Thanks for sharing. My dad and uncle both custom owned a ford truck in 1971 and 72. My dad’s was a 1973 f250 camper special 351 w with an automatic three speed. He paid $7,245.87 for his truck. He ordered it with only power brakes so if the dealership tried to tack on extra charges like they always do ones would want it when he refused to pay for the extra fees and it was white in Oregon. It snows in Oregon and the last thing people want is a white vehicle in the snow. My uncle did the same thing in Louisiana but it took three tries in 1971. Green, white, and blue.

That's a pretty smart way to buy a truck! Wish we could go back in time and snag a few! 😁 Thanks for watching, Sam! --Emily

Unless someone changed the intake manifold that engine is not a 360 because they didn’t put 4 barrels on 360’s. It could be an older 352 engine with newer 360/390 style valve covers on it, opt it could be a 390 or even a 428. The only way to know is to look up the numbers on the engine. Also with Ford, the first 2 identification letter and number on them is the year indicator. If a part number starts with A it’s from the 1940’s, B is 1950’s, C is 1960’s, D is 1970’s and so on. The second marking will be a number from 0 to 9. For example a part number on an intake manifold that starts with C8 would be from a 1968 vehicle. If it starts with D0 it’s a 1970 or if it’s D1 it would be from 1971. Ford year identification is extremely easy to do. As for getting it started for the first time, may I make a suggestion? Instead of “bottle feeding” the carb until fuel is primed from tank to carburetor, may I suggest just filling the float bowl (or bowls on a 4 bbl Holley) through the float bowl vent and then start it. I have seen engines backfire and have the flames from the carburetor follow the spray of gas from a bottle back to the bottle and catch it on fire when someone was bottle feeding an engine

It's a 390. Originally had a 2 barrel on it. I measured its stroke. Thanks for your reply We appreciate it.

@@UglyTruckExperience hopefully you never have to remove the intake or heads from it for any reason in the future. The Ford FE series engines have what is probably the heaviest intake manifold in automotive history.

I remember them back in the day, we would lift them off and on with a cherry picker.

@@UglyTruckExperience I unfortunately wasn’t in possession of a cherry picker or the common sense to buy or borrow one to do it and foolishly lifted them off by hand once I got them broken free with either a flat screwdriver or a pry bar. Now that I am many years older and at least somewhat (I hope) wiser, I realize with every step or movement my mistakes of manually lifting heavy items for all those years while thinking I was almost invincible in many ways. I presently have 11 bad discs, in my back and neck and 4 already fused discs and a metal plate and 10 screws in my neck, arthritis all over my spine, permanent nerve damage and am on a 5 pound weight limit for the rest of my life. I was too young and ignorant to realize how much it would affect me later in life. 51 years old and I am not even supposed to lift a gallon jug of milk because of the damage done. I should have listened to my dad when he repeatedly tried to tell me to work smart not hard and to use the right tools for a job. Hopefully any of your viewers who read this will listen to my words and avoid the mistakes I made and avoid becoming a crippled and crushed shell of who they currently are.

I was expecting you to LS swap that old Ford. That engine is a gas guzzling dog.

Thanks for watching Ronny. That is a perfect description of that motor. I don't know what ended up happening to that truck, but it would have been great with an LS. Jerry and Emily

Have you learned how to rebuild and tune a 4 barrel yet?
@UglyTruckExperience
@UglyTruckExperience 2 года назад
I can rebuild one and adjust idle when I need to, but I still leave the fine tuning to Jerry. 😁 We don't get many carburetors through the shop, so my carb lessons are pretty few and far between. Thanks for watching! 👋
