A court has ordered two women to pay €8,000 in damages to French First Lady Brigitte Macron, after they made false claims that she was transgender. Macron filed a libel complaint against two women who posted footage alleging that she'd once been a man named 'Jean-Michel'. FRANCE24's Sharon Gaffney speaks to Flora Bolter, Co-director of the LGBTI+ Observatory at the Fondation Jean Jaures about Brigitte Macron's legal response.

No, but they haven’t denied that was when they met, when she was the advisor for the drama club he joined. Macron’s parents found out that he was pursuing her, and transferred him to another school and asked her not to see him until he was 18. His parents later accepted the relationship, which has been covered in many news articles and didn’t stop him from being elected president. But neither the couple nor Macron’s parents have ever said when their relationship became intimate. Although they met in the 1990s, they didn’t marry until 2007, a few years after she divorced the man she had been married to. The whole trans conspiracy theory is ridiculous, considering that she gave birth to 3 children with her first husband.
