You cant really spoil art... it always looks a million time better in real life. I went to Rome, saw Berninis David sculpture. Seen it in books a million times before, I still spent over an hour watching the real thing.
Finland is full of bands, and every one of them experiences the full evolution of the sound and style a band goes through. What is popular at any point of time is a toss of the dice, something so far obscure can have a breakout hit etc. There are few bands who have a consistent and high following and they are truly cherished here.
In Sweden we learn English as is, most of us had a teacher who studied in England so... We're going to say mum, colour, proper and our dialect will either be Wisconsin (and no, I have no idea why) or some generic British dialect.
Do you realize this is about the Nova Peace Music Festival on October 7th? The original title was October Rain…Eurovision made Israel change it to Hurricane. 🇺🇸We support our ally.
that "82% willing to defend", is actually answer to: "are you willing to defend the country even if the outcome is unclear?" So we're willing to fight even when the outcome is unclear
1:45 Yeah Mad Vlad was dumb enough to try and bully another country at its border NOT to join NATO/OTAN... and forced Finland's hand into joining NATO/OTAN /smh And this is ONLY happening because nukes was in the picture according to Mad Vlad. 7:00 what you also have to remember: It's a country with around 5.6-5.7 mil people that can mobilize around 1.15 mil soldiers... (quick head math says around 1/5th of the population). 8:45 can't forget Turkey, France and Poland... Poland is actually so OP they, along side US, are one of the few nations that exceed the 2% GDP on military support 9:30 no i think its an Long gun artillery piece (sort of a towed gun like the OP WW 2 88 mm AA guns Germany had) 10:40 as @Ormathon says in another comment Sweden has JAS 39's which are to some extent better than F-35's and F-22's the US can provide.
She wasn't very good at explaining the words to be honest. I know that she probably had to give the explanations within a limited amount of time, but I still think she could have done a better job e.g. "rund under fötterna" (you have been drinking so you get "round feet" and it becomes a bit harder to keep your balance) in other words it means "tipsy"
At least 20(I think, not sure if it's remove entirely) years ago we removed the area codes, Sthlm had 08, that's nollåtta as we call them, and I still do today sometimes 🤣
First dinst happento see the 2 day cycle.. or the marrks of a stroller... as a finn, i bet, late fall when people get dosile.. dont ever believe something that has edited and redited.. talk to people.. get your own information.. HYVÄÄJUHANNUSTA!!!
well if it's good thing to learn swedish here, shouldn't it be important to learn french there. Your languages have been pretty much the same 1000 years ago...
Before Finland join nato our biggest possible problem during possible war was supply. We depends lot of ships import stuff in Finland. Now that sea is secured because everyone around it are nato countries. War takes lot of material like we have seen in Ukraine and that material eventually win the wars. Ships are best and easiest way to bring that in. Everything else we can do it on our own. Also Russians know tat we are not a threat. Im sure there would be lot of unhappy Russians if Putin decide to attack Finland. Russian people are mostly very likeable people, ofc there is some exceptions. However that fsb elite what hold power in Russia are thief gang, they are like mafia. Nobody like them, not even Russian average Joes. Russia is lot like nazi Germany was, there is not much what people can do against they goverment after situation is this bad. Fear and violence is powerful combination.
I know how hard it is to learn a new language. I have only learned indoeuropean languages so there are some similiraties but sometimes you face up with a word that you just don't get, can't relate or otherwise know....like in italian: store...and i can't remember it.
Where dragons were invented they looked like snake more than in western cultures so salmonsnake is pretty good. Imagine you see a picture of a dragon for the 1st time. *I have no word of it but let's combinate what i know...that's how it goes
I hate when they force everyone to learn swedish. Nobody inner finland never gonna need swedish language. And everyone speak english anyway. I rather would learn swahili language than swedish, its as much useless language for most than swedish is. There is abt 100 language to learn what are more usefull than swedish. But no, everyone must learn swedish because they are still rulers of Finland. It never gonna go away.
I love the expression "det ordnar sej med skridskor bara det blir is", meaning litteraly "it will fix itself with skates if only we get ice" or the slightly more brutal "det ordnar sej med begravningen bara kärringen är död", meaning "it will be all right with the funeral if only the old hag is dead". Two ways of saying "do not worry too much".
Speaking of Swedish Actors, there may be a bunch you not aware are Swedish, besides Alica whome done several big movies like mentioned below in the comments, we also have the Skarsgård family, Stellan; recently played Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune. Alexander from True Blood & Tarzan as examples, Gustav as Floki in Vikings & Bill as Pennywise & more. Peter Stormare, known for portraying Russian gansters & the Devil in Constantine. Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw in the Prometheus. One of Max Von Sydows last roles was as the Tree Eyed Raven in Games of Thrones. Joel Kinnaman as Flag in Sui*ide squad & Altered Carbon. Along with other actors like Lena Olin, Pernilla August (played Anakins mother in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones) & Dolph Lundgren. Sweden, or the Nordic in general really have exported quite a few actors from around here to the big Hollywood :)
I'd say she is too young to really know what most of these idioms mean. She gets so many of them wrong or use the wrong meaning of the word (many Swedish words have more than one meaning depending on context).
YOU PRONOUNCE THAT TOTALLY W R O N G! THE "I" SHOULD BE PRONOUNCED AS A LONG VOCAL SO IT SHOULD SOUND JAS 39 > GRIIIPEN < BECAUSE.THERE I S NO - - A DOUBLE TWO "P"! GRIPEN IS NOT A REAL BIRD IT IS A MYTHOLOGICAL ANIMAL IE A BIRD! SO SPARE US FROM THE FAULTY NAME! DAMN IT!
Also "Gå som katten kring het gröt" she actually says "Gå som katten runt het gröt" which is semantically the same thing... but not what was written on the sign. Basically roughly the difference is sort of (om)kring = "about", runt(om) = "around"
The war in Ukraine has actually proved that many of the traditional defense logics still are ok. This makes me feel safe, or at least less concerned. It's always been a question if mathematics: how much can the aggressor lose in resources in relation to the theroretical geographical gain? The worst risk, as i see it, would be fast attacks againt strategical objects. Power plants, harbours, theHelsinki region etc. Fortunately a lot of our soldiers have been trained extensively in defending urban and strategic targets.
Swedish Meatballs? Ikea förnityre? Abba? Gud vad ni svenskar verkligen har ett eveigt målbrått och tånår väx upp nån gång. Lagom förklarat, en riktigt god Midsommar önskar Storbrorsan från Öster! ❤
Many of these are idioms not slang. Bakis = should be bakfull (backdrunk ie the other side of being drunk) Fjortis = Fjorton means fourteen. Teens around this age of often obnoxoius and standoff-ish. Rund under fötterna = round under your feet (means you are drunk and a bit wobbly). Stekare = sleazy showoff. Knullrufs = fuck-fluff (messy hair after sex). Ge tillbaka för gammal ost = give back for old cheese (payback when someone has wronged you) . Den gubben går jag inte på = lit. That old man im dont believe in. (when you think someone is trying to trick you and you aint buying it). Aina = police. but thats no swedish (its turkish or something).
