there's also a 90% chance a thief will get nothing of value to them if they decide to go for mailboxes lol, I used to wonder why it doesn't happen more often but yea the risk/reward ratio is horrible
@@SheaSF That's true, that's why it's usually not a good idea when friends and relatives want to drop something in your mail box. The Post Office has the right to remove it.
Mail does occasionally get stolen, but it's not that common because it's considered a federal crime. Packages though comapanies like FedEx or Amazon are another story however, because they aren't legally considered mail since they don't go through the actual postal service. Plus a lot of people would still send out important documents through the post office or just fax them to wherever they need to go.
@@IcyTorment Believe it not, there are still people and corporations that still use faxes over other means. I've had to deal with it several times in the past few years. They just don't use phone lines anymore because most decent modern printers can just send faxes over any internet connection, but yeah, It's still a thing.
@@miraculous-tales It is not, mail is delivered strictly by USPS which is operated by the government (In fact the government are the only once who are legally allowed to deliver mail, it's a government regulated monopoly.) which is why stealing mail is a federal crime. Parcells/packages aren't considered mail which is why you can have them delivered to you by UPS/FEDEX/Amazon and a host of other businesses that has the upside of competitive prices but the downside of the punishment for stealing being regulated by normal theft laws (Hell i believe anything under a thousand dollars it's considered petit larceny and thus is only a misdemeanor.).
I knew a family where the grandma had her social security checks stolen by her nephew. He got caught stealing hers and other people’s checks and served 7 years in Federal prison. It’s usually safe to put your mail out, but you can meet the postal carrier when they’re there, or drive to the post office. Most people won’t let their drug addict ex-con relatives visit and I learned why
In the US we very rarely put anything of importance in our mailboxes. We’ll usually drop it off at the post office or drop it into post boxes located at grocery stores for example. In my area you very rarely see the flags up on mailboxes, they’re mainly for receiving than sending.
Do you think ai can write in cursive, somehow sign, and seal, and mail a letter to the potus? Cause we can still do that, and those get run through code filters as well as the haz-mat variety...ideas are tools we need to check in with God to see if any good...we should really be close now to having the ability to do exactly that, without fear...Lotd willing everyone that heard over Israel, That They Are To Love The Lord Their God With All Their Heart All Their Soul, And All Their Might...close
Dude you have mail in box votes during two previous elections, it was all over the internet. Or elections and voting is no longer important in US? I'm confused
@@bsbdptsddid you not see how he literallt say “we USUALLY dont use them for sending mail” 80 percent of it is for recieving mail not sending it. unless youre oldschool then u send and recieve all the time. dont like it? cool who gives a flying fuck
In the area I live in, as well as most newer built areas in Oregon, USA, they have this giant metal box that is bolted to the concrete on the sidewalk. It contains a small box for every person that lives in the area and you open it with a key. If you get packages, there are medium sized boxes where the mailman puts the box in it, locks it, then puts the key to that in your locked small mailbox. However, if the package is too big or is delivered via FedEx or UPS, they usually put the package on your doorstep.
10:15. It is a US federal crime to open/steal another person's mail delivered by the USPS in the mailbox which is why you rarely hear anybody doing that because you will go to prison.
Damn, this Quagmire compilation was terrible. This felt like a Full House version of Quagmire. Not the reactors fault of course, just.. whoever provided the link.
You can actually get a lock and key from the postal service. They'll have a copy and your mail courier will have a masterkey for the locks. You can also get a post office box, whoch I suppose is similar to what you guys are referring to. You can also install a mail flap on you door. Just depends on what you want to do. Where i'm from, the door flaps are more common because we have very harsh winters and unless your mailbox has a brick or metal post, it probably won't survive a winter.
@@iTzDeyo the compilations are always hilarious and I know the shows are all legit funny. I really anything on TV any more. I will say I never cease to be amazed by what they can say and get away with on Family Guy. I wish all media would show the same backbone.
As an American i think its funny that, of the whole video, the one thing we latched onto was that someone thinks our mail system is weird lmfaoo. Every comment is explaining how mail works
One of the oddities of the USA is the general safety of mailboxes. Its very rare to have it stolen. Cities tend to have post offices and drop boxes that you'd be used to but neighborhoods and everywhere else usually have mailboxes.
Wait...English people have to go the post office everytimenthey want to post something? Even a small object or a letter? If it can fit and its not super valuable we stick it the mailbox with the flag up and its actually really uncommon for anybody to snatch something out of your mailbox if you live in a decent neighborhood.
@@limeygaynor oh thats right. Forgot about those. But what about small inexpensive items? Like you ordered something small and not very expensive and it came damaged or something? You have to make an effort to go to the post office to return something that wasn't even your mistake? I've never been to Great Britain but here in the U.S going to the post office is kind of a hassle and can sometimes be quite a distance away. Where I live the post office is a good 30 minute round trip. That would be a pain having to do that everytime I wanted to return something.
@@tonyg490 we get most deliveries from carriers like UPS and Hermes etc. The postal service do deliver too, and the postal offices are close by, mine is 10 minutes away and not too busy.
For the mail, you don’t have to send every single thing through your postbox in front of your home. If it’s a sensitive document and you don’t feel comfortable putting it in there, you can go to the post office and drop it off that way. Or go to a post office box, where you can put it in and nobody can take it out. Which are usually stationed around cities.
Great comedy family guy But a family spending time together and laughing That is something you guys will look back on in 20 years and wish Make it last
In terms of the mail there have been a few occasions where I’ve received mail for someone who lives on my street or on the adjacent block and I just walk it over to them
so 3:04 Quagmire is probably one of the biggest perverts on earth but had never heard of internet porn so when the guys told him about it it lead to that scene :)
as weird as it sounds people dont really steal mail that often its most of the time big packages that arrive at your door that would get stolen no one really opens our mailboxes lol
Mail theft isn't really much of a problem. Most people don't mail out anything very valuable, so thieves don't bother, especially since on-line payments became a thing. And it's not really worth it for thieves because they might have to steal out of 100 mailboxes and if they're lucky maybe they'll get 1 birthday card with 20 dollars in it, not worth committing a federal crime over.
You guys really need to vet what you're watching before you watch with the family. This is far from the best Quagmire compilation. I'd say it's one of the worst compilations of Familyguy. Vetting process should be true for any show really.
The insecure mailboxes are typical in residential neighborhoods. In denser cities, you'll find the individually locked mailboxes that the mail-carrier can access from the rear with a single door. Most people wouldn't send something like a passport or other important applications that way, but they would send their monthly bills that way, and yes, someone could steal the envelopes and get bank account numbers and even examples of signatures that way.
If caught (and mind you USPS takes theft very seriously) you'd also get 5 years in federal prison a criminal record and 250,000$ fine. It's not worth the effort packages on the other had are not so well protected.
Even though stealing mail and packages are illegal people still do it. So we leave "gifts" for them. A nice good looking stealable box with POOP in it! Set up a camera and laugh at said thief. Who they gonna tell without being arrested? 😂😂😂
If you have seen the videos of the guys stopping porch package theft by stepping out of their door with an AR-15, that is the same reason not too many people mess with home mail boxes in America.
For a compilation, some of these "jokes" went on for too long or were based on contexts that you'd have to watch the episode to understand. Payoff not worth it. Also he has way funnier moments that weren't included.
You put the flag up to notify the postal carrier when you have outgoing mail. Although most people just drop it at the post office, because it goes out every 3 hours there and your carrier might be out on their route for up to 8 hours (depending where you are on the route), before they get back to send it out. The post office is usually less than 10 km away, unless you're in a rural area.
Messing with the mail in the box if caught is a felony is part of what keeps people from doing it. Anything really sensitive send in big metal box at like supermarket, or just go to the post office.
honestly ppl COULD steal someone’s mail but it’s a federal offense and if you get caught it’s a harsh punishment. you go to prison and/or get fined A LOT of money.
Having your mail delivered via having a publicly openable opening in your front door allows for other things: easily fishing from that slot on the outside to open the door from the inside; using a reaching device to pick up the mail on the floor and easily take it with you; potentially spray all kinds of flammable or other harmful fluids freely into your living space; etc. It's really not a safe way to go. Also no idea about the UK, but in the US credit or debit card fraudulent charges are the problem of the issuing bank, not the customer so there's no actual financial risk to having anything stolen. Cards are inactive until opened at which point the verification is usually to call a number listed on the card from the telephone number associated with the account and punch in a one-time PIN. Takes maybe twenty seconds and is pretty much as secure as it needs to be. We use chip now, but don't PIN. Again, if there are charges on your account you didn't make you just call and tell them that and they take the charges off and assume the costs or take the costs from the place that charged them. In any case it's not your problem as the customer and if there's reason to think the card is compromised they'll overnight a replacement card to you at no cost.
If I’m sending something via the mail as an American, I go to the post office directly. The whole mailbox thing is a thing of the past ever since porch pirates are a thing.
10:12 The red flag is raised when we have outgoing mail. Other than that it has no other use. In the US it is a federal crime to tamper or mess with someone else's mail. You learn about the Postal Inspector and they do not mess around.
I have one of those zero-security mailboxes.. I never have a problem with mail theft... But I'm in a very rural area where everybody has LOTS of guns. So the crooks tend to avoid the area for their mail-pilfering shenanigans.
Cannot place advertising in mail boxes or any other personal mailings as only items with paid postage are allowed in boxes and only mail carriers can legaly open them.
Tampering with the US mail is a Federal Misdemeanor that will get you 1 to 2 years in prison depending on the state that you are caught in. Our mailboxes are very visible, and it's encouraged to report anyone messing with the mail.
@@spinningbackkick6021 I suspect that it's not really a crime that occurs often in the UK because of how crowded their cities are, forcing people to drop their mail off at large bins like the ones we have sitting outside of the Post Office for after hours drop off.
@@Mildly_Dead Tampering with the mail is a Federal offense and has penalties at the national level, which is what I referenced. I'm not going to look up the additional penalties for each state. My comment was to someone foreign and they wouldn't appreciate such a wall of text.
"from that photo on the left, it looks like he spends a lot of time on his own" LMFAOO. that's when he first found out about internet porn, guy made the most of it
