@@Biscuitsgravy924 You can't. The rule states the hitter must make an attempt to avoid the pitch. Although people have leaned into the pitch before and got away with it.
@@DazednMildlyConfused Is it a recent rule? I remember an old player that used to play for the Cardinals I think -- Valentine I think -- who would purposely take hits to get on base. This was back in the 2000's though.
@@gnarxy i wonder the same thing sometimes but they're not American so I can see how they would miss stuff and be a bit confused. They should take the time one day to watch a video with all the rules and stuff so they understand better what's going on. Or better yet watch a few games and learn that way. For baseball and Aidan could use some work on his football knowledge also.
Most hit batsmen in baseball are not intentional, but sometimes they are. If they are, they'll be aimed for the back or some other non-vital area not likely to cause serious harm. For example, they would not intentionally throw a fastball at the head. To add to this, sometimes pitchers pitch inside just to get a batter to back off the plate without the intent to hit them, but hit them anyway. Even for accurate pitchers, sometimes your release point gets off and you throw a very wild pitch by accident.
You are correct Daz. These pitchers are so accurate these days that getting hit by a pitch is rare. If it happens more than once and its the same player getting hit by the pitch, its intentional.
The most impressive thing about Ben Watson's chasedown tackle at 11:53 is that he was on the opposite side of the field from the interception. So he was a big bulky Tight End running 120 to 130 yards to chase a speedy defensive back and STILL managed to do it. The Patriots still lost that game so it doesn't get talked about as much as it should but it's an all-time great play imo EDIT: Same with Don Beebe's play in the very next clip. That was a Super Bowl that the Bills lost 52-17 but it's still a classic hustle play
7:36 the chin guard you see a lot of batters wear on their helmets was made famous when Giancarlo Stanton got hit in the face by a pitch and has worn that guard ever since. In the video, years later, it’s the same pitcher that hit Stanton that threw up and in again so Stanton was upset because the trauma is still probably very relevant for him.
Daz is pretty much spot on. It's all in the situation and intent when guys get hit by baseballs. Like Daz said there are situations where guys get hit by balls standing too close to the plate (They call standing too close "Crowding the Plate"). Remember these guys have thrown baseballs around for their entire lives and have supreme control of where they're throwing that ball. When they miss very badly like that it was intentional and there's probably some background drama behind why they're throwing the ball at the other team.
The baseball incident at around 8 minutes has a little history behind it. The batter Gincarlo Stanton was hit in the face several years prior by the same pitcher (it wasn't intentional but it ended Stanton's season - I believe it knocked out a substantial amount of his teeth actually). The pitch that hit him in this clip was not intentional either but probably brought back some bad memories and mixed emotions for Stanton. That is why he got upset and started saying stuff. Stanton then took Fliers deep the next at bat. Also, the first baseball clip was of the batter Alex Rodriguez being intentionally hit by the rival Boston Redsox. Alex was suspended the previous season for steroid reasons and most of the league didn't take too kindly to that fact. So, they tried to hit him, missed, and then hit on the next pitch.
The Red Sox pitcher hit the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez intentionally because A-Rod had just returned from a year long PED suspension, hence the nickname "A-Roid". Bitter division rivals playing at Fenway in Boston. This was his first game back in Boston since his return from the suspension and the Sox wanted to say "welcome back."
there are 2 baseball ejections y'all need to see...both easy to find on YT just by searching their name, should be first result (1) Wally Backman, and (2) Phillip Wellman.....you won't regret it lmao, both are ridiculous/hilarious...no other ejections compare imo
I wasn’t sure at first cuz you’re expanding fast. But this is a fun channel! I hope you guys see a couple Dodgers scrums against the diamondbacks and the Padres. Vin Scully narrates, it’s the best of America.
Daz I'm surprised that these instant karma clips has never shown Jack Lambert slamming Cliff Harris to the turf in Superbowl 10. That was instant karma that fired up the Steeler's defense, Lambert was one man you didn't want to piss off.
I would think of throwing at a batter the same way I think of a fight in hockey. It’s a way for the players to police their game, most often the “unwritten rules”
The 100 yard interception is revenge because he slowed down at the end and lost possession before he scored making it a tough back and gave me ball to the other team.
Yeah Atlanta may be the best team in baseball currently and are near the top in average attendance. So you definitely wouldn't see a crowd like that for a current game with the Brewers
And btw Aidan when a pitcher hits a batter with a fastball it is almost certainly on purpose. If they throw a curve or something sometimes it gets away from them yes. But these guys have been throwing a ball into a 2x1 foot box for decades they don't miss that badly. Especially when the ball has no movement on it at all.. just a straight fastball . That clip of A rod getting hit was definitely on purpose. It isn't like a random guy like you or me throwing a pitch.. they can locate their pitches within centimeters of where they want it 90% of the time. Normal baseball score is about 4-5 runs per team. But because there is no clock or anything it could end up being 10 or 20 just depends on the game and the teams playing.
Yes if you get hit by the pitch you go to first base, also scores usually single digits,if it goes double digits it stays low 15 would be a very high score ties are not allowed, and theyre called runs not points.
If you get hit by a pitch you get first... it's called HBP (Hit By Pitch).... but in that Bautista clip he wasn't hit... the ball went behind him so he doesn't get the base. But throwing behind a batter is usually always on purpose.
Didn’t show it but in hockey there was a moment when a fan made fun of a player who got a puck or stick to the face then later in the game the same fan ended up getting hit by a puck that went over the boards so the player from before came by to make fun of him. (player name is steve sullivan)
They are runs.. not points. And yes if you get hit by a pitch you go to first base. That ball went completely behind Bautista. Also it is rare for a pitcher to accidentally almost hit someone 2 times in a row. Its usually intentional at that point. But its also true that a pitch can get away from a pitcher. Plus some pitchers have pinpoint accuracy.. and some are wild. Usually the younger guys
The Phillies had 19 runs v the Nationals 4. I believe the Angels had 25 runs a week ago v the Rockies, which is rare. 12 runs isn’t rare & are usually fun games, especially if both teams are going back and forth every inning (In baseball & softball you have Runs, not points)
If you get hit by the ball you take first base like a walk. However, if the all makes contact with any part of the bat, even without you swinging it, it's a foul ball instead.
Hitting batters also depends on the situation. Sometimes it is accidental but things like rivalries and payback scenarios makes it more obvious that it was on purpose.
Yeah most of the time when pitchers hit the batter it is on purpose. Watch "unwritten rules of baseball" this is basically a punishment for the other team breaking an unwritten rule. Sometimes the ball gets away from the pitcher, but usually it is intentional.
Just like DerexPDX pointed out - that pitch to Bautista actually went behind him - i had to look again - because at first it looks like it nailed him but it actually goes behind him - but Daz you are correct - if it hit him - he would walk to first base.
If the batter is hit by a pitch and wasn't swinging at it, he is awarded 1st base. But Bautista wasn't hit by the pitch in the video shown; it passed close to him and either bounced off the catcher's glove or the umpire and was called a wild pitch and a Ball. But in Batista's mind the pitcher was trying to hit him.
If the ball goes into the end zone after they stripe it it’s a touchback so it’s not a touchdown nor that teams ball and it’s not something u want to happen
Sometimes a pitcher is struggling with their control and it results in hitting people despite their mastery. Trevor Bauer is a Cy Young winner who is currently playing in Japan and he talks about it a lot as it is his main issue rn
Bautista wasn’t hit in that clip. Some of the clips where the batter was hit then hit a home run happened at different at bats later in the game. If you’re hit you take the base.
Batters get hit all the y, sometimes it's intentional, most times it's not. Pitchers are accurate, but the ball doesn't always go where they want. It they were so accurate, every pitch would be strike
That's not true at all. Pitchers purposefully throw outside of the strike zone on breaking balls and other pitches with lots of motion to get batters to chase it.
Scoring a touchdown from the 5 yard line is in no way guaranteed. It happens all the time where teams get stopped from even closer in... Watkins could have easily cost them 3 or 4 points depending on if they scored a td or fg. You CANNOT do that shit lol.
The Ben Watson chase down was an incredible play (broncos vs Patriots clip) but I don't agree with it being in this video. It isn't karma or revenge really .. it isn't like Champ Bailey wasn't hustling or had done anything to show up the Pats. He just didn't see Watson and Watson ran his absolute hardest and made an incredible stop. Just a good hustle play from an underrated player. Idk just doesn't fit with the rest of the video. If Bailey had showboated like Watkins in the first clip it would make more sense. He just genuinely thought he was home free and didn't realize he needed to run his absolute hardest STILL. And no it wouldn't have been a touchdown. Your entire body can be in the end zone if the ball itself doesn't cross the line you haven't scored. And when it goes out the endzone like that its called a touchback (same as when they kick off and it goes out of bounds or the returner takes a knee) and New England retains possession albeit back at their own 20.
