Our first episode with Callum from English Shooting covered the intricacies of the laws and regulations that govern firearm and shotgun ownership in the United Kingdom. But in this episode, we discuss the growing sport of Practical Shooting. Essentially based on Three Gun, or Two Gun in the United States, the sport is appealing to British shooters for a number of reasons, one of which is that it offers a diverse and changing environment for shooters to compete in, unlike anything that has been available before.
Apart from the pistol rifle, and the restrictions on semi-auto centerfire rifles, the equipment and firearms are virtually identical to what American shooters would be used to in competing through the various action match sports we have available to us today. Although the British shooters are much more limited than their U.S. counterparts are, they have still managed to build up a passionate community that is devoted to safety, accuracy, and passing on the sport of competitive shooting.

Its not really a positive, when we cant use them for Self defence, and on top of that have to pay for the privilege just to have a license to own one, UK Law sucks, most nanny state on earth I'm fed up of it, I was born an English man, but it seems only overseas I'm more free then here in certain things, In America I can shoot, In the Med I can drive a boat with no license, and guess what no harm has come from that, its all about knowing what is safe, and being a responsible person, there is no need for some nanny state to tell us what we can and cannot buy, even if it was legal, not everyone has to buy one, but don't tell us we cant own them when we are law abiding.. its ridiculous.. I'm so glad America is a free country.

Is no one else going to comment on how the UK's clubs have training days for newbies? That's the single most interesting part of this video (for me, anyway). That would go over extremely well here in The States.

It's nice to see this going on in the UK. I for one truly thought the vast majority of firearms were in fact banned in the UK. I realize that handguns and centerfire rifles are banned but at least there are some options available. I hope that in the future, folks in the UK are able to regain access to the banned firearms. -Jen

Centrefire rifles are not banned in the UK but thank you for your support. The longest range at Bisley is 1200 yards: nra.org.uk/learn-to-shoot/match-rifle/. I think the Fifty Calibre Shooters Association UK has access to a range of up to 3200 yards.

Incorrect information regarding handguns in UK from this channel. There is a difference between GB and UK. Handguns are section 5 in Great Britain but completely legal to posess in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom.

If I was still in the Philippines, I would've loved to have contribute to TFB TV. We have a huge gun culture back home and I've owned and fired several guns that you can't get here in the US. Unfortunately I live in the most anti-2A city in the country so all I have to contribute is how the terrible treatment legal gun owners will receive here in NYC.

Our laws here don't even allow us anything as tame as pepper spray, or rather we aren't allowed any tool or weapon for self-defense. (Using self defense as justification for carrying anything slightly deadlier than a piece of tissue paper is enough to land you with a police record.)

SexyCheeze - Maybe, maybe not. You'd have your day in court and your fate would be decided by others. Using a firearm to shoot a home invader would violate the license conditions, so you'd lose your guns at minimum.

@@NITROJACKALOPE well, we would need the NRA to stop sucking off the central government and actually take them to the high court on that ! however since our consitution is a shitty set up, that unlike most countries, all it takes is a simple majority to remove an article in the bill of rights ! case in point the right to jury trial was removed by the jurys acts ! although we still have jury trials for indictable offences or cimes that are charged as indictable offences but not for summary offences charges

fun fact, in Turkey you can ONLY own pistols and shotguns. apart from that, bolt action rifles can be owned but it's super difficult and rare because you can't shoot them anywhere. As far as I know there isn't a single rifle range in the country.

Our friends across the pond need their own Second Amendment so that all citizens can defend themselves! The UK needs to put their burdensome and asinine laws and regulations into the shredder. America has its own burdensome and asinine laws and regulations (NFA of 1934, 1986 MG ban, importation bans) that need to be put down the shredder as well!

I disagree with this, I don't think we should be aloud to own anything bigger or own a pistol, gun crime at the min is fairly low, yes there are still many cases but if u compare that to when we were aloud to own pistols it has decreased massively due to there not being as many around for illegal activitys

That said anyone who was a collector before the ban is allowed to keep their licensed guns. And due to some weird loophole if its an antique or an example of significant technological innovation in firearms its exempt from the ban. I think the 1911 and maybe the first polymer frame glock are candidates, but I think these exemptions are granted on a case by case basis.

The "long barrel" pistol is the epitome of stupidity of UK gun legislation. Somehow adding a coat hanger to the grip and extending the barrel by 6 inches makes it less dangerous than a regular pistol. Funny how gun crime rose after the ban in 1997 and it was only after the police force almost doubled in size that it began to decrease.

You would have a hell of a time drawing that monster out of a holster. In Australia we used to have a short barrel match, but it got hit on the head our minimum barrel length is four inches 150mm. At the range I shoot at maximum calibre for centre fire pistol is 9mm .38 cal 45 cal for black powder. If you shoot metallic silhouette you can have a .45 cal. Also clubs that shoot western action can have the old colt .45 auto for a certain match (wild bunch) The only shot gun you can have with a large capacity magazine is a bolt action gun, pump and autos have a crimped mag and you need a medical reason to have them.

Practical shooting has been growing slowly in the UK since @2000. Callum wouldn't know this as he was only about 10 years old then! It's fair to say that it has only really taken off in the last 5 years. At the moment most matches are single type, ie mini-rifle (.22 semi-auto), LBF (.22 semi-auto LBP or pistol calibre LBR's), and finally PSG. Most 2-gun matches are a mix of one or other .22 type, plus shotgun. More and more people are getting LBPs though, and the demand for 2-gun is growing with several UK clubs holding regular events. Oh, and most of the participants are the older guys that Callum claims don't like them! Thankfully there are some very promising younger shooters too, who are undoubtedly the future of the sport but they are still way outnumbered by the old guys. When referring to the more sedate rifle shooters, they have used footage from a Civilian Service Rifle match which is actually the most dynamic rifle shooting going in Europe, with distances shot from 600yds all the way down to 25 yds, multi-position, timed targets and run downs of 100yds at a time. This pair should know that as they did a poorly presented video on the discipline quite recently! Come on guys, your hearts may be in the right place, but do your research! Carry on.

Excellent video Mles... did you manage to speak to other shooters at Bisly and what was you over all view of British shooting sports although not allowed handguns and full bore centre fire rifles, but hopefully you would have seen a healthy tradition for bolt action shooting remains amongst many other platforms of sport shooting! What would be good is if you could inform your American audience as to why rifle and pistol bans came into place and why its still a hot topic of debate for shooters and the misinformation that is put out by the media and politicians who are after viewrs and polltcians who are just jumping on the band wagon as they dont know the facts and just become sheep !! Also what was your view of Bisley shooting camp and its history.. hopefully you managed to take a tour and see the many clubs based there especially the armed forces who all have strong tradition of shooting at Bisley!

I'm from the Midlands, and I know how you feel, place feels like a sinking ship, and I hate how we live in a nanny state, nobody has any respect anymore, our justice system seems soft, and crime rates are increasing, and we have nothing to fight back against radical jihadists with, its funny how people in the UK think we are this green and pleasant land and a utopia, its anything but, all somebody needs to do is a bit of travelling, and when places that used to have a bit of rep in parts, don't seem as bad as where you come from, that's saying something, Maybe its where I'm from in the Midlands, but here it barely feels like England, Ideally I would not like to stay here long term, If I could help it, id move. Give you an example of how crazy it can be, yesterday in my city, some mad man going around with Machete, two unarmed cops give chase, the news highlights the fact they were ''unarmed'' but you know what, those cops were very lucky, because if the guy never ran away from them, and actually swung for them with that thing, they could have been dead.. and many others could have died, If the cop was armed, It would have been better for everybody.

America wouldn't have the highest prison population per 100,000 people in the world if it really was the 'land of the free'... It's ups and downs really like every country, there's plenty of American laws that are complete bullshit. I've never had any issue living here and i'm a gun owner, i'm anti immigration, right wing and very outspoken and the police have never bothered me even when i've called out their bullshit to their face

I'd love to see this kind of video for other nations as well. I think we underestimate just how many people have an interest in firearms. I used to be super anti-gun a couple of years back, but, now I back gun rights for law biding citizens 100%. I also get my fix through third party manufacturers that make guns for Lego minifigures. There's a whole slew of things out there to customize you minifigures with.

The only mass shootings We've ever had in the UK... Were by law abiding citizens, using guns they legally owned. They simply went mental one day. So now, law abiding citizens suffer with additional controls because noone wants another law abiding citizen shooting up a school or the Lake District again, or if it does happen, they want to limit the scope of the damage.

*_Shocking that Callum from English Shooting (the British guy in the video) has had all his firearms certificates revoked and had to hand in all his guns all because of a video the police deemed "controversial". It was a video about self defence after the Paris Terrorist attacks I believe. The police branded him an "extremist". Absolute disgrace... You guys over there in states like California think you have it bad, this is the kind of BS we have to deal with over here in the UK. It's bad enough that we are restricted to the kind of clown guns you see in this video, but the police can revoke all your firearm and shotgun certificates simply because they didn't like a RU-vid video you made!!_*

In order to shoot competition: Britain: Take a 1 year training course. Have supervised practice runs. Have a 'sober chap' interview. Fill out all of the necessary paperwork. America: Walk up to the line.

I'm contacting my conservative MP in Folkstone and Hythe to fight to allow a limited relaxation to allow 2 semi automatic calibers back into the section 1 firearms category being the 5.56X45mm NATO and the 7.39X39mm and two other main popular pistol calibers that the majority of pistols use being the 9mm and .45acp; I am yet to receive word of what he thinks and hopefully what he'll do! SO YOU MUST DO THE SAME IN YOUR COUNTY IF YOU WANT YOUR GUN LAWS BACK TO WHERE THEY SHOULD BE AS YOU CAN'T RELY ON ANYONE ELSE DO IT FOR YOU AS THIS IS WHY WE ONLY HAVE .22LR FOR THE SEMIAUTOMATIC CATORGORY OF FIREARMS!

how is this possible in the uk im from the uk the guns laws are extreme and super strict i dont know any body who has fac certificate i only know off farmers with shotguns so how can an ordinary member of the public get involved with this activity....it seems like it is lies they never let this be for ordinary ordinary people to try if it were possible id be first in the queue front of the line..britain has high statistics of knife crime so i cant see this being allowed to be promoted to people like me it will be secret whispers and you will see farmers there and fisherman and people from highlands of.scotland who owns castles and does pheseant shooting on his own land you will never see someone like me allowed to try this it pisses me off badly.

Lord Bryant honestly anywhere with freedom in gun laws, california is so nice in ny opinion but I would't live there cause of the gun control, but there are a lot of other places like texas, nevada, georgia, etc... with good gun laws and look like nice places to live as well (for what i've seen so far).

Airsoft.....well it does not really count, it's practicality the same as really nice nerf guns. I get the price difference is huge and the fact Airsoft has no legal restrictions at all, but still, there is a diffrence when you raise a rifle and it goes bang instead of puff as an aircanister goes off.

I'm not joking. It's only a small circle of guys but we're getting bigger! Unfortunately this country is afraid of armed citizens, and we can barley defend ourselves legally it disgusting. And there are legal restrictions on Airsoft guns. Recently we've had a power cap imposed on all Airsoft rifles because they're scared we're going to hold up banks with toys and cause a bit of bruising if everything goes south

Is it coincidence that this is published just one day after the EU Gun Ban was approved? I like that they are trying to make the most out of their stupid gun laws and still try to enjoy their shooting hobby. But that long pistol thingy, bolt action AR, 22LR only etc. ... that is just ridiculous.

It would be great to see Britons once again trusted to own 'proper' guns. The restrictions put upon law abiding owners have not of course affected the armed criminals who, I believe, are at an all-time high. Perhaps Brexit will result in a change of attitude.... who knows? It's sad to see my fellow countrymen (I grew up in London but have lived here since 1959) having to shoot under such restrictions. It makes me realise that we are quite fortunate in New Zealand, where we moan about the special licenses required to own an AR15 or AK47/74 rifle or a semi-auto pistol....... Could be worse eh? Good luck guys, and keep that lead flying downrange......

The only mass shootings we've ever had in the UK have involved law abiding citizens going off the rails and using their legally owned and licenced firearms to kill a bunch of folk. So sadly, now the rest of us law abiding citizens have extra controls to deal with so that if one of us does the same as has happened 3 times in the past... We can't do as much damage as quickly. The laws aren't to prevent criminals shooting at each other (police deaths due to gunfire are very rare in the UK), They're limiting distribution of firearms that could lead to mass shooting events.

geezerp1982 no it isn’t. Hungerford: at least one of the shooters had an FAC. Dunblane: FAC owner shot up a school. Resulted in the knee jerk handgun ban. Cumbria shootings: FAC owner used his licenced 22 rifle and a shotgun to go on a bit of a killing spree.
