The UKPSA in partnership with NITSA (Northern Ireland Target Sports Association) have started running fullbore handgun trips within the UK! Allowing more mainland UKPSA members the chance to compete on an international level.

Had all my handguns stolen by the Govt in 97. Knew about cartridge pistol shooting in NI via a magazine article then. Great to see you enjoying yourself there. Can’t bring myself to visit the clubs there.

Man, makes me grateful to live in the US. I drive 20 minutes and pay $20 (~£16) to shoot USPSA matches here. Glad you have a way of getting it done in the UK though.

That does look amazing! I never knew the UKPSA sponsored this, it is a good way from people from the part of the UK that aren't usually allowed to shoot handguns to give the sport of dynamic handgun shooting a go. It is awesome!

It's absolutely rubbish ...UK laws.. I shoot 9mm all over SE asia in IPSC, it is a sport , a talented sport, yet I cant do it back home in the UK , I should not have to travel for the sport

@Kevin the Duck I do wish you well. But if I'm being honest, you're better off forming a militia with close friends and family, and being very discreet about it. No talk about it online, only face to face. Have a bunker on some land or somewhere hidden, store guns and ammo in them.

@Oliver Cheney Yeah but you don't really need ar15 to defend your home. That's just to much. In France we can have handguns and modified ar15 guns (semi automatic only) But since there was a legally armed guy that killed two people recently I'm scared they put even structer gun laws. But Uk laws are creazy. In the UK you can't even defend yourself on the street, even in France if you don't have a gun licence you can for self defense have rubber bullet guns, brass knucles, taser, pepper spray etc. In the UK you can do jail for pepper spray... it's absolutely ridiculous!

i had pistols before the ban came in , i had a cz 9 mm and a smith and Wesson 586 in 357 magnum i used it at bureghle marsh gun club near skegness , great fun and missed it for years

If you can't you should just head over on your own. You'll be made to feel welcome, there are plenty of people who join on their own without knowing any other member and don't take long fitting in.

We can either sit around complaining how rubbish it is that we can't own handguns here or make the best of what we can. The main plan is to shoot IPSC matches internationally and whilst I won't be able to visit NITSA as much as I'd like to train, I'm going to be able to visit NITSA a lot more than America.

I hear you. Damm shame the govt decided to blame all handgun owners for the tragedy in 97'. IPSC was developing rapidly in the UK when the ban hammer got dropped.

So in northern ireland if you have a firearms certificate you can buy a handgun from a gun store and keep it at home or are all handguns kept there at the range?

In NI handguns are no different than rifles or shotguns, you're free to keep them all at home.

please tell us more about the Airsoft course, which makes it possible to do the full bore handgun course in Northern Ireland.

Strictly speaking it's an Action Air course, bit of a slip of the tounge on my part there. You can do the Action Air course in the UK, it's basically the fullbore course will airsoft pistols. It qualifies you to be able to shoot Action Air matches in the UK. Once you've obtained that you only need an assessment with a fullbore handgun to get your fullbore hand gun competition licenses, instead of doing a whole course all over again. It's possible because handguns are legal in NI, and people from England can shoot them under the club exemption.

Brill, the best thing is to join the UKPSA and that will give you access to NITSA. Contact handgun@ukpsa.org to book on the next trip over there. Blue Fieldsports can also help arrange a visit so please call on 01489 858 133 if you need any help 🙂

EnglishShooting great Callum thank you so much for your help I did go to the UKPSA website to do this but the site is under maintenance at present. Travelling wise I have family that live 20 mins from stanstead airport so I can arrange to stay there before travelling 👌oh and do you need to hold a FAC ? I have a shotgun certificate but not a sec.1 FAC.anymore.

Out of the whole UK which has the best gun laws I believe Jersey is the best, and I want to move there but I don’t know how and if I did could I apply for a FAC and buy handguns there

Just spoke to Jim bowman at NITSA he very kindly rang me, he suggested I have to join the club ? But I would only be able to get over max twice a year, I thought you only had to join UKPSA to get access to the facilities. Thanks.

You can join NITSA and use it through membership but it's not required to use it through the UKPSA, you will have to pay a range fee as a non member though.

think it's time i joined up to the UKPSA then... still a pricey trip though for something I should be able to do at my local range here on the mainland. All they have to do is allow a watered down version of Sec 5 authority for anyone holding an accredited competition licence and watch all that tax revenue flood in... :)

It's possible but it will be a slow growth. The more people take advantage of trips like this and start competing on an international level the better the chance will be. They already give out section 5 authority for Olympic shooters and we're hoping that it can be extended to IPSC shooters as well.

ok so not wanting to diss this project BUT it's all well & good being a Ukpsa member & go over & bang away …….BUT what if you then want to attend a match in Prague or France or any where outside that range. You hit a big brick wall by no handgun will be available for you to match use. NRA were doing a similar deal with a nice range in Jersey but that never came to much.

I believe that's an issue being looked at. For the moment it will require hospitality at any range holding IPSC matches. There are a number of UK shooters competing on the international circuit so there must be a way to do it.

Most rages have a supply of club guns, so you can always pick up a Glock for competition use.

You don't need an FAC to visit NITSA with the UKPSA, just need to be a UKPSA member :-)

It seems after joining the site, becoming a member for a total beginner without any shooting experience is a non starter, don’t hold any of the certificates that’s needed to join, I’ll have to join a shooting club, been saying I’ll do that for 2yrs now, yep still haven’t joined, clay shooting doesn’t do it for me, oh well, never mind

We have long barrel pistols and action air, it's not quite the same but allows some level of practice

There is not that much terrorism now. Violent crime is a lot higher on London that it is in NI. I'm 30 years no one was murdered with a legally held firearm which shows how pointless the laws are in the first place. Unlike Scotland the Psni actually do perform the background checks you pay them for including checking your medical record.
