I’m glad that you guys are reacting to Dave! I have been a fan of his from day one, however, I personally find that his later comedy, once he’d gotten a little older and more experienced (or dare I say “hardened”) is really where he shines and is unmatched.

Pryor mainly wrote his own jokes but yes, he indeed had ghostwriters. But he also didn't have Chappelle as an influence. He influenced Chappelle.

In art your work is often built on top of those who came beforehand. The guy who created the Porsche wouldn't be shit without the Model-T. Richard blew open the range of of how comics perform. Dave is an original and is king of the house that Richard built. Comedy was one way before Pryor and a bunch of different ways after him. There's a reason why RP is universally accepted as the GOAT even by the other great comedians.

To overly simplify things. The "cocaine major" thing was in 1990 when Marion Barry the mayor of DC arrested for crack cocaine. He got out in 1992. Then in he started his fourth term as mayor 1995-1999

I think he was referring to Marion Barry. He was the mayor and smoked crack. He was fired, and then got his job back. It was a mess lol! Check out Chris Rock's first 2 HBO comedy specials. That's the comedy I grew up with. The 90's were much less stressful than now. Your video had me laughing so hard I was crying, and you have no idea how much I needed that at this very moment. Yeah the cocaine part about the the mayor of D.C. was about Marion Berry being arrested in a hotel sting operation after he bought some coke....I was actually there in DC when the trial was going on behind the back of the capital and they were drawing pictures outside of what was going on in the courtroom because cameras weren't allowed in courtrooms in D.C. at the time. So they would have an artist go in and come out and do a portrait from memory for the camera that they could show on the tv....it was crazy....I think it was 90' or 91' when that was going on...not exactly sure though but I do remember it so I know it happened around that time frame😂

But my stand was that was between him and his wife. But as President he got our national debt down to manageable for a large country. Dave Chappelle is my favorite American comedian of all time. He is very intelligent and thought provoking. He does his research and adds his own life experiences to his comedy. I recently found out, more about his background which was even more impressive and makes sense. He also received an honor. They did an interview with Richard Pryor's wife and she compared Dave to Richard, which is an honor, considering the fact that Richard was regarded as THE greatest Comedian and paved the way for the up and coming comedians of the community. If it weren't for Richard, we probably would not have Dave, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Katt Williams, kevin hart, so on and so forth. So basically, you are watching a comedic genius. Dave is so unique that he was known, for walking out on millions of dollars to go to Africa because of the politics behind his well known show. The Dave Chappelle show. This is how serious, the Americans take freedom of speech. I'm excited to watch this video. 😊

There was a Black mayor of Washington D.C. Who was arrested for cocain but still got re-elected. That was what the joke was about cocain being ok for mayors.
