When Glen had his weekly show, he always, always, made guest musicians feel his equal when with rare exception, they were not. A kind, humble, self deprecating musical genius that Alzheimer's disease took from the world way too soon. Fil, another candid, heart felt analysis. Well done sir!

Alice Cooper's commentary about Glen not long after his passing made it very clear how much he was revered by those in the industry, even though the public at large was only partially aware of it. He was an unbridled monster on the guitar, and a remarkable human being... we all lost something when he passed.

When people talk the greatest guitarists of all time you'll hear names like Jimmy Page and Randy Rhodes etc.... And yeah they were great in their own ways. But any list of the truly greatest guitarists of all time should include the names Glen Campbell and Roy Clark or this list is not only incomplete, it's inaccurate. Campbell could play the bagpipes and Clark could play pretty much anything with strings to include the fiddle. Oh, and both of them were great at not only country music but other types as well.

Oh my god, I'm speechless. On a 12 string? ? It should be against the law to have that much natural talent. When I was a kid my mom loved Glenn Campbell. She had all of his albums, and I remember watching his weekly television show. It wasn't until my late teens that I discovered Glenn Campbell the musician and his association with the Wrecking Crew. His contributions to the guitar and music in general is is immeasurable.
@Freempg
@Freempg 5 лет назад
@scott mcgregor The debut of Glen Campbell's "the Good Time Hour" featured musical guest "Cream". After the show, Eric Clapton and Glen jammed, Eric freestyle riffing with Glen following, straight picking every note. A writer for the show who saw it said the musicianship was "extraordinary". PS: The head writer (comedy) for the The Good Time Hour was Mason Williams, composer of "Classical Gas".

What you refer to as "natural talent" is the end product of thousands of hours of practice. Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers cites the ten thousand hour rule as the magic number of greatness. Or put another way by Bryan Adams in the Summer of '69 "played it 'til my fingers bled".

As amazing as Glen Campbell's being a member of The Wrecking Crew and sometimes recording on 3 different hit songs in the 50's/60's in 3 different studios in a day's time (18 hours), it pales in comparison to his battle with Alzheimers. Even though in his final years he would forget words to one of his songs, forget his childrens' names or his wife's name, up until the end he retained his guitar playing ability. Somehow the part of the brain that stores those memories were last affected by the horrible disease of Alzheimers. The special Glen Campbell did on Alzheimers was eye opening and a chance to hear Glen play his guitar so beautifully and effortlessly.

No cancellation of the show just yet though - still hoping the 'SHOW WOULD GO ON" (sorry bit of pink floyd ism there). Well to get to the punchline he and the band (the touring part - there was a local contingent of conservatorium players - all good muso's) arrived with 10 minutes to spare - so no soundcheck - and proceeded to spank us all with his talent. Because he played on so many sessions with the Wrecking Crew from Elvis to Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra he was able to play every genre music. You have a very lovely style. I really enjoyed listening to you. You are very respectful. Thanks. Love Glen Campbell! I saw him perform at the fair, once. He kept changing instruments. He played each beautifully. Then, when he brought out the bagpipes, he said, "I know you all are thinking there is no beginning to this man's talent!" What a great guy! That was the best concert, ever!!

What a privilege to witness such guitar mastery in action and to know that he also possessed a wonderful voice that could sing anything and also be so humble about his fantastic musical talents. Thanks for such marvellous memories Glen, your musical legacy will always be greatly admired and never forgotten. RIP Glen.

Glen Campbell - oh my god, where do you start. So underrated yet insanely naturally talented. A joy to watch and listen to. He was an acoustic genius AND basically a total bad-ass shredder! And that voice too. Thanks for this video, so great that people still get to hear about these people who were stratospherically talented

Great memories when popular music showed true talent. Thank you, Mr. Glen Campbell. You are missed...but we will always have "Wichita Lineman" and all the greats.

I never played guitar, or any other instrument, save for some trumpet lessons. However, just listening to, and watching such artists as Glen, makes clear how hard work, practice and God given talent will make you the best at your craft. To watch his hands and fingers move with such precision is awe inspiring. You really NEED to watch and listen to the performance several times to fully appreciate the few minutes of pure nirvana. RIP, Glen. Jamming in the hereafter with Roy and the rest.

Just discovering your vids, Fil, and enjoy your commentary. There's a video of "Gentle on My Mind" with Leon Russell (another great Wrecking Crew alumnus). I have just discovered your channel and I am in awe of the job you are doing. I am a musical illiterate and I love this video as well as the one you did on Glen Campbell and Roy Clark. I had the great honor, about 15 years ago, of acting in a commercial that Glen did for a set of his DVD's. So you had the great Glen Campbell and about 25 would be actors who were playing the role of audience. One might think that Glen might do his performance part of the show and keep to himself the rest of the time. Not so. He mingled with all of us as if we were his friends and neighbors. I was so very impressed with the human side of this great hugely talented artist.
