Still cannot work out why they built so much of this line double-track restricting it to a reliable maximum frequency of 4 trains per hour and with yet another flat junction on the Suburban track pair. How difficult will these two things be to fix if they ever wanted to run more trains I wonder, have they provisioned for future improvements?
@@xtrapolis29 Yeah if you are interested, Brisbane currently has a big problem that there are only 2 main pairs of tracks that run through the city. These 2 track pairs have to carry 6 different branches from the North to 4 different branches from the South, which sounds unbalanced but actually it isn't because there is more demand from the South and they would like to build another line but can't due to the capacity constraint through the city. Making it worse, there are a tonne of flat junctions along the track pair that carries the Airport line which further restricts capacity so they can't reliably run more trains, and this causes disruptions and delays. They are attempting to fix this by building Cross River Rail which is essentially a third track pair through the city so in theory increases network capacity by another 50%, but they are trying to pretend that with this one bit of infrastructure all the problems go away - they don't, and some lines are also incredibly slow (the Cleveland line and Ferny Grove are basically quicker by bus).
