Is there a way to differentiate between freight and passenger routing? I live near Louisville, KY US which is a major UPS hub at KSDF. When I looked for routes it seemed like I got UPS or freight route suggestions. KSDF does offer passenger flights with Delta, Southwest and other large carriers. I would prefer passenger routing if that is possible. Thanks looks like a great app.
This is what I love from your channel, you always have the new things first. Peronally I have all my add on airports in a spreadsheet with dates from where I have flown to them. Then I pick one I haven't been visiting lately. From here I go to flightradar24 and find a real life flight going to that airport, but here I use a lot of time, finding a route, not too long, not too sort, and with the plane I want to fly - and then create a route in simbrief. I also fly for a virtual airline and chose from those airports 🙂 This new site is perfect. Now I can also chose one with bad weater.
I used to go for challenging airports. But now when I started to run out of them. I just pick an airline for which the livery is available. Then I look for the shortest flight possible, less than an hour. After selecting few routes, I check for which charts are available. Finally, the airports with better fps, I commence operating flights between them. It takes me not hours but couple of days to design my flights.
In the entire process of flying from A to B, where to fly is the hardest decision to take indeed! 😂 It's surely going to be a great time saver, I saw some other app long time back, but seemed bit too complex to use, this is straight and simple. Great one!
I try to either chase Vatsim events or pick IRL routes I find interesting depending on time of year. Mixing in an “around the world” tour trying to hit every country using Volanta to track. About 50% done after 1 year.
This sounds very interesting. I like to fly around the US in the Fenix a320, but need to limit flights to 2 or 2 1/2 hours, so this will really help. Thank you for the video!!
I fly "careers". My last one was Brussels Airlines, so I was based in EBBR and flew (return flights) in alphabetical orders to all SN destinations for which I have detailed airports. Now I am flying for Finnair, so am based in EFHK. In a few month's time it will be Italy. I use Fenix A320 and now (particularly with Finnair for domestic routes), also the ATR 72. I concentrate on those two models (and will add the A330 when Aerosoft publishes it).
I am a (was a?) touring musician and I tend to 'replicate' flights I have traveled to go on tour or gigs. I'm very casual and I'm not replicating the plane or whatever, I just fly from A to B, but to me it's quite satisfying and gives me good memories. I often look back at pictures taken when doing said tour or gig, and I'm enjoying it... And I have FAR less of a hangover on the return flight.. :P
I fly for a American VA so I go where we have routes too. We have weekly destinations that give you bonus miles for flying too so it gives us somewhere new to go.
Nice discovery Gavin. I mostly fly from Gatwick, Stansted, Luton or Southend and like you I realistically only have 2 to 3 hours flying time available so this is a great find.👍
As always a much appreciated video of the ongoings and all the fabulous stuff in and around MSFS. You boosted my interest with your videos and especially the lovely live streams in the sim to a new level. Thank you so much Gavin. Lots to come in the 2024 iteration too ❤😊🧑✈️✈️ My flight schedule normally starts with picking a departing airport first and then see what the time tables and destinations are (Flightradar24 is my tool of choice in 99% of the cases). Volanta is offering something similar in one package but it's only available with premium and I already have so many subscriptions in this regard.
I use a pilots life to decide where to fly. Realistic scheduling with a progression system following a particular airline. But I have recently taken the decision to stop flying until BeyondATC comes out. Don't want to be online but base ATC and FSHud have too many issues
I almost always fly with a Virtual Airline, so ultimately have a lot of selection. I enjoy the scrutiny and and point system to give you incentive to be correct.
I mimick real life flights, preferably simultanously with the real thing. My go to for this is Flightradar24. I have a list of all my repaints and their civil registrations. I then look up where the real aircraft with the registrations I have are currently at and pick one that is a) at its homebase at the moment b) will take off in no less than 20 Minutes, because that is the time I need at the minumum to prepare a flight package, load up the sim, position myself at the correct gate and do a quick preflight. The downside to this approach is that the routes are as varying as they are in real life. Which means not at all. How many flights to PMI or TFS can you bear in the summer?
Depending on how much time I have, I usually fly short and mid range. My homebase EDDW is often departure or arrival airport. Thx 4 the video, I appreciate your work very much. ❤
That’s a nice website. I will give a try. Thank you very much for your newest informations 👍 By the way: what cool airport scenery is this ? Looks amazing. Happy flights and have a great weekend
I fly tours, like around the coast of the UK, the State Capitals in the USA and currently the Capital Cities of the World. Although it can be a fair bit of work to plan it out, at least I always know where the next leg is to and from and about how long it is likely to take. My current tour is designed for the A320, but I might just use a longer ranged Airbus to get me from the final city back to the first one. This does look interesting though.
I pick an actual flight using FlightAware choose the airport and then see where flights from my chosen airport are going to I then use gate numbers and flight numbers etc just completed a flight from KORD to BIKF with Icelandair doing that way
That is the main reason why I fly IVAO instead of VATSIM: the Tours, my division (and probably most or all) and also IVAO as a whole do have all sorts of tours (i.e. Ryanair or Easyjet with realistic destinies based on my country) to keep us entertained which is integrated with your IVAO profile with achievements and so on. I never found that to exist in VATSIM. I don't like to cherry pick my flights based on weather and so on, i prefer to have a "reason" to fly somewhere, if the weather is fine and it's a dull flight, fine, that does happen in real life too. sometimes it isn't and I have challenging weather, or there is lot of traffic or lots of ATC online etc.
i always fly "legs" ... yesterday i flew EDDM -EDDH | EDDH-EGKK | EGKK-EDDL | EDDL-LOWK .... and i always start there where i left my plane the day before, e.g. today i already flew: LOWK-LOWI .. i never jump in my plane anywhere else....
Well I personally have a lot of flight ideas as before the pandemic used to travel a lot on plane. However if I can’t think of a flight, I default to a flight from KDFW to KJFK
Thanks for this I'll take a look. I currently use the A Random Flight Generator app for inspiration which is very similar but without the weather info and VATSIM (the latter is not an issue as I don't fly online).
I just built a program for myself. To tell me where to fly from and to. The backstory of my YT channel is that I fly for Organ Airways hence Organ Aviator. This is a fictional airline I created for myself. From there, my app just chooses a random route for me to fly. These routs are stored in a database
If I’m not flying with a virtual airline that will give you a few options (once you know where you fly from) then I’ll start by looking at the aircraft I have available and then who operates those aircraft and where they operate flights to and go from there
i have little imagination so i have made the rounds of the apps! onair, a pilots life 2, neofly and air hauler 2! i don't love any of them but onair probably works the best for my playstyle! i found the additional software required for a pilots life v2 was causing my sim to stutter on takeoff and landing and had to ditch that one!
I like to do the short flights, I enjoy the setting up, takeoff and approach/landing. The middle part is just boring.. I live inbetween EGCC and EGGP so I use both. I usually fly a mix between Manchester, Liverpool, Stansted, Dublin, Edinburgh. Got some other favourites such as Innsbruck, Faro, Gibraltar and Malaga. Canary Islands are also fun but I find the scenery isn't great in Fs20. It depends on how much time I have and usually weather conditions as to where I will fly.
Problem is VATSIM controller time on... nothing more frustrating than when you are setting up a flight and doing all the work, then you start your flight and the VATSIM controllers leave and dump you in unicom land. So if you are trying to get more ATC experience - that sucks when they do that. So for me, my primary search factor is this... time ATC active...cause I want the practice. I have found they GENERALLY stay on for 2 hrs... unless you are close to suppertime (4:30 - 6 pm)... then they disappear under 2 hrs.
I pick a departure airport that I want to fly from for various reasons (vatsim coverage, new / fav scenery in sim, whatever) and then I go on Fr24 and look for a flight to somewhere I want to go to and on equipment I want to use. Kinda just see what takes my fancy. This website should help!
Hey there! Creator of Where2Fly here. I've had some issues with false positives with firewalls and programs like that for unknown reasons. Thanks for letting me know, I'll contact Norton to let them manually review the page to update their database :) Try again in a few hours or tomorrow and it should be working again
Hi there, creator of Where2Fly. Norton marked the website wrongfully malicious, but I've talked to Norton and they've given it all green again after manual review. It'll be solved for you once you get the daily update from Norton :)
Hey there! Creator of Where2Fly here. I've had some issues with antivirus software wrongfully marking the site as malicious for some unknown reason, but when reaching out to the software provider they've manually reviewed the page and removed the flag. Which antivirus do you use , Jannik? So I can reach out and ask tthem review the website manually :)
Hey there! Creator of Where2Fly here. I've had some issues with false positives (it says it's dangerous, but it's not) with firewalls and such. I've contacted Norton and they've now manually reviewed and removed the warning. It's totally safe to use again now, your Norton will allow access to this site again once it has updated within a few hours.
I use an excellent little program from "Simbitworld" called "A Random Flight Generator" for generating a list of up to 10 random routes, based on up-to-date schedules. It can also generate the Simbrief flight plan for you. Works for me !. Thank you.
