I have been asked in my travels abroad, are Americans still patriotic, do you still stand behind your nation and flag….the simplest way to put that is in the hours and following days after 9/11, over 342,000 Americans immediately dropped what they were doing and joined the military. Our flag, our country and our citizens were attacked. We all knew instinctively that there was going to be hell to pay and wars to be fought. So yes we are still brave and patriotic…..and yes our flag is still waving freely, only because our commitment to defend our nation no matter what. These lessons have been instilled on this nation so much so that even the Japanese in WWII saw us and feared the potential the US . Famously in WWII, Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto said: “ I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” He was more than correct.

I was thinking about the movie Hidden figures. The computers that were used by NASA took up whole rooms in order to get men into space. The technology used by the government changed so much that the engineers have computers that are smaller and more powerful. Therefore military aircraft can chang over the years to be more powerful.

1) As the original video mentioned, the Doolittle Raid in 1942 caused only miniscule damage in Japan. But the outrage and embarrassment felt by the Japanese Navy was a deciding factor for their plans to attack the American island of Midway. Based on the numbers, Japan should have won the Battle of Midway. Due to a string of events fortuitous for the U.S. Navy, they sank three Japanese aircraft carriers in five minutes, claiming one of the most unlikely and most pivotal naval battles in history. The Japanese never had a chance to win the Pacific War (World War 2), but this battle put them permanently on the defensive. (The 2001 film "Pearl Harbor" begins with the Doolittle Raid. If you like old movies, watch "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" from 1944. I would imagine someone has made a documentary video short enough to react to.) 2) Refueling in mid-air obviously requires expert flying, as the two planes need to match speed and get very close. The hose from the tanker aircraft, called the "boom," is controlled by someone at the tail of the tanker. The boom operator extends the boom the last few meters to make the connection. The British RAF has a fleet of 12 tankers that are a modified version of the Airbus A330. Astonishingly, the USAF has more than 550 of them, with nearly 200 more on order! Nearly 400 were built from 1955 to 1965 at the height of the Cold War. They are still airworthy but require more and more maintenance. 3) The $4 billion per plane cost for the B-2 explains why only 21 of the originally planned 132 were built. I cannot confirm this, but at one time in the 1980s or 1990s they supposedly cost more than their weight in gold! When the U.S. military or their contractors give cost estimates, they are frequently VERY wrong, so consider me deeply skeptical that the new B-21 will cost no more than $600 million. You yourselves said the original video makes it sound too good to be true. Nevertheless, I do support replacing the B-2. 4) The threat of war with China is not "almost certain." Talk about hyperbole! The U.S. said the same about the Soviet Union during the Cold War. In case anyone has forgotten, both China and the U.S. are nuclear powers. Having nukes makes adversaries less likely to attack you (at 20:45, the original video says as much). American defense contractors, their lobbyists, and much of the media (including movies, TV, and military RU-vid channels) have a tendency to exaggerate, to put it mildly, in their ongoing mission to prevent the U.S. from running out of wars. Right now, we're very close to that, so the marketing campaigns of scaremongering get cranked up. Of course, the chance of war with China is not zero. But we somehow forget that just as politicians in the U.S. like to talk tough and get credit for strengthening the military, so do politicians in Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. I wonder if one reason Russia actually did invade Ukraine is that the Russian government too successfully built up the imaginary threat of Ukraine in the minds of the Russian people, to the point that it would have appeared irresponsible to not attack such a danger to Russia. (Also, Russia had to do it while Ukraine was not a NATO member.) If there's any truth to that, the Russians were somewhat trapped by their own propaganda. Now that the war is underway, they're even more trapped, because withdrawing would be admitting the whole rationale for it was a lie.

The way I look at it, the B2 and the B21 differences parallels the differences in the old PC vs the old Apple Macintoshes. The PC with it's open architecture allows almost any PC to remain relevant for a LONG time with incremental upgrades of almost any component over the years in the same basic frame, whilst the Macintoshes, while very expensive and powerful, are not easily upgradable much and eventually will require a total replacement in order to be competitive over the long haul. I've owned both and noticed in the long haul, it's WAY cheaper to keep & upgrade the old PC, while the cheapest way to keep Mac current is to replace the whole thing every few years, which is STILL costs more to keep current than a PC. Finally the Mac gave up and switched to the PC architecture to be more cost effective BUT they engineered the software to be sooo picky that ye cannot take full advantage of the open architecture. That's why I gave up on the Mac and went PC only and only use the Mac laptops for specialty purposes whilst the PCs does everything else day and night. I imagine the US Military pretty much felt the same way about the B2 stealth bomber and wanted to go the way of the PC and be able to upgrade the airframe as new things gets developed and can get a few more decades out of each airframe. Anything to reduce cost in the long haul is good, while the US Military has a HUGE budget, it still isn't infinite. 😉

A good summation of the Doolittle Raid can be found at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kpxRNqeD4eA.html The main thing about the raid was the psychological effects on both the Americans and the Japanese. For the Americans it provided a much needed boost to morale and showed that we were still in the fight and could hit back. For the Japanese it lowered morale as it represented the first time the Emperor of Japan had ever been in direct danger and was just a glimpse of what was to come. Some realized that they had indeed awakened a giant and mad him very angry. It was important enough to the Americans that they risked what was left of their navy in the Pacific to make it happen. The raiders on Doolittle's flight knew that it was probably going to be a one way trip and yet they went anyway. The Japanese would consistently underestimate American resolve and fighting spirit.

Never having to use the plane is not a waste of money. The existence of the plane is a deterrent and therefore money well spent. Northop Grumman, having designed and built the B-2, along with their experience with other modern military aircraft like the F-35, allows them to keep the cost of R&D down on the B-21, making it more affordable while also being extremely advanced.

The thing I would reiterate is the US rarely fields hardware that is not up to the job. This aircraft is likely as good as advertised if not better. Just like the f-117 it will likely be known a lot better after we see it in use as I would be shocked if we avoid conflict with China and or N.Korea at some point. As for Russia, conventional warfare with them would be brutal for Russia. The modular system integration is a truly generational leap.

It is most likely true that despite being cheap, the B-21 is still a massive upgrade. We just won't ever know how they managed to do this since like the B-2 before it, and with the F-35 now, most information on what makes the F-35, and B-21 so ground breaking will remain classified. You saw how far the U.S went to retrieve the F-35 that was lost out at sea in Asia to prevent China from getting it. The U.S will do whatever possible to keep the specifics classified especially with this new bomber.

The Doolittle raiders is an amazing story, there are a lot of good videos on it, but it effectively was a lot of brave men risking their lives just to give Japan a taste of what they started. Its also very tragic as to escape a lot of the crew men landed or ditched in China which would result in the japanese killing upwards of 250,000 Chinese as retribution for helping the Americans escape. And while the raid itself was not effective on the large it was the first domino leading to Japan's decision to launching an attack against the island of midway which would be the complete turning point in the war in the pacific against the japanese where they would lose 4 of their 6 aircraft carriers.

However i do think the B-21 will be successful, not just from a tactical point, but economically and technologically too. But its still years away from final product, as it still has plenty of testing to conclude, but im confident its going to be one badass addition the the US Air Force and its partners.

More Claudian than Julia, even though it's ironic that Claudius was part of the Roman Empire born into it however he as a youth longed for the days of the Republic. So to answer your question yes we do have Imperial power as a nation the United States but I pray we remain a republic, the world would not be good if we ever go full Empire. The idea of all-domain warfare permitting victory in at least one attack vector has to be taken with a grain of salt. Winning a battle to shut down enemy computers is all fine and dandy, but it won't win the war. Nor does winning a battle at sea, to control space, or even to control the sky above an enemy nation. Those things are all very important, but they share one thing in common. They just make it easier to invade the target nation. It doesn't matter if you control the sky above or the sea around that nation if you don't send soldiers there. You may make it harder for them to move, but move they will. They can take whatever time they need to come up with a solution to the problem. A universal truth of warfare that hasn't changed since the days of Og the caveman is that the only way to win a war is to send poor bloody infantry there to knock them down and make them yell "uncle". That means that to achieve a lasting victory, ground assault is the only attack vector that truly matters. The ultimate purpose of every other form of warfare is to support the infantry and make their job easier, and make the job of the opposing infantry harder.

A few comments - first, the concept of a strong military that you hope will never be used is nothing new. Great Britain used this concept with its huge navy in 17th and 18th century. Your country developed a super strong navy to deter France and Spain from attacking. Again, this concept is nothing new. It’s called “Deterrence Through Strength”. That’s why nations build militaries, in trying to persuade your potential enemy to think twice. Your country does it today with your nuclear submarines, tanks, ships, aircraft carriers. Surprised you two are new to this concept. Also, air refueling - this has been around since the late 1960s. Your country did in the Falklands Conflict. You two, I hope know about that brief war between your country and Argentina back on 1982. To explain further - your countries military occupied an island I. The middle of the Atlantic Ocean called Ascension Island. Back in the 80s your country had a strategic bomber called a Vulcan. The Vulcan took off from this island and flew all the way south to the Falkland Islands to bomb the Argentine controlled airfield in Goose Green (this is a village that has an airfield on the Falklands Island. The distance was way to far to fly with out air refueling so your country used tankers to refuel the bomber at least 6 times to get it to the Falklands and back.

Do you guys take requests? I've noticed you react to a lot of military stuff, but not so much music. I also noticed how...um...."innocent" you guys were in terms of music artists when you reacted to a video (howdy, it's Kyle) about musical artists from each state. I don't know if you guys read these comments (or take requests not made by your Patreon supporters). If y'all get bored or something, maybe you can check out a pretty little song by country artist Garth Brooks, called "If Tomorrow Never Comes". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K1kc1X6kTpw.html

America practices peace through strength. Think about it. You have no negotiation power if you are the weak person on the board. But if you carry the biggest stick, you can force peace from others who would not have it otherwise. That is why the world has enjoyed its most peaceful amount of time in history after World War ii.

Wouldn't it have been better to just keep this airplane top secret and just call it a B2 ? Or is it intended to spook enemies as a deterrent saying "we have this airplane so enemies think twice about doing anything aggressive"? Either way it's a welcome addition to counter any threats to democracy and freedom.

@thebeasleys I live in Rapid City South Dakota, and the Air Base next to us is going to be the base to hold the B-21. We are expecting about 2,000 to 10,000 airmen and women to move here to be stationed at Ellsworth AFB. Rapid City's population is at 80,000 people, so by 2025 our population is gonna be almost 100,000. Ellsworth AFB is home to the 28th Bomb Squadron which hold the B-1B Lancer. When the B-21 arrives, the B1 will be retired along with the B-2. Ellsworth has been home to the B1 since 1987.

If they were only buying those planes, they could buy 2,733 in one year. But they're only going to buy a hundred of them, over probably a decade or more

Two great WW2 movies to watch are "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" starring Van Johnson, Robert Mitchum and Spencer Tracy as Doolittle and "The Purple Heart" about the trial of a captured flight crew of one of the raiders. Both films were produced in 1944 when it was no longer necessary to protect the secrets of the raid.
