I've lived here my whole life. Love this city, and the topography, but you missed the best ones..... entering the city, from the airport, through the Fort Pitt tunnel and bridge. Spectacular! That shot has been used in numerous movies and videos n'at.
i really miss living there,it is a really incredible city,i hated having to leave, the fun of getting around was beyond measure and theres always something to go and do no matter what time of the year it is
Fort Pitt, and Squirrel Hill and liberty are my favorite tunnels! and South tenth street, also Fort pitt, Hot Metal, Birmingham, and Homestead grays are my favorite bridges!
The Smithfield Street Bridge (my favorite) was designed by the gentleman who designed the Brooklyn Bridge and the Armstrong Tunnels were used in the TV Mini-series "The Stand". When Larry and Rita (?) come out of the tunnel in the move they are at the Forbes Ave side.
@USHighway101 They're modernizing it as much as they can, given the constraints. The right-of-way for PA 28 is squeezed by a cliff on one side and a railroad on the other, so the upgraded highway will only have emergency pull-off areas instead of full shoulders, and the way the ends of the intersecting bridges (31st and 40th Streets) are built necessitates on- and off-ramps on the left. As a result, it will be a limited-access highway with a relatively low speed limit of either 45 or 50 MPH.
I think Pittsburgh is a great city, never lived there but I always enjoy visiting, it is extremely interesting from an architectural standpoint and the view from Mt. Washington can't be beat. Good luck!
Nice ride thanks! Love these ride along vids. Wish we had more bridges and tunnels in TX. Oh well at least we got the BIG stacks and all. Good views of city skyline also. BTW got to your channel from screwedupclickv2. Two of my fav channels :)
@USHighway101 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I'm not 100% sure on PA-28 but from what I understand they are trying to modernize and connect the freeway sections.
All the bridges and tunnels makes me think of cities like Bergen, Norway. haha. It too has bridges and tunnels in just about every direction you can think of.
Love the videos. Brings back a lot of memories. I am a WVU grad (Oh No) and drove the hour and half up and down I-79 many times. I love the city, but not Univ of Pitt.
Man, there wasn't a boring second at all in this video, this was SUPERB! I don't recall driving any of the bridges or tunnels that you showcased in the first half of this video. Question. Are they modernizing PA 28 at this time?
actually I compared the triangle of DT Pittsburgh with DT Lower Manhattan and they're about the same exact size. The part of lower Manhattan where all the skyscrapers are.
@MrZulu2065 Thank you! I believe the building you are referring to is Fifth Avenue Place. Too bad, I'm a Mac user and SC4 on the Mac does not work with the new OS X Lion :(
Since PA 28 is a state highway and not an Interstate highway, it does not have to fully conform with modern Interstate standards. In spite of that, the upgraded segment of highway is bound to be a dramatic improvement over the obsolete and dangerous segment that it replaces.
@MrSuperRileymoore Best bridge is a matter opinion, for me it's the Westinghouse Bridge, the longest is the McKees Rocks bridge. I like the Fort Pitt tunnel the best, the Liberty Tunnel is the longest.
Go to PNC Park.... you'll spend more time admiring the view, than watching the game. That's okay, because the way the Pirates are playing, you won't miss anything!
