Lerner and Loewe musicals were my religious upbringing. Brigadoon, Carousel, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, West Side Story, i have known the lyrics to all of them for sixty years. Gives me chills, literally to hear the score. And I keep bursting into tears . . . and Sally Anne Howe - what a glorious voice. Thanks so much for this.
I was raised the same Helen. Even with the horrible picture quality and soundtrack this version is so sweet. I'm glad you enjoyed it too. And I understand the 'bursting into tears' - I miss my Mother when watching this. She's have loved it so much.

I saw this on BBC in the early 70's and the most important thing is the audio quality is still better than most 21st century TV audio. In fact it looks and sounds pretty good on a smartphone. Thanks for the memory.
I agree. I'm listening to it on an iPhone and it's very clearly delineated sound. Sally Howe would probably sound fantastic on a Thomas Edison wire recorder.
This is a treasure, a version unknown to and unseen by the general public. It's the TV production and they did a very fine job. Robert Goulet and Sally Anne Howes are terrific--what magnificent voices. And Peter Falk, perfect for the cynical sidekick--who would have guessed?

Been a huge fan of classic B'way musicals since I was a young kid. I remember reading about this TV production in the '70's and have wanted to see it ever since. Now, thanks to you I finally have.
This was her signature role, she starred in the 1963 Broadway production of Brigadoon and was nominated for best performance in a musical, lost to her close friend Vivien Leigh in another musical. Sally Ann Howes sang this role in a special White House performance for President Kennedy.
Thank you so very much for posting this. I also watched it in 1966, and got the album for $1.00. Shortly after seeing this version, the Gene Kelly / Van Johnson movie version was on TV too, but I liked this one a little better. I'm so happy to have seen it sgain.
I'LL WATCH IT!! I remember the first time it aired on ABC! Then my folks bought our first stereo - a Zenith - and several 33 1/3 LP stereo records came with it, including a compendium of songs from THIS production!! THANKS FOR POSTING IT!!

I have always loved the 1954 version with Gene Kelly, and was totally surprised to find this version. I never knew it existed. This version is fine and has good characteristics of its own.

I was very surprised to see how good Robert Goulet was on stage & I saw some clips on a dvd of Best Stage Performances & I LOVED HIS! I LOVE Sally Ann Howes’ voice & acting, as well! LOVED her in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! She was perfect! I’d love to have the dvd of this one! ♥️😊✨. Plus...peter Falk is a favorite!

Robert Goulet had performed “Tommy” in Ohio’s summer stock theatre (1958-1960) … prior to being cast in Camelot on Broadway. Goulet (b: 1933) was 33 years old doing this abc-TV 1966 Armstrong Circle Theatre musical special; Sally Anne HOWES (b: 1930) was 36 years old; Peter Falk was 40. Goulet had formed his own production company associated with his biz partner, Ex Prod. Robert Rosemont. Their ROGO was the company’s name… Rosemont - who had been Lerner’s & Lowe’s production manager and stage manager since My Fair Lady (1956) Camelot (1960).
Brigadoon was my late mothers favorite movie and this version will always bring back wonderful memories of watching the movie on TV together with my Mum and Dad in our lounge room when I was a child. Oh, I remember this well. (Yes, I'm that old.) Armstrong put these abridged musicals on TV. Robert Goulet did this and "Carousel". Then the soundtracks would be for sale (for a very limited time) at your local Armstrong store. Thank you so much for making this available to watch again!

@@debbiefesler1537 You know, they wanted Julie Andrews for the role of Truly but Sally Anne was the better choice. The first time I saw it (when it was first released I was in the 5th Grade) I was instantly smitten by her. Her music box sequence was killer.
@@user-il5oq5df6l When I was a kid, my mom had the LP soundtrack to the Hallmark-TV version of Brigadoon. It’s hard to find a high-rez copy. Mine is old NTSC. The singers in the Hallmark version are better than the original. Gene Kelly is a great dancer but a bit of a weak singer. However, the frenetic pace of the nightclub sequence, following his and Van Johnson’s return from Scotland, is a slice of a bygone time in America. Back when Benzedrine was available OTC.
Goulet's widow owns the rights and master tapes of BRIGADOON, CAROUSEL, and KISS ME KATE, which were produced by Goulet's production company at the time.
The picture quality only enhances brigadoon mist to Scottish legend. Peter Falk here in a musical surprised me, however, it piqued my interest thus I tapped to play, and violà. Loved it!! Whoever criticized this for not having enough emotion? You forget the year it was made and everything else about the times! It was full of emotion, Robert Goulet was wonderful, the singing superb. Loved it even though it was edited.
Of the two videos of the entire show, this one is the better copy. Other copy lacks sound entirely in about four places, and you miss all of some of the best songs. This Copy is full and fine through out. [That is with the understanding that it is played from a copy from 1966 television.] I found the sound to be very good quality, especially considering the beautiful songs that are being sung. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this again. When I saw it in 1966 it was on a glorious B&W TV 😂. Loved it anyway!!

Opening remote video color cameras-video taped - at the Malibu Paramount ranch. The entire musical sets built in a CBS Fairfax/Beverly Blvd center. Goulet performed the lead during the summer of 1959 - auditioning for Lerner & Loewe - being cast for the Camelot musical - 1960-!
Like this one better than the movie because it's essentially a stage production and kept more of the songs and original dances. Glad to see it again--thanks! P.S. Robert Goulet sang a lot better than Gene Kelly.
No one is better than Gene Kelly as an actor, dancer..Goulet is a just a good singer...and Cyd Charisse was unmatched. Love Peter Falk, but he isn't the original, Van Johnson!
Agree...love Robert Goulet, but he is no dancer like Gene! But Falk is no Jeff, not when compared to Van Johnson. And while Sally Ann Howes voice is lovely, she is no Cyd Charrise!!! The movie version is my favorite but this version is lovely!!! ❤
Thank you for posting this. I so wish it was clearer. I am pretty tolerant of bad video but this is pretty bad. This is probably the best cast ( except the 1980 Bway) Edward Villela - perfection!
Thank you for this film, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Oddly I came here from listening to The Waterboys song "Whole of the moon" where they sing " I saw the rain dirty valley, you saw Brigadoon", it's only taken me 40 ish years to find out what Brigadoon was!!
We watched this program when it aired in 1966 and I loved it very much. I wished many times I could see it again. This was wonderful. Thanks so much for posting it. I enjoyed watching every minute of it. How were you able to record it? I would love to know.
I saw it in 1966 in the first broadcast, with my parents, I was 15. This is by far the best production ever. Sally Ann Howe was nominated for the Tony for her performance of this role in a 1963 revival, as I recall.
Brigadoon had a Broadway revival in 1963 - starring Sally Ann HOWES- and Edward Villanova (NY City Ballet soloist) - his dancing sequences & chase number - were recreations from the Tony 1963 Award Broadway Revival.

Well I never thought of myself as a patron of the Arts but if someone were to bring Brigadoon back to Broadway that I would pay to see and be willing to stay in New York City overnight add finance a new version if I could but I can't

I saw this rendition of an incredible good movie many yrs ago; that was WAY better than the recording in 1954. Sadly, to my research there is NO way today; to get an original copy of this movie 1966 recording; that isn't degraded terribly "OUT of focus". Thus, this video is a typical "recording tape-to-tape-tape on VCR's"; Which EACH recording, degrades the fidelity. IE: Now, the studio fidelity was 480I. Which was the best one could have; UNTIL HDTV came out; which is now 1080P fidelity. ("I" stands for Interlace. And "P" stands for Progressive Scans) And fast becoming is "4K Fidelity". Which allows VERY large TV's without seeing; the scanning lines, up close. And having been an RCA TV technician for 45 yrs; I can't stand these bad recordings. When it could have been done right: if people would NOT have done what the did "recording to tape to tape, Etc". Because they didn't care how "out of focus" it would become. Sad, but Oh so True. I said all of this to say: "IF any one knows how I could buy an original 480I Fidelity video recording of this 1954 Recording; I would be pleased to purchase it; IF it wasn't too costly. Thanks to any one that can do that. I am willing to pay up to $50.00 dollars; Plus Tax and Shipping for it. Let me know. pat dee
Today was my 1st view of this. I've only seen Gene Kelly's. I don't like the score. Nothing memorable to hum later. Robert Goulet was all round fantastic. Thumbs down to the 60s hair styles worn by the villagers.
