I heard that 759 could be restored into operation but Steamtown won't do it because the locomotive is too big for their facilities or something like that
As a museum professional and a train fanatic, every groan as they pulled that locomotive made my heart ache. So much rust! The elements haven't been kind! You can even see a chunk of rusted metal fall off! She desperately needs some serious care. A cosmetic restoration won't be enough if they're going to run her under steam.
Why not restore 757 to operate under her own power. Steam locomotives were built to be run + you'd be able to loan her out to other railroads like the 765 and make a good amount of finances to cover restoration and maintenance over time. Let 757 stretch her wheels under her own power instead of letting her sit again only looking a little nicer
Oh my god... I just realized I go there all the time and I was in the cab of the 757. I also de-coupled both the front and the back. It’s such a beautiful engine! Great video.
This is an attractive example of a steam locomotive and I am glad to see that this engine is being properly cared for. The NKP 757 seriously needs a cosmetic restoration and needs to be rebuilt to a proper physical condition, I hope to see this locomotive in the future being in similar condition to the NKP 765 as being in a respectable physical condition.
i wish they would make this operational at Strasburg, I could be wrong but with the size of that tender and boiler, that engine could probibly do more then 4 runs back and forth before refilling
Jordan Brubaker nope your not. Considering that it has a similar if not EXACT same build as 765 or as I refer to her the Juliet Rocket 757 could and most likely can do everything that 765 can.
With 1223 being shown pulling 757 in the early 1960’s I hope Strasburg will use 90, 475, and 89 together to pull 757 to Leman Place as a sendoff farewell to 757.
757 was my clock number. tv factory. That aside. From findlay, arcadia, and fostoria ohio. Lived along the nickle plate. And saw many steamers. Pass my child hood home. Of church St. arcadia ohio. Thanks for good show. Oh forgot to mention "smiley Davidson " god rest his soul.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Sonny Calvin i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
David Archer the initial and number shown in the video was just a standard stencil. When it's time for the restoration, the proper lettering will be used. The Nickel Plate Road had their own unique font. You can download the font for a fee here. www.railfonts.com/
This is great 757 is being tested but I hope she won’t be moved out completely because I wanna take more pictures of her also did the one connecting rod that was hanging get taken off before testing or did it get put back on the king pin?
Justin's Trains, the rod that has been hanging for a few years now was the main rod and it was removed for the trip. The connecting rods will stay on in order to keep the driving wheel counterweights aligned.
Why not fully restore it? The NPK 765 has been fully restored and operating for a long time so why not restore the 757 completely? Imagine the image of the two ruining down the tracks together wouldn't that be outstanding? But nope. She's going to be static display. No pulling freight while thundering down the line blasting her whistle for her, no excursion trains filled with passengers as they stare in awe of the giant machine before them, no racing the 765 nope. This engine is for static display only.
If this locomotive is only being moved for display then leave it be where it is and take the money and apply it towards restoring something. The 50k its going to take just to relocate this thing would be a big chunk toward say completing the T1 which is at 50% done or better as of now.
