I always felt Nihilist Blues was like something out of Sempiternal but in disguise as an Electro/Synth style song. The intro notes had quite a resemblance to CYFMH and the overall dark sound and vibe of it really gives it away, not to mention the downbeat chord progression on the song and even the lyrics as well. If you try to turn it into a Rock song, you’ll definitely hear some of “Go to Hell, for Heaven’s Sake” in there!

Nihilist Blues is a really weird song, but not in a bad way. When the album first came out I definitely liked the song, but songs like Mantra, SHIT etc. were the top songs for me. But then with years passing, looking back, Nihilist Blues is potentially the best song that came out of that album. The vocals, lyrics, synths and especially the build and atmosphere are unlike anything else I'd had heard in music in general. And so the song's held up really well. I also wish peeps would talk about I don't know what to say and I apologise if you feel something more - they are just outright beautiful songs. I love how artsy they are lyrically and musically and in a weird way, now reflecting, it actually brings me back a bit too There is a Hell, Sempiternal BMTH - and I love that.

I apologize for the long wall of text, figured I'd share my thoughts on the Amo album. I really enjoyed five or six songs out of the entire Amo album (out of the 13 there), and the rest I couldn't get into, those being Wonderful Life, Mantra, Medicine, Sugar Honey Ice & Tea, Ouch, and Heavy Metal (primarily because I like it's combination of synths and heavy metal sounds, despite the lyrics). I can see why others would call the album "mid", and I'd agree with others that there's more misses than hits, but I'm at least appreciative of it's existence because it's a bit more experimental compared to their previous albums. It reminds me of Linkin Park's "Heavy" in a way, I hated it at the time, but it eventually grew on me, and became one of my favorite tracks from them, and recent happenings with a relative of mine passing away and the first time that I listened to that song being in the car on the radio with them, it makes it hit different on an emotional level. But that side tangent aside, that is still a hell of a lot better than other rock or metal bands that have been around for a while, one of the main ones being Three Days Grace on the top of my head (As much as I used to like them, and as much as I found a few of the tracks on Explosions to be good, the rest just doesn't sit right with me). Based on the reaction around the Amo album, and stuff that I've heard about from interviews with Oli around the making of that album, I can see why Jordan Fish and others find that album a bit awkward, and I can't blame them. And this is coming from someone who recently got into their music proper 2-3 years ago (after the earworm that was the track featured on the Gigachad meme, something which I now feel is hilariously unfitting for the meme considering the context of the song, and being exposed to stuff like Chelsea Smile), I really enjoyed That's The Spirit and Sempiternal and I've listened to those albums on repeat enough times to lose count or drive someone insane (I blame ADHD). I liked some of the tracks on TIAHBISITIAHLKIAS, and Suicide Season, and even found some of the songs that people cite in Count Your Blessings for calling BMTH "cringe" to be campy as fuck, despite the cheese. The way that I see it, one of the big appeals to me when it comes to BMTH is their experimentation and their more front-and-center focus on thought out and profound lyrics. I used to be big into Linkin Park when I was a teen, and I really regret not getting into BMTH's music sooner, they've quickly filled the void that LP left for me.

Amo’s been my favorite album from them for the past year or so. While it trudges through a lot of phases, everything kinda sticks out well even if some songs are a tad meh like S.H.I.T. and the intro song. The themes of love throughout the album are also well-thought out and intriguing. It’s different for everyone, but I love the way they go into these tracks both lyrically and musically that I can just listen and jive with all of it casually at this point. When the album was released I couldn't understand what was going on. But after listening to it a couple of times and watching the interviews they did talking about it, I got the point of that album. It was like they were saying: we are doing whatever the heck we want and it's going to be good. And that's when I understood the purpose of that whole phase. It really reinforced my love for the band and actually that album is the soundtrack of one of the most beautiful periods of my life. I am a bit sad that it didn't get the recognition it deserves and that they are not playing more songs from that album in their concerts. Nihilist Blues is currently one my favourite songs from BMTH, the sound is awesome and the lyrics are powerful, also wonderful life and mother toungue are on my top list rn. I have been listening to them since There's A Hell, and I was one of those always expecting their sound to keep on been heavy, but after Amo I saw that they are far beyond a classy metal band. They are pushing the boundaries of the genre and creating a new sound to keep metal alive and fresh. That's why Amo is important. It was a powerful statement from them.

Bring Me the Horizon was my favorite band from Count Your Blessings to Sempiternal. as a huge fan who was really turned off by pretty much everything that came after, it is really refreshing to hear Jordan’s perspective regarding the band’s big change during That’s the Spirit and Amo. I’m not even completely hellbent on everything having to be super heavy or rehashing the same sound from the previous albums, as much as I love the previous sound. I’m a big fan of many genres other than metal. I’m sure a lot of the heavier stuff can be a bit triggering for Oli, and I respect and understand the decision they made to branch out from metalcore and metal altogether once he got sober. There Is a Hell… and Sempiternal are still 2 of my favorite albums of all time, and I love all of the very melodic, less heavy, more experimental tracks on those albums. they were so ahead of the curve and incredibly creative with the way they incorporated other genres. and I personally feel like Sempiternal was the perfect balance between the old and the new sound and would’ve loved to hear them explore that style a bit more. but I just felt like a lot of the material on TTS and Amo was way too generic radio friendly pop rock with basically nothing of what made me love BMTH for all those years. it’s reassuring to hear that the band (or at least Jordan) agrees that they leaned too hard into the pop and radio rock directions. Post Human, while not perfect, is the best thing they’ve put out in the last 10 years. so I am hopeful they will start making their way back around. regardless I will always respect BMTH for having the guts to always do whatever they want to do, and I am happy that they were able to achieve the massive amount of success that they did

It's the sound of a band selling out their sound and fans but doing it intentionally and it's fucking sick. Even songs like Mother Tongue that make me cringe endlessly are non-skips. First BMTH album with no Skips, at least until they made Post Human 1.

Sugar Honey is also my favorite BMTH song, it's the song that got me into the band. It's perfect. Not to mention, the song Why You Gotta Kick Me When I'm Down is on there and it's so fucking majestic. I've also cried dozens of times to I don't know what to say

Finn I don't think I believe you when you say Amo is your favorite album. I bet you say that now and believe it, but I also bet you would easily go on stream tomorrow and say Count Your Blessings is your favorite. One day you are pop Finn, the next day you may be metal gatekeeper Finn. Not a criticism, just an observation.

Even Jordan cringed at Sugar, Honey, Ice and Tea being the interviewers' favorite BMTH song. 😁 Amo has a few good tracks, but it's a long way from being the band's best work in my opinion and is absolutely miles behind the likes of Sempeternal.

Nah imo Amo>> sempiternal. Over than the heavy songs is a chore to listen to. Especially with how bad oli cleans were at the time.

If you don’t look at Amo from the perspective of being a “bmth” or a “metal” album then it is definitely above most of their discography

Funny what Jordan says at the end because literally the three latest songs they released were generic as fuck.. going through the motions. I’d take 10 amo albums over the boring stuff we get now from them

It's nice that you thinks so, folks like you are what made BMTH bigger and I'm happy for them but I still wish that they make another "There is a Hell..." at least one more time. I'm a newer BMTH fan but IMHO their older stuff are better.

Amo is easily their worst album. It's hardly got any replay factor to it. Some gems on there though like I Don't Know What To Say and Wonderful Life, Mantra too- other than those none of the songs are really memorable.
