If Vincent Furnier had class , he would use his real name , and not some made up gibberish with a girls name. What a poser . Get a real job where you actually have to work, Vinnie. LOL
I'm glad you're still around Alice. First heard you guys at 17. Now, I'm about to turn 70. And I appreciate your unabashed relationship with Jesus. Thanks man.
I first met Alice and his wife at my folks house for his 44th birthday. Eaten dinner at his house with the whole family, including his mom. Got pictures in front of his Christmas tree etc. Been to his house maybe a dozen times over the last 30+ years.
@@georgeforeman9666 For a Christian and singing about Dead Babies and a few other note worthy songs. I love the dead, Go to hell, Cold Ethel. Oh well even Christians need to make a buck.
One of the best interviews of any celebrity I have ever seen. Alice Cooper is so honest, and so comfortable. I think the interview made him feel good to say what he said about Glen Campbell. He is such a genuine person. He clearly misses his good friend. Nicely done.
Norm Marier he did a show on a radio station here in Dublin for too short a time, he had a story about every band he played on the show , he was great to listen to.
He seems that way because he is. I could listen to him talk for days. He knows everybody who is somebody and has known them since they were nobody. Top of the line human.
the non-existent lord of jack shit had nothing to do with this, could you leave your childhood fairy tale beliefs in your toy box and let the adults talk without fantasies injected into intelligent caring thought. ty
@@grantandrew9308 What makes you so smart that you can make such a pompous remark? Don't forget, Cooper became a Christian and would likely agree with 1987garfield. Also, how do you know all of the comments here were made by what you call 'adults' which I assume means non believers? I guess it is comforting to think everybody here with the exception of 1978garfield is of your belief system.
@@normanacree1635 Nothing pompous about it, tell me what you think is pompous as you seem to fit that description far better than I and that is exactly what I have meant from my comment. IT IS pompous and self serving of religious morons to PUT THEIR IDIOT opinions out there as though they are facts. THEY LACK ALL FACTUAL CONTENT> GOT that MR Pomparse! I have assumed nothing, you admit your assumptions and as such you are wrong and again prove how pompous you are. please tell me where I am pompous. IF YOU put your opinions "out there" then you open the door to others and my opinions and factual beliefs. Pull your head out of your brainwashed infantile fairy tales and shut your pompuSSSSs pie hole, sonny. PS I have no belief system, it is a non-belief in all of the very many gods that brainwashed children believe. BRAINWASHING of children is EVIL!!!!
A great interview. it's obvious Alice has a deep and loving respect for Glen. That's what true friendship is all about. Glen was lucky enough to have Alice a part of his life. Good to see both gentlemen as Alice says 'Come out the other side "
Back in the late 80s- early 90s I was a Flight Attendant and had Alice Cooper on the plane a couple of times. The first time I spoke to him I was impressed. He was a wonderful passenger. I also overheard him and his manager talking investments. The man is brilliant respectful and down to earth when not on stage.. I found out after the first flight that he's Christian and I was thrilled.
I love Alice Cooper. I listened to him so much in the 1970’s. I loved his work, his theatricality and his intellect. What a musician! What a character.
Thanks for posting this entire interview. Big thumbs up to the interviewer who simply asked some good questions and let him talk. This is a rare, honest, heartfelt story about a genuine friendship between 2 people who happen to be really famous musicians.
I'm so glad I came across this interview with Mr. Cooper. It was kind of him to share his memories of Mr. Campbell and give sincere, thoughtful responses to the interviewer's questions. I appreciate that, very much.
Because thats someone who will never leave you , who died so we can all live again. GLEN KNEW THAT, ALICE KNOWS THAT, MY PRAYER IS AS BOB DYLAN SAYS."How can we b deceived when the truth's in our heart's and we still don't believe.Shine your light on me, I just couldn't make it by myself I'm a little 2 blind 2 see"
My most disliked place is the same place. We (those of us not deluded by gods everywhere) do NOT need "any media platform attainable" used as personal preaching podium of OPINIONS stated as though fact. KEEP your idiot religious beliefs to yourselves and others will NOT feel compelled to rubbish your brainwashed unfounded infantile beliefs in AN ALMIGHTY. Mighty useless!!
@@andrewhindley7548 but how do you know that's the correct God out of the hundreds if not thousands throughout the history of mankind? Every culture has their own God, maybe you just happen to belong in the culture that it was prevalent. I used to think the same way but I need more proof now. They're just too many unanswered questions to throw my entire belief system into one corner. As one famous great thinker said, I don't want to believe I want to know.
Alice Cooper is such a genuine guy. As a young boy on holiday in the south of France in 1985, my father had a Glen Campbell cassette. It was played over and over for 2 weeks during that holiday. Now being 40 years old, I listen to Glen’s greatest hits. RIP Glen Campbell you were a wonderful family man.
Met a few celebs in my 52 yrs as amateur as & semi pro athlete. The only time I was truly impressed was meeting Alice Cooper in Tucson in 1999. He and triple crown world champion Alexis Arguello in Ft Lauderdale 1991. They would be a bit more than average celebrities. All class, and character. And as tactful as can be. If Joe Di Maggie is classiest baseball player, Alice & the the late Champ would likely take that prize Many have met both, and people always say of either man “the coolest
Wow! Did not know Alice and Glen came to the Lord. Always loved and respected their music. Didn't know they were close. This is one of the nicest most honourable stories I have ever heard of. Cheers!
+Alice Cooper is saying the right words at the beginning of this video: "I think it's a relief for Glen and the family." He talks as a friend of Glen Campbell, and what he says about his friend ARE the words of a true friend. Thank you, Alice Cooper, for sharing this with all fans of Glen, me included. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.)
I think he had reasons for that. If your best friend dies, you do not want to look onto the dead body of the one you loved so much. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.) PS: This is quite natural, the funeral is for the one who died, not for those who loved him the most.
diver dave: His wife Kim Woollen was there, was that not enough. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.) PS: Please bear in mind: This was when Glen Campbell passed away, only his wife had the right to say goodbye to her husband upon his grave.
I loved Glen Campbell. In 1971 I bought an ovation guitar that was called the Glen Campbell special. That guitar is now 50 years old. I play it to this day and still love the sound, thank you Glenn, and thank you Alice for the respect that you show!
The Ovation guitar was developed by aircraft engineer Charlie Kaman using aerospace composite material instead of traditional wood construction. Charlie Kaman was a professional guitarist. He turned down an offer to be guitarist with the Tommy Dorsey orchestra in order to pursue his business of developing a unique helicopter based on a WWII German design. Years later, he used the latest thing in aircraft structural technology to go back to his roots, and he developed a space-age guitar.
He didn’t have RU-vid or tab books or video lessons to help him along. That is amazing. Old school guys that learned by ear have such an understanding of the guitar. It took a lot of effort to learn things back then.
So blown away that Alice Cooper said evh wanted guitar lessons from glen Campbell. What a nice thing to pass along. Those of us who don't really know these musicians never could have guessed that. Loved Loved both EVH and glen Campbell. Never see talent like that again
Glen, Eddie, and Alice HUGE fan of all 3 Literally 70s, 80s, and 70s-80s in that order. EXCELLENT PEOPLE ALL THREE not even considering music! Nice to see a Class Act. And here's three fine examples makes me a proud American, thank you
Cooper is such a generous, humble, and compassionate person. He had nothing but good things to say about David Cassidy as well. RIP Glen Campbell and thank you Alice Cooper.
Alice Cooper is such a good guy. If you haven’t seen it, watch his interview with Dan Rather. Probably one of the most misunderstood people in show business.
I remember getting out of Jr. high school 7th grade for the summer and Alice was the man. In 1972 all you could hear was School's Out blasting from every car radio, Always loved you Alice, I'm 57 and I've loved your music since I was 13!!!!!!!!
Same grade as u when "School's Out ", hit Lodi California . What a year 1972 was! Alice was the man for sure!!! He both, really scared me and fascinated me at same time. Never in a million years would I have put Campbell and Cooper together as best buds!!! What a great world we live in!! Thanks God!
I saw a concert of his, performing with his family a couple of years before he passed away. He needed a teleprompter to remember his lyrics, but his musicianship was perfect. His guitar and banjo skills were so entrenched in his brain that he still had it right to the end.
Alice Cooper is a down to earth human being who played and lived a rock star life professionally, but once the show was over he was just like a normal dude, and that is what I always respected about him. Very warm and nice wonderful heartfelt story and interview he gave here about the great late Glen. Cheers mate....and RIP Glen
I come back to this every once in awhile, just for a smile. To hear Alice tell things about Glen, not as a way to harm Glen, just to tell the truth speaks volumes about their friendship. I remember in the 70's reading all about things like his fling with Tanya Tucker, his drug addiction, and somehow he came through the other side where the sun shines, and it was really hard to watch the documentary because I saw my mom decline to nothing thanks to Alzheimer's. She was our church organist for 50 years, she had learned to play as a girl, and when we finally decided she couldn't live safely by herself we placed her in a nursing home. Her first few years there were great because she would sit down at the piano in the dining room to play and many of the residents would be drawn to the music. Her final 3 years she no longer recognized the piano or what it was for. It was a relief when she did pass away. She wasn't "living" when that time came. There has to be some great music in heaven when you think about all who made music are there when you get there. Rock and Roll will never die.
One of the most heartfelt, genuine and complete interviews I have ever seen involving musical legends and friends. You are a good man, Alice, and taught us some things about Glen that we may have not known. Thank you.
I have always had Glen in my heart since the days of my childhood when my Mother played his music. His music reached into the common Man's heart. At least, that's how it was for me, and seemed to be so for all those I knew. Witchita Lineman reached deep in me as a laborer/worker. He speaks to the heart of the Natural Man.
I've never been a fan of Alice Cooper's music but am a HUGE fan of everything else about him! What a great friend to Glen Campbell, a figure I saw on the TV as a very young girl and have only just come to appreciate as one of the greatest guitarists of our time.
HEY, for many years, in the early days, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan were close friends and often partied and played music together. Kind of a mutual respect type of thing I think..
I think Alice Cooper represents the highest pinnacle of integrity any performer could ever aspire to. I am sure Glen is smiling right now knowing he had a friend so stayed and true.
Alice Cooper and Glen Campbell - who would have thought they were close? It just goes to show you how talented Glen was, and honestly, Alice Cooper as well. Thank you Alice Cooper. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" doesn't apply here and it's spot on sir. Makes me respect your music even more.
Glenn Campbell was a member of the Wrecking Crew, the most important studio musician alumni "ever", enough said and untouchable. Slice Cooper is music history personified. If you dont appreciate these people, you just haven't done your homework.
I spent some time with Glen (and his wife Kim) one day and it was one of my most amazing experiences. He was so gracious, so humble, so entertaining as we talked about his music career, his film(s) (he said he was only happy with True Grit but humbly suggested he wasn't that good an actor, I thought he was GREAT!). So full of light, life and love we also talked about his faith and he sung a lil of a gospel song that was a number 1 hit and I got to sing along a lil'. What a thrill. I pray he is resting peacefully asleep in the Messiah... I love that man ... and Kim and his family ... HalaluYaH !
He told me this that he ... "Was hand-picked by actor John Wayne to play alongside him in the western film True Grit (1969)" ... "which gave him a Golden Globe nomination for "Most Promising Newcomer," and had a hit with the title song which was nominated for an Academy Award. He performed it live at that year's Academy Awards Show."
I'm a fan of good country but mostly a rock and roll fan from Detroit. Alice is right. Glenn was a legend. His guitar playing and his songwriting is legendary. Literally a legend lost. I can love crazy Alice and Kiss, and metal acts and Ozzy and Ramstein and Maiden and Slayer, SOAD, Tool, Korn, and Still say...Glen Campbell was one in a million. I love many songs of his, but "Try a little Kindness" is one that for me really resonates today. I wish we all would try a little more kindness. RIP Glen Campbell. Rock on Alice Cooper. And let us all be cool to each other eh? Be cool like a Rhinestone badass, with a side of kindness and a kickass hat. Much love my friends.
Ramstein is the place where the catastrophy took place, while "Rammsten" is the name of the band. -- Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.) PS: But I know and understand what you mean, ahepperl.
The best concert I ever attended was Alice at the Richmond Coliseum about 1975. A tremendous rainstorm kept people away; there were fewer than 500 people. They could have said "The hell with it" and walked off but they gave a show as if there were 100,000 attendees. Respect for the audience; respect for the artists.
It's nice to see someone of his fame interviewed, and for a change just be a regular honest and down to earth guy, not "putting on airs", not "being self scripted", but honest and even admitting his faith without reservations. Thanks Alice and God Bless you and your family.
First of all this is one of the better interviews of a celebrity I've ever seen. Why? Because it's the human side of the act. Everyone knows about Alice Cooper and the act when you go see him. This is a strong reminder to all of us that he is a human being just like you and me and he just wanted to share with others that human side also of him and Glen Campbell. It's sad that Glen Campbell passed away and unfortunately with the Alzheimers being the driving force. Alice Cooper strips off all of the act to explain what it was like to be with Glen Campbell as a friend and human being. And yes, who in the world could've imagine that these two guys were such good friends? We somehow can't imagine that these guys are just entertainers and it's just an act that they do that helps pay the bills and raise their families with. This is an honest interview and my appreciation to Alice Cooper for giving us the human side of himself and Glen Campbell. Gonna miss Glen. A true talent now gone but never forgotten. Thanks Alice.
I was 18 when "eighteen" came out. It was like our high school graduation anthem. I loved Alice Cooper, the band. They played serious rock and roll with a bit of a haunted house theme thrown in. They were a great show, toured every album back then and I never missed them when they were in town. Vince was/is a very normal guy in real life and I appreciate his friendship and respect of Glenn Campbell.
I graduated high school the spring 'School's Out For Summer' hit the charts. We cranked the car radio every time it was on and screamed along all that summer. As for Glen Campbell - what a guy!
I respect Alice Cooper's honesty and frankness about his life, career, religion and friendship with all kinds of people in the movie and music industry. Here's also a very very nice guy. I met him once and in the early 90's in downtown San Antonio. Very gracious man.
Wow, this interview just gave me a whole new level of respect for Alice Cooper. What I wouldn't give to have been at the 19th hole with them listening to their tales of the music business. A pleasant surprise was Alice's callout of Bobby Goldsboro, one of my favorites in the 60s and 70s. Memories indeed.
I met Vince in the Phoenix Airport in 1983 at the baggage carousel. Our bags were the last out and everyone was gone except my family and his. His little daughter was running around playing. A very nice man.
Thank you Alice. Glen was indeed a one-off. If you ever needed a frame of reference for great American music in the 20th century, Glen is the perfect example. What a talent! My mom has just been diagnosed with Alzheimers. The saddest thing is to watch the person you've known and loved all your life fading away, day by day. Very sad.
Vinny,Vinny,Vinny, Your heart is in the right place. Your lucky to know such a good man. Although you will be on tour while Glenn is laid to rest. Keep remembering he is in a better place. Each day is one day longer since you saw him and another day closer when you will see him again. Gods in control. Keep Rockin and God Bless Survivors.
Beginning in the 60s i saw many great musicians , singers , guitarists but Glen Campbell had the extremely rare ability to entertain you for hours with just his voice or just playing guitar or whatever instrument he picked up. He was a self taught entertainer in a league of his own. R.I.P. Glen
I was never an Alice Cooper fan, but I am now! What a really great guy!!! Shows that you cannot judge a book by it's cover. RIP Glen, and thank you Mr. Cooper for those great memories of Glen that you've shared with us. Vincent is a really cool guy.
I never realized how good a guitarist Glen Campbell was. Not only that he was also blessed with a singing voice that would have got him recognition without the guitar. Some guys get it all and he was humble and down to earth and about as graceful as could be. The good Lord has called him home and he’s up there a singing and a playing. RIP Glen.
Alzheimers and Dementia is hell on families, nobody should have to go through this. Been watching my mom go down hill for 8 years with no end in sight. It changes the families who go through it with their loved ones. Alice is a great guy. Met him on a golf course of all places.
How do you figure that there's a "should go through" to anything in life? What happens happens. There's no should or shouldn't. There's what you like and what you don't.
I am 65 and was recently diagnosed with MILD COGNITIVE DISORDER...it effects my short term memory the most.. but I have an amazing wife and 3 kids that understand and support me... but is really really sucks.
What a beautiful interview! I NEVER knew that Alice Cooper and Glen Campbell were such close friends, or that they even knew each other! Alice's obvious love for his friend shines throughout the whole interview without being sappy. RIP Glen Campbell, and keep on rockin' Alice Cooper!
Thanks Alice for the chat and the stories. You had the guts to mention the 'R' word, 'relief.' I've been concerned for years about his inability to enjoy life, but that was God's timing. I wish I could have met you and Glen. Glad to see your head on so straight and look forward to seeing you and Glen in heaven, making some kick butt praise music together cause that's what all of us musicians will be doing. Praise the Lord! 2 Timothy 4: 6-8.
