I'm a bigger lady and I literally laugh out loud at AL Bundy. This was before everyone was offended at everything. Ed O'Neil is a really nice guy in real life. You should check out the interaction between AL and Peg his wife. That's hilarious.

The joke involving ‘equal’: we have a sugar substitute whose brand name is ‘Equal.’ He’s basically telling her to lay off the sugar.

I loved Married With Children growing up. It is definitely not about a shoe store lol. That's just where Al works. The majority of the show takes place in their house, and Al is usually the punch line. Congratulations on the baby btw 🎉

‘Slim Fast’: it’s a liquid drink that helps with weight loss. There was a play on words regarding the product’s name, and the action of getting slim fast.

There was a lot more to this TV series than just the shoe store scenes!!! Much of it was absolute Gold!

The show is about Al Bundy & his family (wife & 2 kids). His neighbors, a married couple, are a big part of the series also. They do show a lot of scenes in the shoe store where he works tho. Love this show. I just rewatched the entire series not that long ago.

Jenny Craig is a weightloss meal program

There is an episode where Al is in a store to buy Peg an anniversary gift. Another customer is there also to buy a gift for his first anniversary. He chooses a cheap picture frame explaining that they want to save their money for more important things. Al then tells him, "There is nothing more important than your anniversary" He then goes on to explain how it's just between the two of you etc. Anyway it's very heartfelt and wise

If you saw how his family treat him you'll see why he is the way he is.

I would suggest checking out a full episode or two. Not all of the jokes were fat jokes. There are many fat jokes and this shows a lot of them. There are also many jokes that are put downs of Al, and many jokes centered around his children not living up to his expectations. The pacing of a full show will make it more worthwhile. Still a fun reaction.

Al Bundy is an inspiration to us all

The Al character had a few quirks... He didnt like larger women being he had to deal with them at work, he hates his job, avoids his wife and his bedroom duties (😅), and is always annoyed with his kids sometimes but he has a soft spot for his daughter and jokes a lot with his son, and relives his "glory days" before he was a washed up high school football player. Oh and he hates his neighbors lol

One of my favorite episodes is when "Santa" was parachuting into an appearance at a new mall and his chute didn't open, sending him plummeting into the Bundy's back yard. This should give you an idea of what this series was like.

You really need to watch some full episodes to get the whole premise of the show. These are just small snippets. Usually the show takes place at Bundy's house and in many cases Al is the one who is the butt of the jokes and snarky remarks.

If you watch the show, you’ll see that Al’s life is a living hell in every way. So the only thing he has left are his insults and nobody on the show was belittled or demeaned as much as he was lol it was a great show

This gives you a good idea of how harsh the jokes are, but the fat jokes are almost all at his job and most episodes don’t even include any scenes at his job. The show is really centered around the living room in his house.

MUST understand that Peggy rarely cooked or even bought groceries.. so you'll understand some of the jokes

The Show "Married with Children" is I repeat "Not" just about Al working in a shoe store that sells women shoes. Think for a minute, if they were to make a whatever to describe your place of employment would that be your whole life? I should hope not. A show that would just have big fat women with a attitude, talking plenty of this and that coming in to buy what you are trying to sell because that would be your job. How long would you work there and how long could they stay in business. Just as you, watching this showing and then reacting to it, well that is like Al is doing, reacting this way or that way within reason how you two are. And if the story of your life would be "Married with Children" wouldn't it and shouldn't it be about your married life with children? Shouldn't it be about you and your spouse being married to each other and your children? And should the children's also be if some importance too? And if you ask why doesn't Al do this or that or should have done this or that, well you got to remember that this is a story about a fictitious character named "Al", not you. And if what you would do whatever different than Al, would it be funny? Ok, then for crying out loud, do yourself a favor and watch a few episodes and then see why this so-called comedy show is far better than many a show that is on the air today. All you got to do is ask yourself why was this comedy sitcom Number One for ten years. Common sense should tell you that there is a lot more than insulting fat obnoxious women who's got a bad attitude and talk a lot of poo. I'm not usually a fan of American comedy, it is usually over the top, overacted and terribly un-funny, this however does not apply to Married With Children, this had me in stitches of laughter every episode. I grew up with British humor on TV and loved the sarcastic wit of the brits, but Al bundy also captured that so well, it was hilarious. Yes it was offensive, but only if you let it offend you. I'm a bigger person and never once took offense at the jokes, as they were really funny. You're watching a compilation of specific fat jokes so it might appear to be a lot and as if the show was all about them, but it was not. It was about being married with children and the life sucking constant wallet breaking conundrum of having to deal with a wife, kids and his neighbors. But overall Al loves his family and will do anything to protect them which he demonstrates many times, then berates them immediately after for making his life hell. Brilliantly written and acted by all the cast, except Steve (there's always an exception). there are dozens of catchphrases that still resonate today. It's sad that a show like this would not be tolerated today, as many are just so easily offended and instead of simply not watching they instead have to cry to everyone about how offended they are for someone else.

This is USA calling... Guess you know a three part episode was filmed in England. I thought those episodes promised more than they delivered. I thought the writers should have had the Bundy's interact with characters from established British sitcoms (which do have a Stateside cult following): have the Budny's spend a night at Fawlty Towers (Al Bundy vs. Basil Fawlty!), have the Bundy's grab a bite at Sid & Ivy's cafe (Al Bundy vs. Nora Batty and Compo), have the Budny's shop at Grace Brothers (Al Bundy vs. Mrs. Slocum, Capt. Peacock and eventually Jug-Ears), even take a ride in the TARDIS (the unpleasant Al Bundy vs. the even more unpleasant 6th Doctor!)...!

The show is not actually about the shoe shop. But a lot of the jokes they use for the shoe shop are fat women jokes. If you watch the show, you'll see the shoe store is a very small part of it. The shoe store wasn't even in many of the episodes.

4:48 one of the running gags on the show was that every woman thinks they’re a size 4, no matter how big their foot is. So there would be sight gags of them doing ridiculous things to get shoes onto these women’s feet.

Yeah, we had a decent amount of insult comedies back in the 90’s. Like Mad T.V. And In Living Color. Speaking of In Living Color. If you check out some clips, you might recognize a few of their cast members. Some of them went on to a successful career in movies and one of them (in a very small part of the show) in the music industry. Edit: Jenny Craig was a weight loss program like Weight Watchers.

Married With Children was and is my favorite show there were 11 seasons of the show and thou it was the most popular show of it's time due to it content it never won any awards but it should have. There was far more then just the show store, Al and the Marcy next door hated each other. Peggy Al's wife and him were always making fun of each other even in front of other people. Bud the son and Kelly the daughter also always fought with each other. But their fighting was not cruel or volent in anyway but in a funny way. I know that sounds strange but if you watch it you'll understand. I should also add that the show started off rather soft on the humor but after a few seasons they really got good. But to understand the show you'll need to start from season 1 episode 1 and when you get to the NO'MAM club you'll see what I mean.

This show was great back when Americans had a sense of humor!
