If Matt O'Riley is earning somewhere in the region of £20,000 a week and could possibly triple his salary and also play and test himself in the English premiership, which is probably the best league in the world, then of course he will grab that opportunity. Hopefully the money will be invested in new players.
The board's inaction on transfers will have Brendan going in the huff again, the same way he left previously. They acknowledged January was a disappointment, yet we're in the exact same position again. The essentials are a left back, an upgrade on Scales and 2 midfielders if MOR goes. Possibly a winger and another forward. Does anyone think the board will actually back the manager with what he needs?

Why did it take far too long to sign Idha?? He was a norwich player,norwich didnt want to sell and put a valuation of £14m on him..BR wanted him and club negotiated. Absolutely spot on! The truth is that there is an ill-disguised socio-political agenda against 'rich men in suits' amongst a section of our fan base. I have read people at the highest level at our club described as 'rats' and the biggest clue of all 'Tories'. 🙄. Of course the Board should be open to rightful criticism but silly and vile abuse is another matter altogether and fans of other clubs look on in disbelief as our club, considered by outsiders as the best run football club in the UK, has to put up with such attacks from some of those who profess to be its supporters.

As always, love the show, and especially when there's praise for Daizen. His flaws are rare to see on a footballer, which is why they feel more exposed at times, but his best aspects are top notch. He's a poacher with the engine of a wingback, and all the tenacity of a defensive midfielder. He consistently scores scuffy goals that Kyogo would finish more clinically but who cares how they go in. When a player doesn't press as much as they should, or takes a shot when they shouldn't, or makes a successful pass to a team mate which immediately puts them under pressure, we don't think "they are not good enough", we dont think about it at all most of the time. A club like Celtic can sell players like MOR and still "have a crack at UCL". What's showing how DEEPLY unserious we are about that however is that we havent reinforced where we badly need it (LB, CB too but then we need to ship one of them) regardless if MOR stays or not. Dont see Rodgers sticking around if we have yet another transfer window where hes been asking for Quality and gets fuckall compared to what he had last season (with the exception of Schmeichel). The clubs Celtic aspire to be amongst, Ajax, Benfica etc all manage to do it. They produce talents, act like stepping stones to top leagues and yet have quality good enough to be competitive in Europe. edit: Frimpong went to a top team! For the record, Yalcouyé from Sweden for 8 million was a record transfer for that club and that players is something Allsvenskan wont see again in a long time. Football evolves all the time and there's some extreme examples every decade. At the moment it's more crazy than tactics and Financial fair play/Macro economic sports washing etc My hope is some of these so called big clubs miss buying a few of our top players and Celtic have a team reaching their peak in age /experience/ talent at the same time. If Brighton are a stepping stone…what does that make us? I’d like to see us keep players like Matt and Reo by offering the wages reflective of their talent. Watch what happens in the CL when we scoop up all the money from both the tournament and the income from players without replacing them. Bottom of the pile, coffers full and all forgotten about come Christmas.
Well little Brighton & Hove Albion play their domestic football in the multi - billion EPL & have done so for a few seasons now & we play oor domestic fitba in the woeful & dire SPL that as a consequence, COMPLETELY generates NO serious money of ANY kind & so we quite literally can't compete with them on ANY sustained financial sure footing level because we just can't & even worse, we can't even seriously compete with the possibly even littler Millwall FC in the English Championship & as seen with Daniel Kelly choosing to play his football there from January 2025 & so yes, we have ''coffers full'' at the moment, but sadly they wouldn't remain full for too long if we were ever foolish enough to try & take on the multi - billion EPL.
For Celtic to offer Matt "wages to make him stay " , ticket prices would be over £100 / game , champions league £150+/ game. That's the reality of lot of these clubs. I went to wednesday night game down road from me at Highbury few years ago, bought the "cheapest ticket" it was £90 ( this was good few years ago, be more now) . Champions league probably good bit more. The league you play in will always beat big club from smaller country. It's just fact of life , not lot we can do about it.

Hatate reportedly wants away, and I don’t like to say it, but if Hatate does want away and doesn’t get it, partly due to losing oreilly, I don’t think we’ll get top Hatate this season. It’s not all rosy. There’s huge risk our midfield just evaporates over the next 2 weeks. As for how we can appeal to quality players to stay, no matter what we do, the test of the qualities of a player are limited in this league and anything looks better than playing in the driving rain in Dingwall on a Wednesday night. We can’t get round those.
IMO Matt is worth between 36 and 43 million 30% sell on clause or 20% with full valuation met . We should reject everything and lay it down as a marker till Deadline day . At that point the Board sell him and Hitate . Just saying
The thing for me that I don't think is being addressed. Last season we road our luck with the likes of Jamesy coming into form and Adam Idahs loan spell being successful. We get over the line and you are thinking great, new season, 7/8 signings coming in. That hasn't been the case. Ange would have had 7 players signed in July but BR always seems to leave his business very late. To the point that I guarantee we bring two bodies on loan in the last week of the transfer window. We are lacking quality in a few key areas that tbh with the new champions league format we won't get away with. 60 plus games this season potentially and we have so many positions with just one player really. We need a blitz soon for transfers or I'm worried we are two or three injuries away from an average celtic team playing week in week out.
We were NEVER ever going to have '' 7/8 signings coming in'' simply because we already have one huge, big, bloated First Team squad that is still in URGENT need of culling with 7/8 getting kicked oot the door furr good & until that happens....

So Im looking at the squad thinking if we sign players they boys just drop out the squad and we are back to having two players a position. That's what I was hoping for but it looks like Carter V and Scales is our CB pairing for another full season which is just not ideal. Taylor needs completion. O'Reilly on his way out means we need a replacement. Just so much still needing done for me with very little time left in the window.
I agree, we don’t need to sell Matt, make him an offer he can’t refuse and keep him at the club please.. Maeda after O’Riley is our most player at the moment he has come on massively in the last year. What about the finishing on Sunday, compare that to his first year or so at the club!

He'll be playing against City, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, Villa etc and not Dundee, St Mirren, St Johnstone and Ross County. Only a saddo sets any credibility to the result of a pre season friendly, funny you aren't mentioning that Queens Park stuck three past you.
Learn far less playing SEVCO being snakes that always slither off ladder , I would have played for Celtic for £2500 a week plus bonuses with annual increase and wore the HOOPS with the utmost pride , 69 years I,ve supported CELTIC through good and bad .
