This hunt was a great reminder of the reality of hunting. Very few animals seen, with zero opportunities. You aren’t always going to see a bunch of game. None the less, there were a lot of bread crumbs leading to future success. As I wondered into new terrain, I found some interesting clues. Whitetails will be on the list for next season in a new light. This outing took me on an important learning journey that I will not forget.

Great video, it provides an accurate picture of public land whitetail hunting in region 8. I'm in a similar boat to you right now. Not having stands and access set-up preseason cost me. Had about a dozen cams set up in region 8 and a few in region 3 and the intel received is invaluable. Whitetail bucks really start getting on their feet mid-November, anytime of day. All day sits can pay off, if you have the patience for it. Following tracks in the snow is fun and hard to resist and it's great to find all the rubs and scrapes, but I'm starting to understand why most serious whitetail hunters sit in stands. As for those tree stands you found, don't let it discourage you. I found a tree stand in one of my arears and I didn't see a soul hunting, this year or last year.

Love this. You nailed this one. It’s like that little voice in the back of your head. “You need to sit” “you need to sit”. But you continue to hike around because those are your usual hunting habits and that’s what you enjoy doing… but…. It’s time to adapt. 🤘

Another great vid man. What’s your bow setup?
@truetineoutdoors
@truetineoutdoors 6 месяцев назад
Thanks man, it’s a budget bow, I use an old bear cruzer g2 w/ a cheap Apache stabilizer. I use carbon express piledriver DS arrows 350 spine. I’ve messed around with a few different arrows and those are the arrows I was able to get to shoot the best.

Nice hunt ! Really hard to sneak up on anything in noisy snow. I"m way to impatient to go slow enough. The only thing that I ever got from the ground was a Bear a Coyote and some grouse. I had to get up in a tree to get my first deer. And my biggest mistake was setting up too close to the trails . Got busted many times. Thanks for showing us some of the gear you use. Nice little stove , is it homemade? And how did the prefab logs work? The ground blind sound good. I have many that I built , but didnt get back to to use.

Yea it’s too bad I never ended up getting a storm while I was out. The stove is from princess auto. Pretty cheap stove. The logs were actually really good. The coals lasted for hours. That’s very cool. I think building a ground blind is on the list!

Probably sitting in one of those tree stands for the whole day might have paid off. Looks like you are in a pressured area for sure though.

Yea you’re definitely right. It would have given me better chances at seeing a WT forsure. Yea seems like it must get hammered throughout peak rut.

I could never understand the appeal of a wall tent. What a pain in the ass to setup. And if the hunting sucks in that area, want to pain to move. A camper or travel trailer is definitely the way to go.
@truetineoutdoors
@truetineoutdoors 6 месяцев назад
Lol a camper is definitely more convenient for moving around. But this tent is super easy to set up. Took me 15 minutes. In this situation I was staying in that area for the weekend. Snow makes it tough to have the conveniences you speak of. A little extra work won’t kill yea.

Don't get wet in that camper, you wont get your gear dry. I use both throughout the year but must say I prefer coming home(back to camp) to wood heat. Nothing beats it.

That wood stove is hard to beat. Throw one in your camper! I can’t bring the camper to a lot of spots where I go because I bring my truck down some gnarly roads.
