Just shows you that British Army trades are transferable all over the world. The UK should seriously look at the X95 Tavor for a service rifle. Utterly reliable, reasonable accuracy, good trigger and great ergonomics. Also, not overly expensive. IWI would even license local UK production.

So could you make a video differentiating the different special forces units and their roles on the battlefield ? Like are royal marines considered as a special forces unit and the royal marine commandos are even more special , then above them the SBS , is even more elite force ? Also whats the difference between commandos and the SAS/SBS , like the differences in the types of missions they do.

Much of this video is based around 148 bty, the specialist bty within 29 Cdo. 29 Cdo as a Regiment isn't tri service, it's 148 bty that is tri service, this is because of the cross section of work that we do, firing naval fire from ships, fast air etc, hence we make use of all skill sets. The reason for the blacked out faces is because many of the blokes will go on and attempt selection for SF. Also, Marines are not SF. In most countries around the world, "Commando" does mean SF, but here in blighty, our humble approach is just that of "Elite" ... not special. The all arms Commando course isn't the "Army version" nor is it a "condensed version" it's actually the last two months that the Marine recruits do, in terms of intensity, with the tests at the end, so for the recruits, fresh from civvy St, they have to learn everything from ironing to polishing their boots, let alone weapon handling and building fitness, the Army lads are already trained soldiers, hence they're only required to do the "Commando phase" of training that recruits do, The Royal Marines set the syllabus for the AACC, so they're happy with the end result. 👍148 bty also run their own selection course within the Regiment, which includes the Recce Leaders course, which is a block of training taken from the Royal Marines ML selection course, on completion of all this, 148 work alongside the Recce troop from 24 Commando Engineers and the Marines from Brigade Patrol Troop ... all these three elements make up the recce element for the Brigade, it used to be the BRF but now its morphed into the SRS

Back in 1984, when I joined the Royal Artillery this was the intended next step for me, then I discovered that you wouldn't be based in Germany. The lure of tax free cars and petrol, drink and chatting up the fraulines was a much stronger force! Most of my closest mates during basic went on to either 7RHA or 29 Commando. I ended up in Recce and had a pretty decent time with my travels. Coincidentally, my GF's father (at that time) was a retired captain from 29.

Hi Matsimus, It was interesting to hear that the RAF Regiment are able to bring their skills set to 29 Commando Gunners, as I have met some of the RAF Regiment guys whilst I was on a summer camp with the Air Cadets back in 2006. They are cracking individuals, supremely fit and robust, whilst being able to conduct immaculate ceremonial drill. I think they would be a great asset to comprise more of 16 Air Assault aswell. Excellent video and It would great if you were able to do a video on the RAF Regiment and there Force Protection Role etc.

Great video again mate. But the Royal Marines do take boats out. It’s called the LC or Landing Craft specialisation. They are the ship to shore connection for 3 Cdo Bde. The Royal Navy dude is primarily an engineer and then a coxswain. Both equally important but as The RN hold the line on marine engineering, he is probably the most qualified for the job. Many marine engineers are Cdo trained and work alongside the RM & army Cdo’s 👍

They must be very highly specialised. Which is basically to say, its easier to train a an artillery soldier to be a commando than visa versa. Same must be true for... is 59 Commando? Engineers?

JTACs have saved a a lot of coalition lives.

JTACs aren’t JFOs. Joint Fires Observers (FOOs) control and coordinate indirect fires including artillery, mortar, naval surface fires and air. A Joint Terminal Attack Controller is a person (ofter a member of the Joint Fire Team (JFT/FST/FO PARTY) who is qualified and equipped to control close air support only.

Royal Marines Commandos and All Arms Commando. Army lads can do the All arms course. Ever since my grandad showed me a training video from the 90s of the Green Berets, it's something I really wish Ide done. P coy never interested me but that Green Beret.....

I think the USMC should transition the M777 howitzers to the M119 Light Howitzer. Sure, it might be less powerful and not shoot as far, but the M119 is MUCH easier to transport than the M77- to include getting them on and off ships- and it is faster to emplace and displace. You could use the osprey to carry an M119, a JLTV to tow it, and you could fit more of them on ship or use the extra room for something else. I think the tradeoff would be worth it when combined with the USMC's focus on distributed operations and the invention of rocket propelled artillery ammunition. Light and fast.

so can you do royal marines basic training, and then join 29 commando as a royal marine and do all this cool shit? or is it the army side which do all the main, parachuting and havoc causing, and if so what army regiment do you join to be able to be a commando gunner?

So the Royal Marines is a genuine special forces unit than USMC? Sorry if I ask. I sometimes confuse whether commando is under special forces not regular.

Have you done your Jump course? Or does that come later down the pipeline? Also, do you think you'll ever join the Raptor family or are you going to stay as a FO? If you do end up going Raptor you could end up getting a load of attached taskings with CANSOF if you're a turned on troop.
