this season. They just had to force agendas down our throats. Nope. Not interested any longer. That is why I stopped watching Outlander. I could not even look at the characters the same. Some things are good already without pushing a homosexual tension plotline!

People are so biphobic it's unreal. Michael Sterling being cast as a woman doesn't have to change the beauty of their story! Their book was my favorite as well. I think casting a woman makes sense because Michael and Francesca had a deep friendship first, even more plausible with a woman cast. Benedict was just giving big bi energy (in the show) so that didn't surprise me, but I do wish bi people weren't ALWAYS portrayed as confused and promiscuous. If the show was ruined in any way for me, it was just too busy and the pace was way too fast.

I think the next season in two years will focus on Benedict because of the reference to the mascarade ball. The threesome made sense for his story line as they are portraying him in the series. Sets up a contrast to him meeting Sophie. I think next season they will also focus on Eloise like they did with Francesca and Colin, and then have one more season with Hyacinth and Gregory. It seems like they didn’t get the budget for one sibling per season, so they are doubling up per season. Thus, Season 3 seemed rushed. Now I understand the importance of the cousin being a woman. I didn’t get it having not read the books. It did seem like Francesca was afraid of her and not attracted to her.

I’m truly disappointed and sickened at how drastically they’ve changed a perfectly great story from the books. I only watched it due to my love for the books. To weirdly sexualize Benedict and to change Michael’s gender to Mikaela is utter insanity!!! If a story is actually written in that way, then by all means produce the show that way and play it on your dedicated channels and stop trying to shove it down the throat of the remainder of the population. It’s rather disrespectful to rewrite an already spectacular story to be DEI inclusive and please a 1% of population, now that’s just crazy *AF!!! I’d say if theses media companies want to remain relevant they should steer clear of inserting these bizarre DEI storylines and gender swaps into established fan fictions. Only in recent decades do we even see an increase of people of color, African Americans, Native Americans, Latinos and Asians on TV and movies (where is the inclusivity there) and they equal way more than 1% of the population. Explain that one.

Having inclusion just for the sake of it is becomming a sterotype. Its not organic_ so the people become a prop to the message and the costume and the shallow physical sex. As an author I've done series books and we understand our craft is filled with nuances and subtle emotional arcs. In historicals you can relay so much with intimacy _you can do a lot of passion in the physical that reveals subtle things__particularly with rakehells that makes them them best kind of reformed lovers for the lady. Costume dramas with forced drama and sound bites just doesnt work in the romance genre _ movies, books, shows, reveals if the writers liked the source material and understand the audience. You dont avoid any type of arc and theres a 100 LGBTQ representatives in the romance genre _along with any kink or whatever_ so obviously it has an inclusions+ audience. The problem with forced and not organic to the source _ is that it becomes the one dimension prop/ over shadowing the complexity of the org story. The complexities of the genre mean that maybe 10 out 10,000 writers know how to write a large cast into the thread and stay in the main povs. It also means they can avoid the people becoming props for the agenda or the clothing _ because it is too easy to lose the whole story and control. It happens in fantasy genres and in a lot of adaptations and remakes. It's lazy writing and confuses the point in pay off for the viewer or reader__ with a bait and switch or bad kind of twist that is more like got ya. Happens with video games, happens in all formats now _ and wrecked the alpha super hero franchise as well as the game industry _ not to mention game adaptation. What they call brave and artistic doesnt take skill or craft_ it's just a deconstructed source materal that turns a story into something less. So.. its actually not homophobic to prefer the hetro couple already beloved to play out the arc and the emotional and physical growth that slow burn and depth of passion that the reader expected. Phobia is a fear. This is about preferaces and individual choice in what we like in the genre. It's about preference in what one reads, watches, or likes to spend their time being entertained by... Its about an expectation from the source material. And critiques are not a threat to solid story. Opinions are not a threat or insult. They are simply the unique experience of the viewer. I have gay family who manage to get along and exist in a big varied family without being hyper sensitive or defensive about everything. We manage to watch a lot and read a lot of the same stuff just to enjoy good story telling or dramatic and emotional stories_ without the sex or gender being in spotlight. Because at the end of the day, a drama or romance only works when the writer can understand the character in the setting and the conflicts. I read the books eons ago. I would probably say more about the too much internal dialogue than have a fav. Because a good story is a good story. Things that become organic in drama are often sacrificed since the advent of chic lit and short attention spans and being desensitized to explicit vs slow burn build ups. The eras that lend themseves to romance have become about costumes and politics. The nuances of writing masculine sensitivity have given way to beige and bland. So we have what we have. The day we can't talk about and discuss our likes and dislikes is the day that no one is going to be your audence and care at all. Good writers can handle criticizing of the product_ people buy the subscription _ rent the movies and pay for books. So it's targeting an audience _ not trying to teach, lecture or force things for the sake of inclusion rather than unfold something about the people who have more depth than who they bed. Its an art that has traded craft for agendas that weary the reader or viewer with something other than story to lose yourself in. Those familar with the genre and era recognized it was a costume drama that loosely holds to the title _ for the reason the books had the title as a series. It's never personal when someone dislikes or likes it. It's a public product for consumers who can have expectations for their $ and the advertised as. It's fairly simple. Its why books have 50 tags in the buy line to reveal what the author includes. Its why consumers have the freedom to purchase, or return or just give up on a franchise. There's no hindrance in the genre for books and movies that have varied sex encounters and tastes_ there's something for every taste avail. So if a person loves bridgerton for the hetro characters _ because that's what kind of passion and such they relate to _and what they like to read, or watch, thats not some hidden code of being micro aggressive_ hating or phobia. It's simply our human emotional dopimine fix. Like we all cried for gay character in downtown Abbey and hated Mary the hetro on the principal she sent men mixed messages _ shrug. A dopamine fix is why we are drawn to drama and romance. Its not political or personal. There's a rational way to discuss and debate based soley on the product and our expectations and responses__ it's about what the writer sold and if they value the craft and reader___ or its a generic check all boxes thing that tries and fails to hold the audience and deliver something deeper than one deminital characters and sceneros in place of cohesive stories. We all love good stories obviously, so we are more agreed on that, rather than divided on the inclusions __ done well and organic, it wouldn't matter. Today however, adaptations and remakes seem to be all sterotypes and surface and really bad at understanding the genre __ when you deconstruct a popular story just for the sake of something outside the story and characters.....youre not serving any group or repesentation of human experience. You're just drowning the whole thing in gravy and losing the audience who has the freedom to order something better to their taste the next time. Nothing personal. We just value money, time, and depth_ craft over messages. Anyone mature enough to read and watch bridgeron understands the series rolls into the cousins books and so has a carry over of certain ton influencers. The cartoon handling of the costumed queen and the sound bites of various 2nd cast has shown us_ this is a show series that has overwhelmed itself already and lost the deeper threads of setting and era. It's not the seamless and deeper story. People who like what it is, will like it. And that's okay too. Be well.

This is the first time I haven't immediately re-watched the entire season. There wasn't enough Polin and too many other side stories were just confusing. The queen's obsession with Whistledown was ridiculous, although Pen's confession in the final episode was fantastic. The entertainment industry's insistence on making almost every other character gay is wearing thin. In the Bridgerton family of 8 children, we now have at least two (I'm guessing Eloise will also be gay) gay characters . According to Wikipedia, as a percentage of all US adults, 3.1% identify as bisexual, 1.4% as gay, 0.7% as lesbian, and 0.6% as transgender. I welcome diversity in entertainment, but at what point does become patronizing and lead to overkill?

That Michaela twist was straight up trash! People thought S3 was bumpy, there are going to be some annoying hoops jumped through in the next season.

As a queer woman who doesn't know the books I'm actually really excited for what's to come in the next seasons! Bridgerton has lots of straight couples, so it would be really nice to see a least one same sex couple. I totally get why people who read the books are disappointed though. I would be, too. Nobody wants the plot of a book they love changed. I hope the next season turns out good.

My theory is that there will be a time jump after the Masquerade Ball for Benedict. It would make sense for him to look for Sophie for 1-2 years. Kinda hoping that Eloise is next while that plays out.

I 'm not thrilled with Franesca or Benedics storyline in season 3. Benidict was turned into a man whore. The direction or the inclusion that is being forced down some of the fans throats is wrong. I enjoy Polins story, what little there was. Can't watch this serise, which make me sad. These books are ruined for me... Maybe think of finding a new writer. 😢

They literally reference the masquerade ball at the end lol so they will obviously be INTRODUCING Benedict's love interest in season 4 but I doubt very much it will be HIS season. Much more likely that it'll be Eloise's season (Lord Dibling was honestly a perfect match for her so I think he was a way to test the audience's feelings towards a leading man being a naturalist. Let me tell you, I genuinely sad that actor was in a bigger role because he was delightful!) with Francesca and Benedict having further narrative development.

The entire world is not LGBTQ. I respect their movement, but I like movies/shows that stay true to the source. I'm less inclined to want to watch Benedict as bi and Franscesca as gay. Let the LGBTQ community write their own romance series.

I have been a Julia Quinn and Bridgerton fan for years and have re-read the books many times. There have been many changes that have been exceptable....then tolerable... but with this new, "twist" this show has jumped the shark! While I am all for inclusive characters, gender swapping one of my favorite books of the series is the last straw for me! I am so done with this! You want queer characters , create them within the story, but dont insult the long-time book fans by destroying our beloved main characters! I have no respect for any series that will throw away its long standing or, in this case, original fan base to check the "woke" box! Bridgerton is going down the Disney and Dr. Who road to bad ratings, fan hate and loss of money! Well done!

Everyone is mad about who’s gay and whatnot, I’m actually only upset they all pair off! I’d love to see Eloise be an independent woman on her own, running a business like she admires the seamstress for being able to do!

I kind of hope that Cresada marries Lord Burly (I know im spelling it wrong) and she comes back. I actually really like her character and it's nice to have a bad guy type of person. It would be nice to have her back and be able to stick it to her parents. She would have freedom, money, and the ability to come back and do something to get her good name back and get in everybody's good graces. I hope they consider it!

I have no problem with exploration but I feel like Benedict was so out of character this season. If he’d been caught in a threesome, there would be no coming back from that for the entire Bridgerton family. I don’t think he would risk it, due to the conventions of the time period and society. Also I’m here for the romance, and I saw none of that in Benedict’s story. I’m open to the Michaela gender swap but only if it’s done well, not just here you go, have a gay character. (I haven’t read the books)

I don’t think the next season will be Francesca. I think it will be Benedict because he is the most anticipated season. I think that if Jess is smart, she will do Benedict’s season next. Nobody wants to see him hooking up with multiple people. They want to see him with Sophie.

I’m just saying,, Polin’s story was my favorite and so I watched S3 without watching S1 and S2,, I probably won’t be watching S4 either if they keep up with Fran and Michaela and not Michael. I still do believe it would be Benedict’s story next season cuz Benedict hinted it when he was with Eloise in the swing.. he said his next lesson learned would be of something that would change his life entirely.

We're all so used to the race swapping of characters at this point. No one bats an eyelid but, MICHAEL 😢 gender swapping compleatley changes the plot of Francescas book. It is my fav book and I WAS so exited to meet Michael. I'm sorry for your loss Michael. 😭

Remember Eloise forecasts the masquerade ball. This hints at Benedict being the season 4. Also, I don’t like the Michaela thing. I don’t like sex scenes anyway. I thought they did Collin and Len’s tastefully. Also, in the books Francesca wants a child John cannot give her.

Anyone else notice the convo between violet and Fran before her wedding violet said when she met her father she could barely say her name? When John introduces Michaela and she asks Fran her name she also pauses a bit before telling her as she’s nervous. Thought that was a cool little detail. I do wish they stayed with Michael tho as their book was such a good story🥲

To be fair I like the books but I also decided to watch the show without thinking of the changes of things. Because I do like the show even tho it isn't accurate, it just feels to me like watching a remake of the book, but i'm still happy they kept the polin and kanthony couples. 😅

Since the Francesca story happens away from the normal location of the Bridgerton series, I'd love it if they made that into a spin-off series like they did for the Queen. The story is too packed for one series so a spin-off would allow more time with a featured couple. On a side note I'm looking forward to the lesbian story arch , but I'd also love a gay story arch for one of the brothers Benedict's simple exploration.

Saw that telegraphed when John kissed Francesca at the wedding and her reaction was "Meh." I've not read the books, so I have no attachment there. It does seem a curious choice to have Francesca, of any of the Bridgerton progeny, to be gay or bisexual. I think that does a real disservice to the John/Francesca's simpatico. Any idea if this came from the new showrunner or Shonda Rhimes?

I am so looking forward to Benedict’s season but I do hope it’s not a repeat of Antony & Kate story! I wish we could see something of a departure. Too much inclusion too predictable too boring

So many useless and unnecessary changes. I'm not a fan. Stick to the original books. That's what most people want to see. It's very disappointing when you wait for 2 years and get this woke nonsense.

I have not read the books. However, I enjoyed seasons 1 and 2 of Bridgerton. Season 3 was a bit disappointing. There were too many extra storylines that could have stayed on the “sideline”. Season 3 should have only been about “ Colin & Penelope.” Then, I realize and understood the reason for part 2 of season 3 coming out on “June” 13. I’m so tired of people conforming to the ways of “This world”. Whatever happened to Benedict’s interest in the arts?

I am rather disappointed in the changes from the books. Where does it add to what we read?

I almost threw up in my mouth with that Benedict scene definitelyhad to fastforward I felt violated by visual force. Now to know they will be ruining another character who's story I was looking forward to is a total let down. 😢 I will just reread the series

This is why it is so hard to love a book then watch a movie. The book was good enough to capture the reader and Sell the Book. Now however, we must try to cater to a different audience. I was so so excited to see this part 2. Part 1 was so good. The characters were growing and now after part 2. I don’t even know these characters. Please for the love of the book turn back to the original storyline. If you want to please another audience. Write a series for That Audience. Just quit killing the characters for those of us who loved the book

The gender swap was shocking and exciting at the same time for me. While Francesca being bi sexual is exciting I was really looking forward to see Michael. He is the most charming or wicked in Francesca language. I will miss that he would never bring flowers to violet. It is one of the favourite scene of mine.

I really enjoyed part two and feel that splitting the season was a mistake! All together it was great! Although a little too well wrapped up for a S4. From the comments I have read a lot of people are unhappy with the gay storylines that are emerging and the shift away from the books in order to do so. Some people are being labelled homophobic for expressing their views on this topic. For me, I feel it is more that when I watch this show I love to be sucked into the storyline and project myself onto the characters, so as a straight woman I like to watch straight couples as I can relate more. It does not mean I am not moved by gay storylines, it just means I can absorb myself more when I can imagine it is me. Same with Benedict, I imagine that if you are attracted to his character, then you like the illusion that in your fantasy you have a chance with him. This shatters that illusion if he would rather be with a man, than you. So I don't think all the comments that sound homophobic are always intended that way (although admittedly some are). That is just my experience as an audience member, and how I experience the show.

Why are there so many people hating on Benedict being bi? Bi means liking 2 or more genders. He can still like Sophie. And what is so wrong about Francesca being part of the lgbt community, too? It did feel a bit forced, but i want to see how they make it. And for those people saying um actually it isn't canon, so it's shit. Fuck you. If you want canon, go read your books. And are you even giving this a chance to be its own thing, or are you just comparing it to the books and expecting it to be word for word. HA. What a joke. Isn't the whole point of movie adaptation to show things a bit differently? To make things in their own way? What would be the point of movie adaptation of its word for word the same as the books? You have imagination. You can use that. But i am repeating myself at this point. If you have read this far, thanks for checking my opinion, and also, this is a message to all the haters.
