Something that amazes me is that different people can play the same instrument yet they infuse themselves in the performance so you can immediately know the musician without seeing them or having them identified for you. Stevie's harmonica playing is such a part of him.

Stevie Wonder is one of those people who are outside of music looking in. He may be blind, but he plays his audience, his band, and anyone else on stage like an instrument. He is talented beyond the definition of talent.

The first thing that came to my mind or came to my gut when I first heard this and I’ve heard this before, was that Stevie was expressing his love and appreciation for Sting and his composition….his understanding of this song meant that he’d really listened to it as only he could, to be able to riff in the way that he did. After all, he did start this performance by saying that he “loves this song.” Yeah, that was like having Stevie Wonder make love to your song… I can only imagine that sting felt very appreciated and loved by this gesture. One could say that Stevie Wonder has a additional love language or his original love language being music. He is music, he always was music from childhood…He’s just a gift from the gods. And for that, we say thank you.

It was said, that Stevie Wonder and Steve Perry recorded an inspirational album, in the mid 80s I believe. It was never released due the fact, the sound engineers are still standing in place with their mouths on the floor.

The only thing better than watching Stevie is watching the effect he has on someone who is captured by his performance.

Also liked the breaths Stevie took before singing the lines near the end of the song. It added a lovely nuance to the rhythm arrangement.

I was lucky enough to be in the Electric Lady Studios for the whole time it took to record Stevie’s Talking Book album. I was friends with Bob Margouleff and Malcolm Cecil. I even was assigned the job of taking Stevie to the restroom, lol. He is a genius. Watching him work was a thrill. During down times the head engineer put me in a sound room with headsets on to listen to unreleased Jimi Hendrix recordings.

I call Elton John, Billy Joel and Stevie Wonder the Big Three: The three best piano based songwriters of the 1970s. All three were active in the 1960s, especially Stevie Wonder. They each excelled in all categories of composition but I simplify it by saying that John was the best at the elusive “haunting” melody, Joel at Harmony and that Stevie Wonder was most Cerebral of the Three... Simplification because they wrote haunting melodies that were cerebral and with great harmonization... And Sting was probably the greatest songwriter from about 78 to the early 90s.

Do you or someone you know speak a second language so well that you don't hear the word "in English" and translate it, but your mind is innately plugged in to the other language, like you go into that "mode"? I truly believe that is how Stevie plays and sings music. A direct connection from his brain to the notes. That he doesn't think, "my finger needs to hit THAT key for the next note" -- but rather it comes directly from his brain to the playing and to the singing. He's unlike anyone. Perhaps the blindness intensified and intensifies it. It's an absolute wonder, what he does.

This was heavenly, I love to play around with my harmonicas. They are one of my favorite instruments. I always sit up and take note when I hear a song that includes one (them). That fifth, is so perfect. I thought it before you said it. I used to take my eldest son to a local harmonica club when he was about 12, but he dropped his interest, whilst I clung on. This song makes me want to buy my daughter a classical guitar to go with her others, LOL, I'm sure she'd be soooo upset, LOL. I've always absolutely worshipped this song. Sting is in the upper echelon on songwriters and musicians. He is genius, and so is Stevie. I mean, OMG. I remember laying on my couch in my college apartment crying, listening to the live broadcast of Sting's 40th birthday from the Hollywood Bowl. He had cancelled his performance the night before in Dallas on *my* own 21st birthday. I was heartbroken. (I can't find any evidence of this online, but I remember it all too well… hmmm)

We are the ones with a handicap since we cannot see the world like Stevie Wonder can, so we have to utilize our other sense of audition and go on the journey into Stevie's universe. I signed up and have frequent flier miles. Great analyses as always. Again, I read quite a bit of the comments, since you also have the best comments section on the You Tube, very respectful. Many don't like Sting, some liked him with the Police but even when you analyze their songs they were pretty selfish. But the commentors were quick to express their feeling but to still not lower themselves. I did watch another video analyses for the arthritic guitar player and of course that was the only video I will watch that he has done. Very nasty. He might have millions of subscribers though. He knew lots of guitar tricks. But he played the guitar like it was a toy since he has no soul. You have almost 100,000 but you cultivate people that respect people. You are the real deal. I choose my musical and performing arts intake carefully . I've spent most of my life touring North America. For 20 years,50weeks per , my life was rehearsals , writing , doing TV and radio interviews , traveling performing , studios.....I have dedicated my life to the performing arts . I have had the hardest time finding like minded persons . They don't have the time to dedicate so I go it alone. After you say ,"Let's get them up on screen and see how they get on...." ,I watch intently . I sit expressionless until my performance funny bone gets tickled and I shake my head a little . When I hear (or see) that certain something that made me become who and what I am , I start smiling . It's the primal thing that touches me. The funniest part is : I react exactly like you at the precisely the same time at exactly the same thing .I know that you see and are in the same mindset as me.
