Hmm. Tried as described in my Cuisinart Burr Grinder and although only slightly better...the static is still there. Glad it works for most of you.

WOW! To think that I’ve been grinding beans and dealing with the mess for 5 years and it end today. Even trashed a Capresso Infinity Plus after 3 years and started purchasing beans a Costco and grinding 2 pounds using their grinder. Great “hack”! Thanks!

thank you! I have the same grinder and the same issue. I used to exhale into the removable collector to add moisture (to reduce static), but your approach seems much better since it addresses the stuck grounds in the grinder discharge hole. well done!

Fantastic it works, my feed hopper was half full of whole beans, two or three drops of water on them from a wet paper towel then top up with beans and grind. No static no mess your the man big thumbs up from the UK

I just stumbled across your video. Nice! I've used my large Brim Burr Grinder for about 4-5 years now and it has always done the static thing. My previous Braun Grinder I had for 13 yrs and finally one day just stopped working ALWAYS did the static thing. My only concern is that this method is only good for if you don't actually use the hopper for keeping the coffee in vs just pouring 'enough' coffee in for one serving or pot at a time. Otherwise definitely seems like a nice 'save'.

Agree, this teaspoon of ground powder for each spin is a huge waste of time--I have to have good coffee, but down to one cup a day from all this nonsense--quality is OVER in every brand copied and plastic thrown together in China for Amazon, same deal for irons, remember those? I sew tote bags and checked out all of the big 4 brands, Proctor -Silex/Sunbeam/Black&Decker and more, all identical inside (I sent through Dane thing early 2000s with cordless drills, chop saws and ended up buying my small tools at commercial stores that contractors use, worth it, they never break, wish I could conquer the coffee grinders same way. Btw, I will NEVER toss any kind of appliance that I found again online and ordered again, I will hold onto it until I can find a grandpa to fix it. I was given a corded electric drill about 25 years ago, kept leaving on bench for bigger and better battery models all through the years--it won't break. On a lark, next time one heats up and stops, don't care the type hedge trimmer, elec.drimmel copy...open it up,melted plastic fly wheels. Just saying, our Dad's bought one of each of these in their lifetimes, replacing only saw blades, bits.. now even a box of deck screws or mystery metal alloy hex bolts, can snap off like chalk. There us no way to prepare a vintage carpenter who has helped say replace wood on a roof 60-80 years rafters and see how hard it us to remove those fantastic hand-driven nails, and you have provided him expensive, even Teflon coated screws that snap crumble.

Yes..also no paper waste and much more elegant. Edit: tore a small piece of paper towel off sheet and used it to squeeze 2 or 3 drops of water directly in hopper with beans. Worked 95% better than with spoon....BUT...was stirring spoon in bowl of beans and then adding them to hopper which might have defeated purpose. But this worked so well I’m sticking with it. ☕️

I wonder if oil would work as well as water. Of course, oil and water have different properties and coffee beans already contain oil, but I wonder if it would be worth a try. At least it would avoid the rusting issue one of the commenters experienced.

You are a genius! I have a manual burr grinder from Olde Thompson that has a plastic reservoir at the bottom. The ground coffee would always stick to the bottom of the metal grinder and to the sides of the plastic canister. I had to use a brush to get the grinds off. This time, I squeezed a few drops of water from a wet paper towel over the whole beans and then ground the coffee. There was no coffee sticking to the grinder or the canister. Amazing! Thanks so much!!!

I'll have to test this next time I grind coffee because I just spent several minutes cleaning my kitchen because the grinds flew everywhere. I even tried to cup my hand around the dispenser and they flew against my hand and still got in a mess around the grinder itself. Smh. I can't believe static is the culprit here. Fascinating. I was worried my grinder was somehow clogged or something.

I use grounding equipment - same stuff I use to build computers - it's actually pretty cheap and simple. One touch from the equipment and that's it. You wipe the existing coffee off, and it comes off clean without sticking back on. New grinds will not stick until the charge is regained, which can take months if the humidity is not too low. I ground my aeropress too, works like magic.
@changjunzhang

This is great. My only concern is that when I recently got my Capresso Infinity I was rinsing the grounds off the removable burr. Imagine my surprise when I saw dots of rust forming! It should be stainless steel but given that it's not I switched to using a toothbrush to clean off the grounds into the French press (no water). I'm wondering if your hack will create rust on the removable or fixed burr?
@Frenchpresscoffeelove
@Frenchpresscoffeelove 8 лет назад
+BrianH Thank you for great feedback. I personally don't have this issue since I use this technique for a while. But we test it in New Mexico which is very dry state. Idea is quite simple to add only 2-3 drops of water (no more). Beans will absorb it and while grinding water don't have direct contact with mills.
@ravynx
@ravynx 5 лет назад
Yep, oils from the beans should "season" the burr grinders and prevent the rusting.
@StevenBanks123
@StevenBanks123 Год назад
The burrs are high carbon steel, which is great for durability but susceptible to rust. I suppose the answer is to make sure you dry off the burrs with a paper towel afterwards.

Nice video - BUT... what about those of us who only grind a bit of what's in the grinder? My hopper is air tight so I dump in as much as it holds and it's good for days. But when I grind, it might only grind 1/10th of what's in the hopper. Meaning, any drops of water I add, aren't going to go through the grinder.
@Frenchpresscoffeelove

For small amounts just dump your finger (wash your hands of course) to water and mix the beans with it. It should be enough. Hope this helps.

Cute. Now everybody go try it for yourself and you'll quickly realize how wonderful editing can be. It will eliminate some static cling, but nowhere near what he would have you believe. If you can, replace your plastic grounds container with a suitable glass jar. For some reason the static just doesn't build up in glass like it does in plastic.
@Mikes_Vids
@Mikes_Vids 6 лет назад
TM1Alan my bodum grinder with a glass jar had tons of static. There are a lot of variables that determine how much, if any, static you have while grinding. Type of bean, how it was roasted, humidity in the air, etc. You may need a little more than a few drops. Or you could try a cheap spray bottle with a fine mist setting. I squirt the bottle just over a foot away from the beans I'm going to grind spread out on a tray before putting them in my new ROK manual grinder. The bodum died.
