Bristol VR buses in 1990 & 2000 Ipswich Felixstowe Colchester and Bath 

A great record of those VRs in operational service - those drivers didn't hang about! I used to travel on VRs regularly in Newcastle upon Tyne and the sound of those engines and the high pitched whine at speed is very nostalgic.

When I was a kid, I was chronically obsessed with the Bristol VR. They exited me to an obsession that I cannot explain why. When we were kids, a Bristol VR series 3 took us to school, the driver allowed me to change the gears for years. For some reason I seriously can’t explain why it became an obsession, it felt that I had some weird connection to the Bristol. I love them, they sound great with the gardener engine, especially if the exhaust is blowing a nice tone. And then the gearbox whining in 4th & 5th. Such a great sound. Gutted that there’s none around anymore. I got to spend the whole 90’s on the Bristol VR.

Im not a child of the 80s or 90s unfortunately. But i applied to do volunteer work at a museum local to me, hopefully working on their privately owned busses and other vehicles

Fantastic, thanks for uploading. Worth watching to see series 1s again on top of everything else. Following on from Colchester, I think that UVX2S at the end there in Bath was originally with Eastern National? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong I've no doubt!

Those must have been some of the very last Series 1's or flat front Series 2's still in service. And I used to think the one or two L plate Series 2's they had round our way were ancient!

Poor old gearboxes took some stick, virtually every driver not bothering to lift throttle on the gear changes!

If the drivers are being hard on the gearboxes, then they are going to break, because good as the VR was, the gearboxes were not the best!

I hated these damn things. I like the RE and LH, but I couldn't VRs. Getting launched off the back seat upstairs going over a modest bump in the road didn't much endear me to them. Passenger comfort was really not a priority, the fact you couldn't lean against the side due the protruding window rubber was annoying as well. When Viscount finally ejected them for Olympians was a triumphant day.
