1/3 I remember in 1978 being a small boy (about 6) at a air show. We were standing as close to the runway as permitted. At that age Concorde was stuff every little boy dreamed of. We all wanted to grow up and be a Concorde pilot. Sitting on my dads shoulders i remember seeing her start the take off run, getting faster and closer to us with every second. Overwhelmed with excitement, pulse racing and fixated in magical wonder as she rotated right level of us. ......

Yes it can taxi, but with the fuel consumption it is much cheaper to be towed to position.

I would have loved to have flown on and experienced this Aircraft!

An airplane that never will be replace it, never forgot it and the only civil loved aircraft that fly inside our heart for more of two decades!, more important; never had mechanical fealure, the unique and only tragedy was caused by another airplane and the goverment that put the final mortal death to it, always in my memories; from Puerto Rico.

No, not because it crashed at all - they spent a lot of money on an extensive successful return-to-service modification plan after the crash. The downturn in premium transatlantic business travel after 9/11 was the main reason, particularly fro Air France. BA may have got through that, but Airbus' withdrawal of the type certificate was the nail in the coffin.

why just one crash then its out of service? how many times have boeings crashed? or dc-9s? but they are still in busness!

I would have expected a 2 hour wait for concorde to get on the other side of the road. Still it is the fastest supersonic jet in the world.

You know what...my two greatest ambitions in life were: 1.) To meet Princess Diana in real life and 2.) Fly on Concorde. Sadly, those two dreams will never, ever come true for me now.

Remember when we were lucky enough to get stopped by it's crossing I'd stick my head out the sunroof screaming "Concorde" ha!

I remember giving way to a Concorde at this very spot in the 90s. A real honour and not a waste of time at all. I don’t remember the tug though, I am probably mis remembering as I was so fixated with the majesty of the aeroplane.

3/3 ...interest and it made me feel a little sad for them. They were just looking at a lifeless exhibit and I thought...your never going to see it alive, hear that noise, feel that vibration or experience for yourselves what it was that blew apart the mind of that little 6 year old boy all those years ago. Sod the expense of it. Few thing have captured the imagination like this aircraft. There were other options on the table that would have kept this dream alive. Instead they let it die.

Well the crash was because the tyre burst on take off and a large piece hit the fuel tank in simple terms so alot of money had to be done on basically redesigning the plane such as making it have thicker tyres stronger fuel tanks e.t.c. and it got to the stage of being far too expensive to maintain as passenger numbers were falluing aswell.

2 of them ... since forgot the tail numbers had them shortened by 6 inches perminantly for storage concerns its sad because its denied flight basically, like what you do to a bird ... yes ok exaggeration, but it probably deserves it

Anyone else spotted the registration code for the aircraft? Pity BA may not be with us much longer! (Just like the registration code!) I suspect someone with the initials RB is arranging finance to buy BA out!

i wish this was still in service.i could not imagine being on a plane for over 10 hours to get somewhere when there was once a plane that could get you there in about 3..maybe one day it will be back in service and i will get to go to london...

2/3 .....The noise was defining. I was yelling out but could not hear my voice. The air shook and the vibration went right through my body down to the bone. Memories of that childhood moment and the excitement it gave me has stayed with me always. Last year i was at Duxford looking at Concorde. Not far from me there was a father with a couple of kids about the age i was back in 1978. They were looking with.....
