i feel like when jordan started working with the band he probably wasnt into metal at all, he seemed like he followed the radiohead trajectory of falling out of love with heavy rock music, he probably found bmth's music quite cringeworthy at first and as time went on he warmed to it, realising he was actually working on quite fringe and experimental music for a metal band, i respect his honesty in expressing his initial doubts and am glad he came around in the end, hes a credit to them and was pivotal in helping the band realise their vision and not becoming just another stagnant conveyor belt metal band.

this comment couldn’t be further from the truth he said in a podcast with the downbeat that he wants to play stuff from there is a hell but the other guys don’t wanna play it he’s been a fan of heavy music for a while so he’s not ever found them cringe
@EmberedAsh
@EmberedAsh Год назад
@@jamie7976 it was an opinion, the only person that truly knows is Jordan but that's what I took from this interview, he says himself he went off heavy music and got really into electronic music, much like one of his favourite bands radiohead, he also says it took him a while into the process before he realised what they were making was pretty cool and until then he didn't really have any stakes in it, I imagine he was probably somewhat into deftones and their ilk (Linkin Park, Tool, NIN, etc) but bmth's music is a far cry from what radiohead and deftones were doing at that point, in summary there's no way either of us could know, I was merely speculating what I felt could be the case.

He literally said in this interview he liked metal lol
@EmberedAsh
@EmberedAsh Год назад
@@itsWAHOO2012 yes he liked nu metal like deftones back in the day but by the time he joined bmth it was the 2010's and he was into electronic music, its possible his music taste changed, he may have liked deftones but that's not to say he liked anything bmth were doing, there used to be a stigma around them in the metal community back in the day after all.

“If it’s really strong then it doesn’t matter if it’s a complete change of vibe for the band cuz the strength of it will just carry it beyond anything they’ve done before” The most perfect summary of BMTH’s musical progression over their career. Jazz album before too long I reckon.

The fish is an underrated guy honestly. His work is great, lovdd his collaboration with Dead Poet Society with salt. Im a huge BMTH fan, they are the reason i really got into metal and music in general. Saw them for the first time last year in LA after being a fan for almost a decade, and im gonna see them again with them Headlining Download. Always great hearing jordan talk about the band, i feel like he downplays himself sometimes. Know your worth fish!

I think Jordan is the reason BMTH are where they are. Before Sempiternal, they were like an underground band that only 40% people knew. So, he is the epitome of their success.

I feel that most musicians work too hard for something so easy. Music is an auditorial illustration of a personal perspective, belief, or narrative of a certain situation at hand. So why on earth do we try so hard to paint with our eyes shut? Why not focus on the picture first and illustrate the sound after the visuals…. Why not do a video story board of the most emotionally impacting visuals… Write a grocery list of every hook you want in the song, break downs, pause for effects, soft intro, hard intro, hard song, soft song, what ever you want in it, write it down. Key changes, tempo changes, what ever…. The more dramatic the vision, the more dramatic the auditorial illustration. Then you use the circle of fifths to your advantage. When preparing my DAW I set the click track to one click tone so that it’s not keeping count that way all you have is the grid and you can do the count for yourself… Story board the music video, the song, the notes by the circle of fifths, and just focus on what it’s going to sound like. Once the instrumental is complete… Do the vocal phrasing… Not the lyrics… Just the way the vocals are going to sound, back up vocals, all that stuff…. Then write lyrics that greatly impact what the visuals are trying to convey…. Write as many versions as you like… Mix and match… And go with the most compelling version you can make up. Make things as easy on yourselves as possible that way your not going through endless amounts of headaches trying to compose something larger than life. But what do I know, I’m just a simple home recording musician who’s recovering from oral surgery who can’t sing until the recovery is done. Took me 15 years to come up with that process all on my own. But, yeah… That’s the way I do it. Seems to yield pretty good results for me. Hope it works for somebody out there. Hope it does a better job once my lymph node stops flaring up and my voice is useful again.

Am I the only one who thinks That’s The Spirt has had a WAY bigger influence on the scene? I can’t think of a single band that is still utilizing the Sempiternal sound to this day. Meanwhile, the newest songs from bands like The Plot In You, I See Stars, Caskets, Asking Alexandria, and Crown The Empire all has that TTS edge to them with simple single string riffs + minimal double kick + super compressed drums + a ton of synth layers + huge choruses + modern pop vocal production. And the album came out 8 years ago only 2 years after Sempiternal. Also, not to mention the amount of bands that fully went into that pop rock direction following the album release before bringing back the heaviness into their music.

I just listened to the materials released before 2015 by the bands I mentioned and none of them had that sound back then

That’s why those bands you mentioned suck now. Asking Alexandria is a perfect example of falling off. I’m not sure why some of these metalcore bands want to switch up what has made them successful, but it happens every now and then. Architects stopped using “Blegh” in their lyrics, and have become softer as well.

well, this interview says much about the band and the mebers. we can see now, who is the creator of the current bmth success. unfortunately, I think the other members were bothered by the desire for conquest that fish had with the band

Jordan’s response is…interesting. after also hearing his thoughts on TTS and Amo, he seems to have a lot of things he doesn’t like about all of the albums he’s been apart of, or questions a lot of the creative decisions. this one’s too metal, but that one’s too arena rock. this one’s too pop, but that one’s not catchy enough. this one’s too derivative, but that one’s too weird. seems a little contradictory, even a little confusing? BMTH has done every damn near genre in the book, but the sound is still not where he wants it to be? maybe I took it wrong but that’s how it’s coming across to me. There Is a Hell is my favorite BMTH album, but Sempiternal is arguably the pinnacle of their career. it’s 100% a classic album within their discography and in rock music as a whole. it’s the one album that everyone, the fans of the old sound and fans of the new sound, can agree on. it was super influential on the scene and got a lot of bands to try something less heavy and more melodic. and his opinion on it is just “meh…it was alright”?? he said he doesn’t want to be a normal rock band and wants to always do something different, but then at the end made it seem like Oli is the one who is pressuring everyone to do so. so I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♂️
