Rattlesnakes assume that pose when threatened for two reasons: 1) It makes them look bigger and more intimidating. 2) It is easy to transition from a threat display to a strike from that pose, like a spring straightening out.

Me to, and that's right, and I'd be far more worried about a rattlesnake bite than the cottonmouth or copperhead. Sadly, our black bears are gone, or mostly gone, but a few still wander in from Louisiana and Mississippi. Same for mountain lions We do seem to have a ridiculous number of stinging insects, though.

Lewis, despite it's relatively small size and "cuteness", the Bobcat is actually a very dangerous predator. Not just the teeth/fangs, but it's large, very sharp claws make it an animal not to mess with. Take your average housecat, multiply it in size by 3 or 4 and give it a bad temper. It can rip a human to shreds if it feels threatened.

I was stung by a bark scorpion once. It was so, so, painful. It was hiding in a pair of my shoes, and when I picked them up, I felt a small prick on my thumb, and then a burning, tingling feeling started moving up my arm, like electricity, and my heart started beating weird and out of rhythm. I dumped my shoe out and it was a yellow scorpion. My mom drove me to the hospital and they gave me an anti-venom, and eventually the tingling in my arm went away, but I didn’t fully regain feeling in my thumb and half my hand for about 6 months

Hey Lewis, I'm in Columbus Ohio.. The most dangerous animal which may sound silly but DEER are the most dangerous animals where I live! Deer are numerous in the wooded areas of the city of Columbus. There are deer crossing warning signs also to be watchful for deer that maybe standing in the road or on the side of the road you are driving on. Deer often run across in front of your car. Deer are also hard to see because their camouflage body color blends in to the surroundings. Deer like to come out during sun rise and sun set. Deer can cost thousands of dollars of damage to your car if hit.

Forgot about them 😅. I was thinking of all the dangerous things I've seen in my life and none of them actually tried to strike or bite me. I've incountered bears, a mountain lion, rattle snakes, copperheads, cotton mouths, a thirsty sidewinder in Yuma, scorpions, and a late night hippo in Uganda. I've seen gaters and crocodiles but that was always from the safety of fencing, or a boat etc. Dang deer has jumped infront of any southern driver at least once I think and maybe 3 times if you work nights haha. I've managed to stop twice and hit only one deer. My mom, Older sisters and brother have all hit one as well, and my dad's hit 3 since he spent years stuck on 3rd shift. I don't know if it's possible to grow up driving in a southern state and never hit a deer. Grew up in North East Arkansas, mostly spread out there with farm lands and plenty of deer. I'm in Ga now and I seen a dead deer on the road once a month at least.

I live in Louisiana and have seen thousands of alligators. We also have bull sharks in the rivers and swamps , we have 48 different types of snakes, mountain lions , bobcats , black bears the spiders listed etc. . I have had a copperhead get in my lap while riding down the road in the front passenger seat. I was doing landscaping and we loaded up a tube of flower bed matting and it stuck in the work van and was coming over my right shoulder and the snake crawled out and was still in the tube and about 4 inches of his head was on my leg and I felt it crawl and I jumped up over to the driver and it fell into the floor of the van. The driver hit the ditch and we both went out the driver door into traffic. We didn't get it it went into the dash. It was wrapped around a plant two days later and it was killed . It was a large 3'6 ft copperhead which is big for a copperhead.

It's important to mention that most states have many of these creatures. Being from Idaho, we have the moose, sure, but also cougars, western diamondback rattlesnakes (only slightly smaller than their eastern cousins), black and grizzly bears, scorpions and so on. Rattlesnakes strike that pose for a number of reasons. First it keeps their body in one space, so while their focused on one threat, something can't get them from behind. By bundling up, it makes them appear larger than a simple coil for an intimidation factor. It also gives them leverage to strike, should they decide it to be necessary, over 3 feet away in a matter seconds.

We didn’t see the mama much, but when saw the cubs we knew she was nearby, but they were never really a nuisance except to our neighbors with goats, sometimes their cows. We had rattlesnakes too. Hi! I grew up in southern Arizona and rattlesnakes are pretty common. The good thing is you can normally hear them before you see them and just stay away. The best thing to do is get your dog rattlesnake trained because they can detect them from their scent, rattle, or the way they look and alert you. The dogs could always detect them before I could. This way if the rattle has been cut off or if it’s a baby and doesn’t have one you will know it’s there. Rattlesnakes also aren’t lethal to dogs and dogs recover from them in hours but none of mine were bit they were all trained to stay away but bark in the direction of the snake.

"Pretty much everyone in America has seen a snake" - I've had 3 rattlesnakes removed from my Arizona garage so far. In southern AZ, snakes are so common the local fire department has a "snake consultant" who comes to remove them--he takes them out to the desert and releases them. We in Arizona have a mammal that's never mentioned in these videos: The Jaguar. They aren't known to be breeding in the US, yet (the southwestern US used to be part of their range but they were hunted to extinction), but individuals (almost always males) periodically wander across the border and into the mountains of the southern part of the state. There is an active effort to maintain breeding populations in Mexico near the border.

Snakes stand up like that to try scaring off potential threats by making themselves appear larger. Biting in defense is the last thing a snake wants to do. The rattle is also a warning to let threats know they are about to get bitten if the snake is not left alone. If it’s rattling, it’s trying to get attention and wants you to get away from it. If it wants to bite, it’ll be stealthy and you won’t see or hear it.

For instance, in South Carolina, we have copperheads, timber rattlers, mountain lions and bears in the Upstate, but it's too cold for alligators, coral snakes, eastern diamondbacks or cotton mouths to survive this far inland; those are usually found toward the coast.

On occasion moose, mountain lions and wolves have been on my street. A friend of mine had his new truck totalled when a moose in rutt decided to mate with it.

That gator they showed for Florida was known as Tank. He died a while back but he was on my FB for a bit where the golfers and locals tracked his movements. He was definitely one of the bigger ones. Now in Fredericksburg, TX, it's known as the Brown Recluse Spider capital of the world due to the fact of all the antique shops around. They hide behind a lot of stuff out there.

The rattlesnake winds up like that same reason you'd try a boxing stance to throw a punch, (its best form) for it to shoot forward and bite. The rattle is to say "don't come any closer" a bite is why you don't come any closer.

I lived in Oklahoma for seven years. My neighbor killed a copperhead with a pitchfork. Those snakes scared me because they roamed in suburban areas. I did see the brown recluse spiders and never swam in any of the lakes because I heard of the water moccasins.

Deer ticks are everywhere in the USA. We have them here in Wisconsin. They are small once you find one remove it if a pink to red circle appears around the site of where you removed the tick appears that is a sign of possible Lymes disease. And it take about a week after the tick bite removal in order for a Lyme test to show a positive result.

Think of the snake attack pose like a compressed spring. When it chooses to launch its attack, the immediate decompression gives it remarkable height and distance. It’s also a protective stance. It prevents the threat from getting any part of its body by keep it all within fang range.

most female deer don't have antlers. it's also normal for deer to drop their antlers int he fall and regrow them in the spring. and yes, by numbers, deer are the most dangerous because they don't look both ways before they cross the road.

The most dangerous animal in Hawai'i is the SHARK🦈! Very tragically, a man was killed by a shark TODAY on the northern tip of O'ahu.😭 He was a very fit, 49 year old Hawai'ian man named Tamayo Perry. He was an experienced "Waterman", and professional surfer, and lifeguard, who has been in the ocean his whole life. We also lost 39 year old Jason Carter to a shark in Maui in January. Both of them were surfing when they were attacked.😭 R.I.P.🙏

Oh god, this is the video I thought it was. I live in Missouri. I removed a brown recluse from my bathroom at 9:30 last night. I have lived peacefully with them for several years. Missouri has black bears and at least 3 vipers. There's no way the brown recluse, a spider that has never killed anyone, is more dangerous than the rattlesnakes that live around here. Rattlesnakes like that position because the tail is free for producing the warning sound, and the head is in a perfect strike position if the warning sound is ignored. They don't usually maintain that pose for very long, but they can hold it long enough to decide whether to strike or run away. The Greenland shark is amazing. You have not been lied to.

When I lived in Hawaii, the Portuguese man o' war was just part of the beach life. Usually if you see it washed up on the shoreline, you'd know to stay out. I got stung several times. Sometimes it doesn't hurt and other times it could feel like you've been stung by a bee a hundred times when that tentacle wraps around your body. In Washington State, my roommate got bit by a brown recluse spider on his inner thigh and the sore that it left was so disgusting!

Illinois and Florida - I was a volunteer photographer for Myakka River State Park in Florida. I took pictures of water moccasins, pygmy rattle snake, alligators, etc. (I learned how to canoe with gators around me - extra incentive!) While living in Florida, I saw a bobcat, copperheads, rattlesnakes, coral snake, scorpians, brown recluse spiders, black widow spiders, sharks, man-of-wars etc. In Illinois, I've seen coyotes. On one vacation I saw black bears (mom and baby) in Tennessee. Pics are on film so I don't think I've moved them onto digital. If you love bison you should watch CrossTimbers Bison Ranch on YT. Their bison are fun to watch, especially when they have to weigh and give vaccinations! Those of us who watch all the time love Dunbar, Big Joe, and Eleanor. The ranch is in Oklahoma and he sells bison meat. I love the animals so much that I can't imagine eating them (though I do love cows and steaks). You are correct about the greenland shark. You should watch Shark Week and/or Sharkfest!

Keep in mind, these are just a list of the "most dangerous animal" in any given state. There's usually an overlap, with most states having multiple dangerous animals living in them. I'm from PA, for example. We have elk, which was mentioned, but also brown recluse, black widows, deer ticks, black bears, and at least two highly venomous snakes listed under other states. Also, yes, we (as well as many other states) have regular deer... which do cause a large number of deadly vehicular accidents, and stag hunting is promoted to keep their numbers in check.

I'm from Missouri and almost all of those animals live here. Some are more often seen than others. At 65 years old. I've always been a homebody so I've never run into them. Although there was times other people had to tell the news of their scary news while still wearing their scary face. LOL I like your cute , silly, it's a second time I've prescribed to your channel. I made a new channel since I'm having a hard time getting on my original account. But with some help I might get back on it. Always remember I always give a thumbs up.
