I'm a building maintenance supervisor at a wv prison. I had a heart attack in September and have been home, bored out of my mind. I stumbled onto your channel and have been binge watching since. Makes me feel better watching actual work being done. I Like the way the videos are done and I'm actually learning a good bit. Thanks for the therapy, I'm sure you didn't have that planned, but it helps me want to get back to work. Stay safe...

Had a customer who loaned her VW Bug to some friends. They drove it onto a dolley ,towed behind their M/H, and left it in gear! Locked-up crankshaft in engine and fried the transaxle. Input shaft was welded into the flywheel gland nut, and was nearly impossible to get them separated. Choking clutch stench. Required two new rear tires also, that was the cheap part.

G'day Scott, Awesome video. Great you being behind the camera explaining what the young bucks have found and what their doing. Any chance of a quick peek inside I know is stripped but it's always interesting getting a look at the entire bus. Thanks for sharing . ✌️Peace from Melbourne Australia.

Man I would like to have got that one. I'm dumping a bunch of things I either lost interest in or I simply don't Need. We seem to think we have to have everything when we're young and later find our solitude in returning back to a simpler life. I'm not saying I'm going to get a grey dog for sure "but" I catch myself dreaming about it since I've been watching your Platform. Just a young old truck driver that's been in love with the sound of the two stroke Detroit my whole life and I'm thinking maybe this is the next adventure, besides you're now between me and Nashville so I wouldn't have that far to go for whatever the bus needed. I really enjoy the Platform.👍

My old double deck 1970s city bus engine used to hunt bad until she was up to temperature and then purred like a kitty. Mechanical pump an engineer let her get hot then set the pump. Put her in 2nd gear (fluid flywheel semi automatic 1st was crawler for full load on a hill start) slight dip then she would purr. Llet off the brake and purrs wait for traffic light to go green. In crawler 1st go to 8mph shift to 2nd and off we went. Lovely old British Gardner engine. Not fast but will go up any hill. 5 speed semi automatic with air shifter on 5 brake bands.

Hi from the UK. Thank you, Scott and Tyler for your usual informative and interesting video. I'm never going to own a bus, still less a US one, but I really enjoy your RU-vid channel which I have followed since inception. At 21:09 I noticed that the bolts holding the wheel arch shroud appear to be rusty although the shroud itself and the main body of the bus, being aluminium, are not. Is the rust on the bolts a consequence of non-standard (i.e. steel) bolts having been retrofitted, or because of salt on the winter roads? Alternatively, is that the way they came out of the factory? Have you heard of Ben Hamper's book, 'Rivet-head' (It's a tale of his life working on the assembly line at GM Truck and Bus). If not, I think you'd enjoy it. Maybe a Christmas Gift...... .

I hate when people blank out window using flat sheet metal, it would not be hard to make proper ribbed filler panels that would blend right in. It's actually easy to make any body panels needed for a bus by making a simple dies and running sheets through a pullmax.

I witnessed someone towing a VW bug with a U-Haul truck that pulled out in front of me with the VW in gear. It was dusk and despite flashing my headlights repeatedly the driver never stopped. I could here the engine on the bug turning over at a pretty high RPM. It took about a mile and there was a very loud hammering "Clunk" and the tires locked up on the bug. Driver kept going with the back tires locked up and smoking with the bug swaying side to side. I turned off at my exit since it was too late to try to help any further.

Now that’s funny. Pre-trip. You can’t even get these people to do the simplest pre-trip in the world. It’s not even classified as a pre-trip. Well, maybe it is. A walk around. Just checking your lights looking for the obvious tires rims missing Lugnuts light covers missing lights not working. Been down look under the vehicle. When it’s running. See if somethings leaking or there’s a puddle forming underneath the vehicle from a leak. If so stick your finger in it and see what type of fluid it is. So you know what fluid to check. Maybe you need some if you can’t check it you know to stop at a garage.

@BusGreaseMonkey
@BusGreaseMonkey Год назад
We always try a few hammer hits first. Sometimes it works quick and easy. The press takes about 7-8 min to get out and set up but it does work on getting it out in about 1 min. If the initial sledgehammer works it’s a quick easy But if it don’t the press is a dream

@BusGreaseMonkey
@BusGreaseMonkey Год назад
Please explain how that happened? I can not figure out how an axle nut injury to the eye could happen.
@123turby
@123turby Год назад
@@BusGreaseMonkey I was using a chisel to take the axle nut off and a chip of steel penetrated my eye. Went to the hospital they examined me and sent me home. 9 months later sitting in a coffee shop I said to my buddy we have to get out of here there’s flies everywhere. He looked at me and said nope no flies here but you have one green eye and one blue eye. The piece of steel was floating in my eye for 9 months and they guess when I rubbed my eye the steel went trough my retina. Had major surgery and 10 years later totally blind in that eye. After another 10 years they had a procedure to replace some vision maybe 40% and I had that surgery. So long story yea. You only get two eyes. I hope I’m not preaching. Anyway love the Chanel and thank you for the content.
@BusGreaseMonkey
@BusGreaseMonkey Год назад
We use axle nut sockets not chisels. As a matter of fact I’m always bitching about people using a damn chisel instead of the right tool. So this is more of a confirmation of don’t use a chisel to do the job of a socket. Eye protection is something that’s always a good eyedia for most tasks anyway.

All that chisel damage on what were originally perfectly good, serviceable, carefully made parts which should otherwise still be that way.🤦‍♂ Reminded me of the old adage "if you have a hammer in your tool kit eventually everything might start to look like it should be bashed with it". Apparently it applies to chisels as well! Maybe people who do inexplicable, inexcusable stuff like that chisel damage should be referred to as 'part-time pounders'?
