I drove from NJ to St. Louis to see this for a minute and it was worth every second driving

Thank you! Bringing this back brings back a tangible piece of history to our family. My grandfather worked as a fireman on these locomotives going from Ogden, UT to Green River, WY. He died before I was born and there is little left that we have from him. This is something special to us, his descendants. We’re very appreciative of the decision and work that went into restoring this beast.

When the COVID news gets too much I rewatch Big Boy UP videos to boost my spirits. Going to the past, touching on nostalgia, reconstructing the past using Big Boy steel and steam, gives me the steel to get through COVID. Health and strength to you all rail fans ...

I’m so sad I will never see this beast in real life because I live all the way over in Australia but I thank you so much for bringing this giant, gargantuan piece of absolute amazing material back on the railway to transport passengers, freight and memories. I’m hoping this engine doesn’t break down for about at least two decades to give me enough time to move out because I’m 11 right now and want go to America to view this gargantuan beast for myself

Americans have always loved and respected the biggest, fastest and heaviest mechanical machines in the world, and the Big Boy more than meets those criteria in every way. That's why it is so special that the Union Pacific rebuilt this huge baby from an era gone by, so that those today do not miss out on seeing and hearing this historical piece of American railroading. About a week ago he gave a great big hand to a stalled freight line in Blair NE. It was nothing the Big Boy. he just flexed his muscles, cleared the firebox, popped knuckles, and rolled coal.

A great achievement by all involved - now future generations can witness history.

Looking back this is one of the most important pieces of American history even though it’s in the modern generation. We will never forget this. Welcome back big boy

To the Union Pacific Railroad, Ed Dickens, and countless people who worked on the Big Boy and the other steam locomotives in their livery, thank you for bringing the Big Boy back to life, I said to myself many years ago how amazing it would be to see a Big Boy thunder down the tracks some day, I guess I never really thought it would happen and you all made it possible for everyone to enjoy once again. Steam locomotives are an amazing part of our country's history and for you all to have so many of them that are preserved in running condition is such a great testament to you and the people you have working there that have a huge passion for preserving them, I'm quite sure that it's not really profitable to spend tons time and tons of money on the steam program but you all have done an excellent job of keeping them alive for generations to come when most other railroads have given up on any type of steam program, I have said to my self that I almost wish you all would get the J611 and take her out to the mid west and make her a part of your amazing steam program so she could stretch her legs more often, the Queen of steam would be in the same company as the King of steam but maybe things will change for the better for her, she's going to Strasburg for the fall and maybe next year she will be run even more, thanks for all of your hard work and dedication to the steam locomotives you have cared for and loved so much and made it possible for so many people of all generations and from all over the world to enjoy once again.

Finally got to see this big fella steaming thru the North Texas countryside from Pottsboro to Denton yesterday Ran alongside it at 50mph as it blasted the whistle and cranked along like some fire and brimstone breathing dragon from legend Loved every bit of it Thanks UP Ya'll did a great job!

I plan on bringing my family (all 5 of us), from Australia to see and ride on a rolling piece of history.
