Just to let you know, the main man in the video is my dad. He’s alive and kicking and has two children after serving in the army as a commissioned officer, it’s nice to know that years later people still enjoy the video!
Is it true that the British government was upset about the video? I heard the reason was it kept crashing servers all over Whitehall because EVERYONE kept downloading it...
There is ny dad at 1:45 in the green towel with shaving foam. Passed away 5 months ago from terminal cancer. Always watch this video to remember any times he was well. ❤
It is not only Brit troops, you could say this about any army in a war tbh. Even the german soldiers (the ones that actuall fought, not the cowards that commanded them) saw a lot of bad stuff. What this video really tells about is actually using the time you are not on a patrol or lookout to relax and get you psychologic system back into shape. No matter what, shooting and/or killing someone is a traumatic experience for most people, even though they might have been about to shoot you or your squadmate you know better than your wive for 10+ years.
@@3DRiley_ she isn't saying that, all she is saying is good on the lads to make light heart fun in a viscous warzone, to be fair the brits are fearless, they get on with it, poorly equipped and poorly led, well done boys, that war was a waste and God knows what those boys and girls experienced and that goes for all nations involved
@Alex Nielson The Christmas Truce is a nice story, but has it's criticisms like most historic events. There's a podcast on Skeptoid about it, but I can't remember anything relevant.
@@Competitive_Antagonist from what I've read it wasnt a universal cease fire. Only certain already quiet sections of the front did it. There were numerous incidents in which those trying to come out of their trenches were fired on by the other side and even officers shooting their own troops for disobeying orders. The French were so concerned about getting their already demoralised troops to fight that they laid artillery barrages on own sections of the line to keep them in the trenches. So its lovely story but it was still a horrible war and many soldiers died on that day whilst others were able to grab a few precious moments to regain some peace amongst the insanity.
To think these soldiers went out into the dust, and obliterated thousands of innocent children at the drop of a hat for a pay check..May you be haunted forever and a day..
I was saddened to hear that the guy on the left a 1:28 died in service of his country. May I pass on my condolences to his family if they see this and just say your son will always be remembered because of what he did and by this video. All the guys and gals who serve out there far from home are heroes to us back in Britain, never forget that guys.
Sharron Mimouni just like to say, the lead is my dad. He’s currently in the shed fixing a plug and apart from a long and shabby haircut he’s alive and well. Thanks for your concern! He served for years as a commissioned officer but nice to know people are still watching this video!
Tell your dad from a vet who served over several times, there how much we appreciate the humor and how professional this video was at the time with ancient technology! I watched this early vid EVERY time I got redeployed to the hell hole! lol Thank you dragoons!
God Bless our our fellow warriors the Brits! And thank God all of our normal forces out of Iraq. Best wishes to the elite Special Operations Forces (SOF) who have recently re-entered for special purposes. God Bless you guys!
It is October 2020 and I watch it every now and then. Love it! Especially as we are coming up to Remembrance Day, these guys were doing a tough job and still having fun.
Close. The demand was so great that it crashed the defense departments servers. All they did was simply transfer the video to RU-vid. That solved the problem!
THANKYOU GENTLEMEN :FOR SHOWING THE WORLD,YOU ARE, OF COURSE OUR SOLDIERS AND ALWAYS GENTLEMEN.MAY YOU STAY FOREVER HAPPY, HEALTHY,AND HERALD.I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE YOU . YOU ARE MY BROTHERS AND ALWAYS WILL BE.GOD BLESS .FROM ME TO YOU.THEREASA BARRY.X XXX .
Best of luck over there lads, from an Irish man. Great video, hope you all come home safe. Right or wrong you are doing a service for the whole planet.
When this was first posted, it was so well received it lead to the crashing of the MOD servers ... and there was nothing done as "punishment" to "Lucky Pierre" or the rest of the producers and posters.
I saw this and think it is one of the best ones out there...I'm so glad that you guys had a chance to just be yourselves and have a good time. God bless you and your families. You guys are great!!!!!!
Love it, so proud of these guys - just shown it to two American lads who thought it was brilliant. Have tears in my eyes every time I watch it. ❤️❤️❤️ you have a wonderful, inspiring, good looking dad. You are so lucky and it’s nice to know he is appreciated.
Well Done Lads , thinking of you all at this special time. Merry Xmas to all you men and women. This is to my nephew Robert whom we lost 4 years ago in Iraq. God Bless You. Sadly Missed
I'm in absolute awe that this has been around for 17 years! I've been watching almost that long. Wish our American Troops had put something similar together. Very happy to see the update on "Pierre," good on you Sir, retired, commissioned and two adult children! From a Retarded (oops, "Retired") US Army NCO
No matter how difficult a situation may seem, your attitude can always make it better or worse. Imagine these soldiers, living in tents in a sandy desert, risking their lives. Someone had the idea to do something fun one day, I'm sure they all enjoyed themselves for a few minutes. Now we all get to watch this video as a result. Here's the thing. In life, there are always problems. It's the people around us who do even little things to add a little fun that can be the most important during adversity. I always strive to add a little fun no matter the situation, not that I've ever been in a warzone. Anyhow, to me that's the life lesson this video illustrates perfectly.
My, My .... how many years later .... this is STILL one of the funniest damned videos on the internet .... well, short of the KILLER RABBIT from Monty Python! "But SIR, it has very LARGE TEETH!" ... HEHEHEHHEHEEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this is frigging HILARIOUS ... and I'm a TEXAN! ; -)))
My bro & his mates (ex-squaddies) joined the T.A. (Territorial Army) after Army... I hadn't seen my bro in yrs with traveling in Europe. They nicked a Humvee & a Tank = I was walking down the street when I saw them, my bro said "Hi Carol" = it was so funny to see a Humvee + a Tank on a Council Estate... They took me joy-riding in them... We were laffing our socks off
Carol Gardiner legally they cannot take a patrol vehicle or tank on public roads. Especially not if only TA servicemen, also the TA and British Army do not use humvees as transport vehicles they’ve specialised vehicles. So I sense a lie.
It's sad. I'm an American and I have the up-most respect for the British. This was a horrible accident and when they found out what had happen, they were devastated. Most of us are against the war, however not against our, or your troops. It's sad to hear these comments about our relations.
I love it! This just goes to show how, with the right mental attitude, you can make even a lousy situation like being posted to Afghanistan or Iraq endurable.
