What's cool about the crazy stuff is George has said that in universe the only people writing about this stuff are maesters who have never even been to the places they're writing about so we really have no idea what's actually true.

Sothoryos sounds like some kind of lost-in-time place. Vast jungle landscapes, Neanderthals, dinosaurs, yet ANOTHER ancient powerful civilization that mysteriously vanished long ago with no trace.

It is crazy just how creative GRRM is. Those of us who haven't read the books are constantly learning about all of the amazing things GOT had us missing out on

I'd like to imagine that they are a separate human species. Maybe they are like the Ibbenese? I remember they were described in the books as a distinctive look at that they apparently have a hard time breeding with "regular" humans.

I always liked to think the brindled men as Homo Erectus or Australopithecine, since early humans have flatter noses which resembles a pig nose, which was the description of brindled men. Plus GRRM is a science fiction guy, and likes to have his story as realistic as possible even though theres still magic and dragons. Also the giants descriptions seem to resemble big hominids or ape like early humans. And ibbenese seem to resemble Homo Neanderthals or Denisovans

In other words, the Argonians went to Tamriel fleeing from the Brindled Men, through the same portal that took Falmers to the world of ASOIAF and caused them to be devoured by the Brindled Men.

I don’t think the brindled men actually exist. Sothoryos is a place only explained through sailor stories and much like the real world those stories are probably mostly false (in the same way Europeans claimed there were “beastly savages” in the Americas and Africa). I like your shorts, but one of the ironies of taking what GRRM says as 100% (even though the source is bad) is that we are now part of that process of creating dehumanizing myths about those outside of the civilized centers along the narrow sea. Which I think was GRRMs point- that we are still susceptible to these myths (like we are still susceptible to the myths of knights and heroes) until he tears those myths.
