I have searching for almost a year trying to find a picture or diagram of how these linkages should be setup. Thank you so very much!! You just saved me the money of going out and buying a new rototiller for the garden!!
Thank you!! We’ve had our edger for at least 15 years, and I didn’t pay enough attention to the springs and where they went. After looking at a ton of incorrect diagrams and videos, I finally came across yours with the exact same setup. The small spring that was missing in your video was incorrectly connected on ours, and your video helped us get it sorted. Thanks again!!!
This video just saved me! Someone handed me a disassembled 091202 in a box, and several of the linkages were missing. I'd still be scatching my head if you hadn't posted such a detailed descriptions with the parts numbers of the linkage to the wind vain governor. Thanks a million.
Your video is my go to reference whenever I take apart my Briggs & Stratton carb. Thank you for taking the time to put out this excellent video. You da man!
Thank you your video saved me too even though my engine isn’t exactly the same as yours. It was enough information to get the tiny spring in the right spot. Mine has a very thin, aluminum air vane and the tab where the wire goes through was bent 90° from the way it should be. With your video I was able to get the spring in the right spot and bend that tab back. I would’ve been completely screwed without your video. Thank you so much.
Brilliant it helped me out big time, I’d just bought a tiller with a briggs and Stratton 3.5hp engine on it and it looked and worked great. But on the way home it took a tumble in my truck when a stupid deer decided to cross the road to stare at my headlights, so thanks for your time and effort in making this video for people like me.
excellent video has helped me a lot I bought a small tiller machine and they told me that I just needed to clean the carburetor and after finishing I noticed that something was wrong and this video helped me solve it
Great video. Recently brought a mower with this engine, had a loss of power. Noticed the governor spring is setup incorrect, wrong way around and using the wrong hole. Cheers.
I have a 94202 3.75hp on a tiller. Not sure if it's the same part number but now I can at least see how it's supposed to hook together. Someone had the small spring going directly to the throttle butterfly. My governor is a bit different also. It's a small plastic tab with a hole in it under the cover. 👍
Thank you, my 3.5 is similar to this, it just has the choke on the control. . This will help get me with re assembling the linkage. for the governor. Knew I was missing something simple.
Thanks! I have one almost exactly like it. It is very helpful in reassembly to have your video. I was just at the point of cleaning the carb and replacing the fuel pump.
Thanks man... got a lot of photos and then somehow deleted them and was screwed!!!!! Been all over the net looking at diagrams and it's like a secret sauce recipe to get this figured out.
Just what I needed to confirm my setup after the carb rebuild. I had taken pictures of the linkages with my phone, but the phone was stolen before the rebuild was done!
Informative video, thanks. I have same engine on my lawn edger. It runs and starts great, shuts off etc. My issue is the throttle speed lever. As engine vibrates the lever moves from high to middle. I have to continuously push it up to complete lawn edge. I took it apart, and saw only 1 spring and assumed i was missing one. Your video shows only one also so i guess mine is correct. Any ideas on tightening that or to get lever to stay high? Its not a bolt, sort of a rivet. Nothing to tighten Thanks
Recently I brought nearly the same engine (091212) for restoration with non-standard one end detached spring. Now I know what and how to install properly. Greetings from Russia!
Thank you sir for the informative video instructions. I ordered the correct springs today from amazon. How do I connect the throttle lever cable to carburetor assembly?. I missing something. I have the engine set up as in the video.
Throttle cable connections vary with the type of machine the engines are mounted on. Sorry but I don't have that engine any longer and I can't really describe it. Thanks for watching.
@@RealManSkills Thank you for your quick reply. I have a question about the brass carburetor adjustment screw located below the choke linkage. The one on my carburetor is very loose and turns with the vibration of the engine. I have been using tape for the time being to keep it from moving. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem? Thanks!
@@RealManSkills Thanks for your reply. I was thinking along the same lines but I just need to make sure the loc-tite doesn't get in too deep and clog up the system.
Thanks a lot for the video...I did not take a "before" photo of the linkage and had mine all screwed up. Briggs website was not helpful and you saved the day..
Great! It's really really helpful sometimes. I know one of your other linkages helped me before, and this one was great to see as well. I have a 5hp version that I haven't gotten around to playing with yet, but really had no idea on it's linkage set-up. :)
Nice video, clearly shows linkage parts except the actual throttle cable connection which is my issue. I can clearly see the throttle cable connection and function however, I think it's slipping making my mower power inefficient. I can't quite tell if the very tip of the cable broke or if the 'z' bend is not sufficient or if the plastic piece where the cable is inserted has word too much. Seems the cable, at maximum power slides through the connection versus moving connection to full open. Any thoughts or can you show the throttle cable connection? Thanks!
I have been searching around for an answer to your question. However, that spring seems to be discontinued. Might have to find a suitable replacement from the hardware store. Thanks for watching.
Thank u sir.... I replaced the carb on mine an once I turn it on it stays running on super high RPMs, can't get it to run smoothly so I turn it off....I hope I just have a missing governor spring.
OMG I was looking for this exact diagram. I was using a troy bilt tiller, with a Briggs & Stratton 094212-0205-E1. I took the spring out to replace gaskets and had no idea how to put it back together. Take photos people! Thank you!
Thanks for the help. This is my first time commenting on video. (Sorry if this method is wrong.) While working on my simular engine the air vane tab broke. Cannot seam to find my style air vane. The one on my engine is metal (old) your video show pastic (newer concept). Could you please provide me with air vane part number or direction to find it myself. Stay safe and have a blessed day, de
hello, i have three 3,5 hp briggs (1 on a rototiller and 2 x scarifier) but i dont have this piece 01:53 , looks like theres no link air vane , is it normal ? i dont have the big plastic part that is moving
For some reason my stop run lever keeps returning to the stop position while the engine is running. I have everything hooked up as the video. Can someone please advise me accordingly.
On our McClane edger there's a throttle cable hooked to one of the holes in that throttle lever and the throttle is controlled up by the hand grips. It keeps the throttle in the same position until you change it. Just get a universal throttle control lever with cable and go that route or there might be a way to tighten the small factory throttle lever down by the engine but I'm not sure how you would go about it.
I have that same engine on a Craftsman lawn striper reel mower. It has always ran rich since new.Can you tell me if the brass jet screw is supposed to be seated or turned out to adjust, thanks
Hello Thanks a lot for the video. I need to change the gaskets and the diaphragm of my concrete machine which have a Briggs&Stratton 3,5 Hp Horizontal Linkage modele:91232 Type:1363 E1 Code:980513FA.Do you know the numbers for the gaskets diaphragm kit
This video was about showing the linkage. I am sure that I got it running and back to the owner working just fine. This was five years ago, I can't say that I remember much about what else I had to do to tune the carb. Thanks for watching.
I have a similar engine 91202 0016 01 95031703 and linkages are slightly different. Any diagram you know of to make sure it's all hooked up correctly? Thanks
They can be difficult sometimes. Sometimes there is a set screw on the pump that presses on the shaft. You will need to remove the set screw. Other times, it's just rusted on. Here is a video to a pressure washer pump that I had to remove - there is a set screw on this unit - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hDB7JiG855Q.html
Hello, I have a question, i'm working on a McLane edger 3.5hp. I'm trying to remove the carburetor from fuel tank. I see a locating pin that keeps the carburetor from turning to remove, i'm assuming its a manufacturing thing. how do I go about removing this pin? I see videos where the carburetor is just lifted out, not on mine. thanks for your time and have a great safe day. Richard
Thanks so much for all the help! Do you by chance know the number for the other spring on the anchor? I damaged it and was hoping you may know since I can't find the number diagram. Thanks
I know this video is old but I got two questions, I got one of these engines from my cousin and he was not sure what it went to, what do they go to and the other weekend I got one fully rebuilt for $30 would one be any good for a go kart/ bumper kart? (In terms of slow/good on gas?)
I got one of this from a friend I went with him to the lawnmower shop to get the carburetor uncloged but when we got it back because he was charging 350 dollars for the repair thee carburetor was completely taken apart and lots of parts were missing do you know any alternative carburetors
i have an engine just like this one. it only goes one speed but i would like to modify it so that i would be able to adjust the throttle like on older models. Do you think thats possible?
There may be other throttle controls available. Different machines (rototillers, mowers etc..) have different throttle controls but use the same engine. Can't say for sure but I bet you could find a different control to put on your engine.
i have an older 3.5 briggs on my other edger that has the throttle control below the choke. on that one you can control the throttle. its a very similar setup. i may just need a few extra parts to do it on my other edger. Thanks for your response.
There is a bolt under the tank that needs to be removed. Also, the two bolts holding the carburetor to the engine need to be removed. Since the carb is mounted to the tank, they usually come off together. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
I know this is an old video but what did this go on? I just purchased a McLane edger with this motor on it and it is not starting. I have to assume the throttle lever engages the speed lever down at the controls.
This came off of a McLane edger. I updated the edger with a 5HP Briggs. (same style) When I updated with the 5HP, I didn't connect the cables. I just used the throttle controls on the engine.
So I finally had time to work on this edger 101-3.5RP-7 to be exact. The model # on this Brigg is 91202 1231 E1. I have to assume the last part of the number is from the "type" stamped on the plate. Just researching the web leads me to that. Hope I am right lol. Anyways, I believe I need to replace the whole carb on mine. I tried cleaning it but it's in bad shape and I'd rather just replace the whole piece. Problem is, I can't find any parts for this with the model number I have. Can you give me some direction to help me find a new crab?
There is no "entire" kit for this engine. You will have to buy the parts individually. I include the parts numbers in the video. You can also do an internet search for the engine model number (also in the video) and you will find a lot of results for parts.
@@RealManSkills man my engine has the exact same sset up. Except not entirely. I would lile this set up. But mine was hand operated where your choke and throttle are and down below it had another setup. Long story short. Mine is diff but exactly the same. I want the set up on this with the throt&choke switches being able to have the line directly in them thete instead pf below the feul tank. I appreciate the input and thank u man. I figured but i had to ask. I work onbigger engines. Take care
Hello was wondering if there's anyway to removing that type of governor , have that same engine was just trying to find out how to set up a throttle for a minibike/gokart
