I was seeing this guy a while back. We used to have very deep conversations about music. He turned me on to artists that he felt were the pinnacle of music and he unfortunately believed that music had made no modern advances worth listening to beyond bands like U2. I introduced him to this song, and a few others. He wasn't impressed, and actually thought badly of my taste in music because I adore this song. He was a snob with antiquated ideas about music. I broke up with him, deleted his number, and never spoke to him again. Being free to adore this music is literally what life is all about. When your heart becomes closed to new experiences. Life becomes longer than it needs to be and no fun at all. Thanks, Briston. You're a genius.

This song is about love & betrayal as two of the same ally & enemy. He talks of his love, Rose - a symbol of the most beautiful blossom but ephemeral by nature.
