I used to live in Flogsta (the place where people scream out of the window) and yes, it is true, but as someone already said, it is in Uppsala, not Stockholm. The general rule was that you were allowed to scream for a few minutes at 10 pm to relieve stress related to studies. People didn't scream every night but it was still frequent enough that you started to use it to tell the time. Many people didn't scream because of stress though, but rather to join in on the fun. At a few occasions it lead up to a pretty impressive choir of screamers. It was great for students who had moved there to study since it provided a sense of community.

Healthcare in Sweden is "almost" free at point of use. It is free for all children. Adults have a yearly maximum of about 120 USD for treatments (matching the price of 6 doctors visits, if you go more often then that, the rest is covered) and 220 for prescription drugs. Over the counter drugs have regulated pricing, but no cost cap, so if you need anti-histamines or other drugs on a regular basis you are better off trying to get a prescription. Once you hit those numbers, the rest of the 12-month period is covered. So if you get really sick you will never pay more than about 400 USD a year for everything. And that is without insurence. Dental is not covered, although it is completely free for anyone under the age of 20. After that you can choose to have an insurence or pay as you go. I usually end up paying around 150-200 USD a year for two visits, but it is cheaper than my insurance would be.

Fun fact about the origin of “Sweden” in Swedish! (“Sverige”, if you don’t remember). Sweden, before it was one big country, was mainly a kingdom called “Svea Rike” (then naming Svealand, it was right there in the middle). If you say “Svea Rike” really fast in Swedish, it sounds a little like “Sverige”!

During WW2, Sweden didn't have all that much of an army.... So seeing that Norway and all those other countries got ran over.. what would be the best choice of action to protect the people? Yes, there is controversy in all that happened, but I remember being a kid in the 70's and 80's, and during summer this Norwegian family would come visit my grandparents... Every summer. It wasn't until later I learnt that my grandparents (And their family) had taken these people in as they fled Norway during the war.. and that friendship lasted for decades. I myself can sometimes think that sweden could have done more... but Sweden DID do a lot of covert stuff to help the allies.. There are plenty of documentaries about it. So... in all... I think Sweden went with the least bad choice. (Yes, I'm Swedish).

Lapland (Sapmi) is an area across the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Finland have opened a Santa Center in Rovaniemi (In their part of Lapland) Santa Claus in Sweden is not like in the UK. No fat man in a red suit, chimneys or raindeers. In Swdish tradition he's called Tomten and he lives with the household all year talking to the animals and watching over the family. If you have been nice to the animals and had good behaivour all year he might show up in his greybrown clothes and red hat on the 24th of December to give you a present, especially if you give him rice pudding with butter. Nowadays the tradition has been sort of fused with all the american influence of christmas movies But nevertheless a lot of Swedish homes have a miniature staue of a grey liitle Tomte somewhere in the house all year around.

Sampi (Sami land) covers the mentioned areas ...yes ....but Lapland....no.... Unlike Sweden and Finland does Norway not use the term Lapland. The term lapp is condescending. I know that Sami people in Sweden also think so ....and don't want to be labelled as lapp.....but Sweden don't care. While Norway was the first country to sign up in 1990 on ILO/UN convention 169 on minority/indigenous rights has Sweden not done so yet..... after 33 years.... ....so LKAB just can do their business as usual....

Yes, up North often the sun never sets and it's gained the name "Midnattssolens land"("The Land of the Midnight Sun"). I mean the purpose of dynamite was first and foremost to create a more safe and stable explosive to use in places like mines and such. Before you had a lot of nitroglycerine and similar explosives which could potentially explode if dropped and it constituted a massive occupational hazard that would continually claim lives. Alfred Nobel's father Immanuel experimented with nitroglycerin and in an accident it killed one of Immanuel's sons(Alfred Nobel's brother Emil) and was allegedly one of main reasons that drove Alfred to develop dynamite. In the Garbo bit his pronunciation of that place was so weird that I couldn't understand it, turns out he meant "Hötorget". Wait... Santa? In Lapland? No idea what you're on about, mate.

Snow, ice and freezing. Sunlight only up couple of hours aday in winters. But summer there is midnightsun. Daylight 22 hours . Northern light in the winter. Scandinavia is not so different from northen England. Our culture and people and system not so different from Britian. Remember the vikings conquered British land for a while long time ago. Norway has always had close connection with UK. Especially in the 2. WW and after. The norwegian king is from the british royal family. His grandmother was a british princess.

I actually have a mental picture from an old school book and that cabinet wasn't bigger then a regular night stand drawer which I guess would fit both ice and meat. I know we also cured meat with salt and put them in cool cellars that looks kind of like hobbit steadings hehe (you can see them everywhere still and for some reason they really freak me out) but I guess that was meant for warmer seasons

Not 100% sure but i believe there is a rolling 1 year cost ceiling for hospital costs and prescriptions of around £99 (1 300 SEK). This basically includes anything hospital related except for the dental category. To clarify, you will never be charged more than £99 per year for hospital expences in sweden. For dental i believe many have a £5-10 ish monthly insurance, or dental procedures can cost a couple hundred pounds (not sure if thats expensive or not comparing to other european countries or not). Keep up the reactions, love it :)

It's correct. The cost cap is very useful if you have many medical issues. You can get subsidised dental care but only if you qualify (like have a medical condition that causes dental issues). Medicines have their own cost limit, but they're on a sort of a step system. Going from 10, 20, 40, 50, 70, 90 100% discount, depending on how much you've paid so far.

Yeah, yeah.. it was fun facts on sweden.. everything was kind of truth! In anyway.. its this about taxes that nobody understand.. its teoretical taxes/nominal taxes put in spreadsheets! Those says.. 32% salary tax.. as a median nominal tax over the whole country.. its regions and comunities that decide that! But there is a lot of reductions and deductions befor one get the last tax decision! The median salary tax is actualy 27%! In my healt care region one pay 100 sek for every visit/for every night at hospital.. up to 1200 sek for a 12 months period! For prescripted medecin one pay full price for the first.. up to 2400 sek for every 12 month period! Dental care is a bit more expensive.. it kind works the same way, at first one pay full price, then when the bills start to rise, one start to pay 50%/25%/10%, for a 12 month period! And in my healt care region there is a grant of 1200 sek to use.. mainly becuse they want people to visit a dental nurse for examination and plack removal.. befor its get worse! Count 1 Dollar/Pound/Euro as 10 sek.. for conveniens, one get the cost picture!

Fun fact They sure did let them use the railroad, but also getting some real information about the nazis. That same information about their operation in Sweden/Norway was a key part of the victory since they knew every move the nazi did in northern scandinavia

whats so awesome about volvo inventing the seat belt is that they never patended it. So it would be free for every car-maker to implement and save even more lives.

11:14 Our winters are terrible. The sun doesn't go up until about 9:00-11:00 (different depending where you live) and goes down at about 14:00-15:00. At some northern places at sweden, the sun goes down at 12:00 or 13:00 if im not mistaken. At the most northern places the sun never rises or sets (as you saw in the video). Not only the sun, but also the weather. This year we had about 1 meter snow in average. The snow often got mixed with rain, which made it even more depressing because it was almost impossible to go anywhere. At the end of the winter, when almost all the snow rains away. We have "Översvämningar", which means that the land is covered with water during a longer time period. At one point, there was about 2 decimeters full of rain almost everywhere in the country.

Spot on - that the sun doesn't set certain parts of the year (in the far north) really isn't that much of a problem. Although, that the sun doesn't rise (again, in the far north) - or more generally is very dark - for like 8 months of the year is.....TAXING, and sooo bloody depressing! Oh, and also (didn't see any comment on that) - that about ppl screaming 'their lungs out'..? Maybe it's just me - but I've never heard of that, so called 'phenomena'! ;-)

Not me singing along to the background music lol, also a traditional winter day consists of the sun rising at around 12 (10 if you’re lucky) and going down at around 15-16 (3-4pm for any Americans) so around 4 hours of sunlight, that’s 20 hours of darkness every day every winter

I can't remember all the questions you wanted answered and I'm sure by this point most have been answered but: The one about health care. There is a cap of 300sek/visit (today) and as I recently went through therapy, I learned that there's an annual cap as well (1200sek at the time) which meant that when I reached that, all visits within that 1year period were free of charge
@Xpulzee
@Xpulzee 6 месяцев назад
Universal health care in sweden covers hospital bills (You have to pay 250 sek for a visit (approx 30€)) and if you have healthissues by something its covered for this sum. (it will be applicated on each visit). You will have a max cost for around 2000 sek/ year, all visits after that is covered by the healthcare. When having prescriptions you get to pay a maximum of 2000 SEK/year (unless they have changed any of this max costs), after this "roof" is hit all prescriptions are also covered by healthcare. Dental in the otherhand is expensive here. You get a fund of 35€/year and can have a maximum of 70€ saved to your account. This is primarly the fee for checking up your teeths, if you need to fix something its not too uncommon to pay around 4-6k SEK/ problem.

I live in a small town called Hässleholm in the south part of Sweden ( landscape Skåne) and in the winter , we only have about 6 hours of real daylight! That`s why so many Swedes gets depressed during wintertime, we don`t get enough sun. The weather can also change very much, one day it`s raining and the next day it can snow a lot!

What Alfred Nobel did what find a stable mix for Nitroglycerine and making it stable for use in mining operations, that's why its so dangerous to poke around old abandoned mines with dynamite, the sweating you see is the nitroglycerine leaking from the mix and makes it unstable again. This has then been taken to be more developed and use for other things like demolition and yes ofc war ;/

I have a friend that went on a hike and camped outside in the far north, they did not bring any wrist watches or phones or anything. So they had no idea what time of the day it was when they were up there. Kinda a fukt up situation when there is daylight all the time. And they had no idea if it was night or day, (this was before the time of mobile phones). Also, the guy that was part of creating candy crush lives in my hometown, great guy! he invests in the town and local companies.
