Jamaica had a Troop exchange called Calypso Hop: Jamaica Troops travel to England and British Troop travel to and train in Jamaica. Jamaica Defence Force treated the British Troops royally. However the same was absent with the Jamaican Troops in Britain. It was evident that the cooks in the Kitchen and other service personnel did not want to serve us. I was in the US Army for 10 years as a Black female. I went through the exact same thing! I served valiantly in Iraq 🇮🇶 and Kuwait during operation Iraqi freedom from 2004 to 2005. I was subjected to sexism and racism and unwanted se*ual advances. I was also put in some of the most dangerous positions like searching foreign vehicles at the ECP (entry control point in Iraq)by my company command. It wasn’t just me, most all of the Black females were put in the most dangerous positions, as if we were MEN! This was while our fellow white female soldiers stayed in the barracks far away from the possibility of IEDS. To my Black females who are looking to join the military/Armed Forces…..DON’T. It’s not worth it. They promise you the world but never give it to you.
As a Black American woman, I feel for this woman so much. I always see comments from Brits that there's no racism in Britain..from black Brits. Denial can no longer be the go to. It's everywhere on this planet and Britain is no different. Call them out and expose the disease of racism. You matter.😢
I don't know which black Brits you were talking to because they don't represent the black Brits I grew up with. We have experienced racism as a group since our great great grandparents set foot on British soil and before that in the colonies.
Its a problem for women in general in the army... Verbal abuse, sexual harassment, you name it. Vile little boys that don't deserve to wear the uniform.

As a mixed race guy at University in the 80's, I did officer training for the Army. Everything went OK for 3 years and I was at bases all round the UK for CIOR competition until one day I had to go again to Brookwood. There was a different unit on guard duty that weekend and they had never seen my junior officer badge before so they asked me about it. Soon as I told them I was training to be an officer, they said "no white soldier would ever follow a black officer into battle." That was the day the dream died. Editing this bit in for those who think I "gave up" too easy - go and look at history records and see what happened in battle to junior lieutenants that the soldiers didn't like or wish to follow into battle. 2nd and 1st lieutenants often have high mortality rates anyway but trust in the military is a two way thing - you trust the person taking you into battle and you trust the men you lead to follow your orders. I did join - as an ordinary grunt and I served my 4 years. OK - back to the original post below. Reading what happened to Kerry-Ann Knight, nothing has really changed. White squaddies accuse the ethnic minority population of not being patriotic but when we do try and sign up - the same squaddies are the ones shrouding racist abuse at ethnic minority troops.
It’s not embarrassing. It’s downright wrong and disgusting behaviour of the army. No wonder they can’t recruit anyone, I wouldn’t fight for this country and I’m a white male. Never ever would I fight for this horrible country.
@Laminbaba - Come on! Don't be silly! You know that what you're saying is BS. It wasn't "built on racism" any more than any other Western nation. Surely, there's racism in the UK, but it's not insurmountable or all-pervasive. To claim otherwise, is simply ignorant. If it was "built on racism" as you claim, you wouldn't have so many thousands from all over the world desperate to get to Britain's shores.
Literally one of the defining features of a nation: the unification of a group based on sameness against ‘others’ outside that group who do not share sameness. Most Nations were build on homogeneity and that homogeneity didn’t come from tolerance of others. It was wrong then, but it’s the reality that impregnates our dna as Homo sapiens.
They keep an aggressive attitude to keep Africans from demanding back their stolen wealth, which has largely built the cities & nations in the West that they r so proud of. Sitting on stolen wealth for generations, & despising the owners at the same time.

Sis please, for the love of anything you hold dear. Do NOT do it. Don't put yourself through that. Why potentially lay down your life for someone that hates you? I'm glad you had a change of heart.
I wouldn't encourage any black person to join this institution. All you'll be doing is fighting to help the British hold control over others for their personal gain and some of these people you'll be fighting against people who look just like you. I've always said that war is about greed and control.
You can call out sexism, racism, ageism, xenophobia, etc, however you cannot talk anyone out of being those things if it in their nature. They will find ways to circumvent rules and policies when no one in authority is looking.
What? Have you ever heard of how the British Army literally fought side by side with all its subjects? Commonwealth troops fought in the same fights as British troops definitley more than once and very recent to (its last confilict it was in). The British Army has its own regiments specifically made to honour foreign troops, ever heard of the Royal Ghurkas? It also still accepts recruitment pools from former colonies abroad aswell. This is exactly why both the British and Canadian Armed Forces are struggling to attract recruits. P.S. You'll never see these kinds of stories in the Daily Mail or The Telegraph.
