I went to the Leeds show a couple of days before this one and when this medley started the crowd was just a mix of confused faces and people absolutely losing their minds. Diamonds Aren’t Forever is so so underrated

5:59. I'm a metal Vocalist/Guitarist, I do both screams/growls, yells and, singing. For the most part... When you do screams with proper technique it is actually alot more relaxed then most singing is. It's not like you're straight up shouting. Your vocal cords are very relaxed. Think of it like boiling water, singing is like water in a pot, it's fluid. Now screaming with propper techniques is treating your voice like boiling the water, you relax the voice, add the heat which is the diaphragm, you get that little crackle in the voice, which is like the water slowly starting to bubble up... as the water continues to heats up the molecules move more rapidly, the hydrogen bonds break which is the voice cracking, building that distortion. allowing the water molecules to move freely and escape. and thus become gas/steam, which would be the whistle you hear as the steam escapes out the teapot. (The whistle being the scream) Though the boiling water may look chaotic... Or in this case with vocals... "Sound" chaotic, the Process of the water turning into gas is natural. Same with screams and the vocalcords Now doing it incorrectly is like turning water into ice, and then just smashing it with a hammer... In which you're tightening your larynx, activating your Vocal cords way more then you need too... Just straining, turning it into ice as it's constricted and just slamming them with way too much air pressure, just straight up shouting basically. That will fuck your voice up. There are screams that utilize some vocal cord activation though that's more of a distorted singing or Pitched scream. Similar to Sam of Architects and some of Oli Sykes screams too, which can be a little more dangerous to learn as it's really easy to accidentally turn your voice into that ice analogy I mentioned when doing this style of scream/singing.. But once you understand it and can control it, you can do it safely. Though Oli did alot of those techniques incorrectly prior to sempiternal, and even during... that's why he's had vocal damage and got help from Melissa Cross. This goes for growls/falsecords too, not just fry screams. So... Yeah... Screaming with proper technique is usually more relaxing then singing. (Not always though, it depends on the technique and style of scream you're going for) but in all cases it should never hurt or be that straining. Just as singing should never hurt or be straining, yet people still hurt their voices while singing due to improper technique. no different from screaming

I really miss their heavier style as much as I like and appreciate their newer stuff, I'm glad Oli is still able to do this vocal and it gives me hope that they might return to this one day. Definitely check out pray for plagues when you get a chance and alligator blood, awesome songs. 🤘

I saw this medley back in 2019 in LA,, and I've loved BMTH since i was 12 (im 18 now) so seeing it live was so amazing. They are such great performers and the energy in the room especially during that part was INSANE, making me miss concerts now haha

I was lucky enough to see this done live in melbourne when tbey played here. A guy in the crowd had a massive sign that said "play the deathcore medley" he brought it out for their encore. Eventually the band caved and did it. Made the guy get into the middle of a wall of death first though hahahaha

Lit, was there for one of their performances in London. Crowd just flips a switch and goes mental, love it.

What you talked about with screaming and then singing is exactly why so many metal core vocalists end up having to have surgery. You’re vibrating two very different parts of your vocal cords to hit the screams versus singing. Going back-and-forth between the two spots too much will tear them apart. Eventually those singers have to choose one or the other and then just scream a little bit here and there.

I'm so glad I got to see this when they did it in Chicago. I'm really mad I didn't get to see them till like 2013 or so and never really got to see any old stuff. Now I just need to make it to a London show to catch Pray For Plagues someday

5:59 My thoughts after hearing the AOL session of LP's Given Up after Chester does the full scream live and just continues as if it was a slight breath he'd used up, wish they'd release 21 Stitches or the unedited version of Given Up, Mike said that they had to cut that scream down from about 30 seconds.

I would quite like to hear your opinion on their album “Amo” which is arguably the least favourite amongst fans due to it being very soft compared to other albums. Honestly, I wouldnt spend too much time listening to their first album aside from Pray For Plagues. For that I'd honestly recommend doing the live version at Download. But Suicide Season has some really good stuff. My personal recommendation is to listen to the entire There Is A Hell album for their really heavy bits.

It was so hype I saw then when they came to Chicago in February 2019 and I dead ass shit my pants when they said they were doing this

To answer your question, if you're screaming "right" it's actually relaxing to scream despite how it sounds. There are far more ways to scream than what is known on the internet (according to my vocal coach) and the mechanics vary between them all, but all good screams don't cause vocal damage. Some are even regenerative and let the vocal folds relax. Edit: I would also like to add that the way Oli Sykes is screaming here seems very unhealthy to me, which explains the vocal damage he got. And not all vocal damage shows itself immediately. In his 2019 performance of Pray For Plagues live, he sounded like he fixed his technique, so luckily he seems fine now.
