We’re back to complete our game of Avalon Hill’s Panzer Leader, set during one of the battles of the 1944 Anzio Campaign.
Part One of this video: • British at Anzio - 80t...
Shortly after the Allied landings, three British battalions of 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, driving toward Campoleone were about to be cut off by counterattacking elements of the German 3rd Panzergrenadier Division. It was up to 46th Royal Tank Regiment and the London Scots to hold open an escape path so their comrades could safely withdraw.

Quite an interesting game, Damon and Oriskany. The dice decided, "It's dead, Jim." So better luck next time, mate, and congratulations to Damon. Evan on the tabletop in 15mm that the classical weak side armour of German vehicles can let you down when the other side uses effective combined arms. With games in the Western Desert under FoW V3, I learned to give the British 5.5" gun a lot more respect. It was an excellent field gun. I saw a photo years ago of a Sdkfz 251 that was hit by a solid ranging shot from a British 5.5" gun in the Western Desert. It looked surprisingly intact, except its chassis was sitting a body length behind the hull. The gunner had lined up the shot through the open breach.

Thanks, James. I actually think this scenario is balanced AGAINST the British. Damon played well, rolled very well, I rolled very badly, and worst of all ... I forgot I was on "defense" after my initial moves and pushed too aggressively against Damon's British ... add all this up and still he BARELY won. Given all the previous, the game should have been more of a landslide. Like I mention in the outro, add 2-4 more turns so the British can better apply their off-board artillery and infantry.

@JamesJohnson-wq6bs I had the feeling. A couple of years ago, I had a game against Yarrick Mid War Germans vs Russian. It was an infantry action. Heaviest armour was a squadron for each of us of reconnaissance armoured cars, and that was it. The olds were on his side, just so many Russians and a Penal battalion to boot. However, my dice rolling was ridiculous. In a group of dice, maybe 1 or 2 dice may miss the rest would do serious damage. So it took only 5 turns to run out of Russians. Normally, we debrief after a game and pick units of the other match, etc. As soon as the game finished, Yarrick said, "Not a word!" Bust occasionally it's the dice that decide the game rather than good tactics.
