WE NEED TO TALK! How extreme is Brisbane's weather? After watching this video, you'll have a much better idea of what to expect.
You'll see what the extremes are, how it varies from area to area, and you'll hear about the storms and floods, and I'll tell you about some useful free apps to help you stay safe in Brisbane's crazy weather. I still think the climate is great, despite the storms, lightning, hail, wind and all the extremes of heat in summer, because on average, it's still not bad!
Here's a link to the Brisbane City Council's Flood Awareness Map: www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/commu...
Here's the Cancer Council's Sunsafe app: www.cancer.org.au/cancer-info...
And here's the Weatherzone app: weatherzone.app/

Great summary of Brisbane’s weather. Couple of extra things to remember. The other reason it’s so “hot” in Brisbane is that the it gets hot early and does not cool off until late (if it cools off at all). It’s not like it gradually increases and then peaks at 2 and then starts to drop. It will be 32 at 9:00 in the morning and still be 32 at 5:00 in the arvo. The best thing about Brisbane weather is the beautiful winter days.

It's the opposite here in Canada. Our Summer, the heat gradually creeps up throughout the morning until it peaks around 1-2PM. then it cools off as the afternoon and evening progresses. However, I am jealous that you do not have snow! Our winter's here are so cold with about 3 feet of snow in some parts of Canada.

This an excellent site for those looking to or who already live in Brisbane. A possible future video might be the best and worst suburbs when it comes to storm damage. For example, I live in the Wynnum area and we almost never see storm damage, even when other suburbs are smashed. I don't know where you would get that information, possibly the insurance peak body, but I am sure that a video of that nature would be eagerly watched. Keep up the great work.

Regarding humidity it is better to refer to the Dew Point or Wet Bulb temperature as this is a better gauge on human comfort. Cooler air holds much less moisture, for example 100% humidity at 18c is MUCH more bearable than 100% at 24c.

Did you mention the sea-breeze? If you are fairly near the coast, a hot day will always give you a sea breeze as the air rises over the hot land and draws the cooler air in from the sea. recently found your channel and it's really informing. I'm moving to Brisbane in few months and can not wait. Me and my partner are a bit scared about accommodation and hope to find a short term rent before moving there, then find a job (he is a joiner, I'm lab assistant in food lab) so less worry about job and then find long term accommodation based on location of our work places. I haven't watched all your video's but I will, to get as much information as I can. If you could please advise about short term rent? Where to look and is it possible to rent without being there? We live in NZ since 2014 and we are already NZ Citizens. Thanks a lot, Maciej
@BrisbaneChannel
@BrisbaneChannel 2 года назад
I think what you'll find most challenging is securing a rental without already having work lined up. For rental applications, you usually have to provide proof of employment and a couple of payslips, so in an already competitive market, you'll definitely have your work cut out for you. If you have substantial savings, offering to pay a few months in advance may help, and that's a strategy that some people moving from other cities have used to secure a rental here (they often pay six to twelve months up front). I'm really not sure how you'd go trying for something short-term, as most landlords prefer a more secure, long-term tennant, and with such a competitive market, it would be hard to compete with others who are settled in the area they're applying for, or at least know they're likely to be there for at least a year. I'd advise you to try using Jora to find which areas have the most work in the fields you and your partner work in (details of this are in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QUEIICtESO4.html), and look for a place there. It's certainly not unheard of to secure a place before you arrive, but it will take something to give you a competitive edge and to make them feel that your tenancy will be a secure one.

Brisbane's climate is shit ! It gets too cold in winter and now in NOVEMBER 2022 its weather has gone from warm to strangely cool and windy . Is this climate change? Brisbane seems to be coming more like Melbourne instead of north Queensland. Doesn't seem to be really subtropical /bordering on tropical. No wonder so many are moving to Cairns for the nice weather !

I'm no climate scientist, but I feel climate change is evident in what's happening.

I understand this is an old comment, but 2020 to 2022 were unseasonably wet and cool years. It was very evident even in my own garden, especially after the black summer. If you are still in Bris now I'm sure you can tell it is very different this year.
