Located roughly about a 5-hour drive from Las Vegas is Nevada's only National Park Great Basin. I filmed this in July of 2020 and the temperatures were way cooler than the Las Vegas Valley. The 1st hike I did at this park was the 4.5-mile Bristlecone Pine Glacier Trail. This is a moderate hike with 1059ft of elevation gain. It is a really beautiful trail that takes you to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest where some of the world's oldest trees are. The trail ends at Nevada only glacier on the side of Wheeler Peak. The hike is not to be missed on your future visit to Great Basin National Park.

Guess it's on the upper end of that 20%! Fantastic video Eric. You still make some of my favorite videos to watch. I get a lot of ideas of how I want my videos to look from you. Glad you got out, showed us a trail, and I am looking forward to what day 2 of your trip consists of!

Thanks you so much Josh for your nice comments. I didn't realize I was one of your favorites and that makes me really happy. Thankfully lately I've seen a significant growth in the channel and I appreciate the fact that you have been with me since way early on. Yes luckily the rain was not horrible and I didn't get soaked or anything like that. This is an extremely underrated national park and I am more than happy to share it! Thanks for watching brother.

Such a beautiful hike in a remote, but beautiful park. We were there a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. Nice job with the video and you have a new SUB!! Those bristlecone pines are amazing. We saw this park on our journey to see all the National Parks in the lower 48 the next 2 years. Check us out sometime when you get a chance. Thanks, look forward to more of your adventures and stay in touch. John and Bev

That old car in the middle of nowhere is a trip. I didn't know that Nevada only had one national park. I've never been to this one before. I also thought that bristlecone's could only be found in Inyo valley in California. I learned something new today

Oh yeah we have actually have a lot of Bristlecone Pines at Mt Charleston right outside of Las Vegas. My friend in Colorado told me they have some there as well. Thanks you so much for watching my friend.

Beautiful! Great vistas, and amazing tree pics! Can't believe they are as old as they are. Really liked the old truck shell at the beginning, and hope you made it back without getting too wet. Thanks for sharing and have a great week 😀👍

Yes an extremely beautiful and underrated National Park out in the middle of nowhere of Nevada. This trail and this park is truly a gem 💎. The Bristlecone Pine trees are so cool looking and mind-blowingly old! I was very fortunate that had a light rain jacket that I put on right after I finished filming so I didn't get soaked. Thanks you so much for watching my friend!

Hope you didn't get soaked heading back. Would have been so cool to have made it out to the glacier, but better to turn back then get hit by lightning, smart move. Loved the beginning with the old car and bones. Another great hike Eric. You have been showcasing Nevada really well giving viewers great ideas for their future adventures.👍

No I didn't get soaked luckily because after I finished filming I put on a rain coat. Yeah the old car with the bones right as you drive into the park is really cool. I just recently read the book Shattered Air about the group of hikers that either died or got injured on top of Half Dome during a lightning storm back in the 80s. So I definitely wasn't messing around with that lol. Yes I've been really trying to show more of my state and fortunately it's been getting me a lot of local subscribers 😁. Thank you so much Lance 😀.

Good to see you were not lost and also hear you had two days hiking. Super sunny but I still saw plenty of popping colours, great scenery and those trees were amazing, so old - unbelievable. I hope you got back without being totally soaked, cheers Alan

Yeah it was a great adventure! It's just nice to see cloud cover once in awhile. In Las Vegas we average about 310 sunny days a year. I know living in England you are thinking what the hell am I complaining about 😆 🤣 . It's really crazy how old those trees are and they are also very beautiful also! Thankfully soon as I stopped filming I slipped on a raincoat and stayed pretty dry. Thanks for watching Alan!

@adventuringoutdoorswitheric 3 года назад
So if you are just hiking to the Bristlecone pine trees it's going to be a about 2.8 miles round trip and 600 feet of elevation gain. I've never visited in April and I hope it's not too snowy to do this hike or drive the road to get there. I am usually up there in the summer time or early fall. Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video 😀.

I am not 100% sure but I do doubt it because I know it snows heavily up there in the winter and early spring. Summer and fall are actually ideal time to hike at Great Basin National Park. It's one of the most beautiful places in Nevada so you do have to visit eventually. Thanks again :-)

Yes the trees are definitely out of this world! I wish I had an old gangster Al Capone car like this 🤣🤣. Looks like something they would use during the prohibition to smuggle alcohol across the country 🤣👍. Always appreciate your viewership my friend and thank you for watching.

Beautiful Hike!! some really great Bristlecone specimens out there, love the wider ones// looks equal to the CA forest, spectacular... side note that last twisty one may not be a bristlecone but those a pretty rare foxtail or something like that i think they are called. some are twisty some are not, it is like being blonde or brunette... the two grow near each other// or i could be wrong of course / super wintry by the glacier wow.

@@adventuringoutdoorswitheric i am a huge fan of the bristelcones and their neighbors pinyon pines, limber pines, junipers.. - also the high elevation trees are a lot easier to tell apart than the lower ones where there are hundreds of species all together haha i found the easy way to look like i know things, find the forest with only 10 kinds of tree haha

that was one cool hike, now did the rain last long or go away within minutes it was only a 20% chance day, that something about that old tree and I liked where you found that old car with the bones
@adventuringoutdoorswitheric
@adventuringoutdoorswitheric 4 года назад
So the rain lasted for like 15 minutes and then started up again 30 minutes later but much lighter with no thunder. I was able to do another hike right afterwards which will be my next video. Yeah the old trees are so cool and it's hard to believe the age of them. Yeah the old car with the bones is right at the entrance of the park and its really neat to see. Craig thanks again buddy 😁👍

So beautiful! We wanted to go to this National Park when we were in vegas for the first time but it was below freezing temperatures in late March! I didn't know it has a glacier or even that Nevada had one! I loved how this bristlecone tree looks at 4:20. Great trail, nice that it is shaded. Oh no, it started to rain hard! Did you have a light waterproof jacket? Thank you for making us discover your state Erik!

Yeah Great Basin is ideal to visit during the Summer and Fall. I hope you do make it out here eventually because this is a must see National Park! Yes the one Bristlecone Pine tree that you liked a lot was really twisted looking so it was very unique! Yes I did have a light raincoat that I put on right after I finished filming the outro so I didn't get soaked. Thanks for taking the time to check out this video. Enjoy the rest of your week!
