If I recall correctly, the 30 people that died from the propellers went into a lifeboat and went into the water prematurely, not like what was shown in the movie. The captain was trying to get to the shores as fast as he could which if you went into the water during that time, you could get sucked into the propellers but realizing that the boat was sinking and bringing more water in, he told his crew to stop the engines and abandoned ship, which is why the remaining passengers survived. Edit: I put "pillars" instead of the correct term "propellers", so thanks for pointing that one, much appreciated!

The acting & writing were great. A good story. Though the Britannic actual hit a mine that had been laid by a German submarine just the day before. Everyone else, including Miss Jessop, survived.

Well they did change the cause of the sinking purely for the story. But the movie has several inaccuracies besides what you mentioned. The time of the sinking, the side the ship takes the damage, the people aboard (no children were on board), and the attack by the German U-Boat earlier in the movie. It's such a shame that Britannic never got the chance to live up to her true potential. Thankfully, the oldest sister of the three Olympic class liners lived a long and prosperous life and actually earned the title "unsinkable" and for good reason, too. It's such a shame, though, that the Olympic was scrapped. If you're like me and your fond of old ocean liners and ships, ESPECIALLY Titanic and her sisters, there's a heartbreaking photo of Olympic's scrapping where they're actually breaking down the grand staircase that really hits hard. Obviously, this movie is of Britannic and I veered off from what I originally planned to comment, but it's impossible to think of her without thinking of her two older sister ships. I think, had she not become a hospital ship during World War 1, she would have gone on to live a fantastic life and it's really unfortunate that she wasn't given that chance. For anyone who has never seen what Britannic's forward grand staircase looked like in comparison with Olympic or Titanic, the developers of "Titanic: Honor and Glory" made a similar (but smaller) demo featuring the Britannic (Britannic: Patroness of the Mediterranean) and the dark, rich, beautiful colors were very unexpected; I highly suggest anyone who hasn't seen it, take a look for themselves because it's honestly spectacular and somewhat backs up my "wasted potential" comment.

That's because it's not a true account of the sinking. The Britannic founder because it hit a mine. They could have made the movie by detailing the story of Violet Jessop. Scott landing in a Messerschmitt Bf 109 with Spanish markings at the beginning to Scott finding the bomb just as it goes off, it's quite a ride. Okay, the Bf-109 didn't fly in combat in Spain until 1937, but there were German warplanes fighting for Franco in Spain in 1936. @AndyHappyGuy
@AndyHappyGuy Год назад
@@OlegKhorkov there is an answer to this. When the mine hit, the watertight doors in that area were jammed by the shock of the explosion, and they were left open. This doomed the ship. Since Britannic was designed for transatlantic voyages in the North Atlantic, the inside of the ship was very hot, and many of the crew left portholes open to help ventilate the ship. These portholes, coupled with the fact that Britannic continued to move after the explosion, brought lots of water in and accelerated the sinking.

The 2000 film "Britannic," directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith, is a fictionalized portrayal of the sinking of the RMS Britannic during World War I. While loosely based on historical events, the movie contains several significant inaccuracies. It depicts the sinking caused by an underwater mine explosion, which differs from the actual incident where the ship hit a mine. The film also distorts the timeline, presenting the sinking of the Britannic as occurring before the Titanic's sinking. Furthermore, it misrepresents the role of the Red Cross, fictionalizes characters and their actions, inaccurately portrays the ship's size and design, and lacks proper historical context. As is common in historical films, "Britannic" prioritizes storytelling and dramatic effect over strict adherence to historical facts, making it a work of fiction rather than a historically accurate depiction.

@@dasboot5903 you say "documentary film" like this film only got minor things wrong. This movie literally gets every part of Britannic's story wrong. The timings of every key event, like the departure, the storm, and the sinking are hours off from when they actually happened. The plot makes no sense at all, they literally had a U-boat try to shoot down a hospital ship (which would've been a war crime and the Germans wouldn't dare do such a thing for no reason), and they had a German spy sinking the ship with a single Molotov cocktail (and blowing up the wrong part of the ship) when Britannic hit a sea mine in reality. I understand these characters are fictitious, but they literally don't make sense at all. At least Jack and Rose's story in Titanic made sense in that timeframe although they were fictional. The worst thing they did was depicting the deaths of the 30 people who did actually die on Britannic. They showed them being pulled into a propeller... and they show the WRONG PROPELLER. Absolutely zero respect for the people who died that morning. If they couldn't even get that right, then there's absolutely no more hope for the rest of the movie. Very clearly just a cheap cash grab wanting to milk the popularity of the 1997 Titanic film. 0 respect for survivors and victims and completely inaccurate.

Ignoring how the cgi is bad and how inaccurate it is, this is actually a good movie in my opinion and it was an enjoyable viewing. Some issues I had was the sinking, they edited it horribly, like how it lists and then in the next shot is titanicing again, but also I dislike how it doesn’t hit a mine, a bottle in the coal bunker explodes. I unlike others, did not care about them reusing the same background for any scene on deck and I like the spy story and the love story. I really like the fact that she was on the titanic which is a reference to Jessope and how it gave her PTSD as it probably did to people on board, I LOVE the scene where she has a Panic attack when getting on the lifeboat as Titanic survivors probably did when sailing, but I think this could have been way better as a Lusitania movie.

Do not EVER call a ship unsinkable. To prove this is the RMS Titanic, German Battleship Bismarck, IJN Yamato, etc. And the Britannic was never considered the largest ships in the world; in fact she was the only in her class not to hold that title.
@Alpha_627
@Alpha_627 Год назад
Also that fictional British warship looks like a late 1800’s American vessel and looks like an early battleship or armored cruiser, neither of which carried depth charges and were very slow. Also also why are there children on board a hospital ship that is meant to serve injured soldiers and service men injured during the war. This fact also means when the U-Boat fired upon her, they were committing a War Crime by breaking one of the laws set by the Geneva Convention. There were also no spies or whatever on board, nor were there any munitions, the famous liner correctly suspected of this is the RMS Lusitania. That ship was sunk by a U-Boat; the U-20 looked like the sub in this film.
