Your analysis was very accurate, specially about the "barbershop harmonies" I wrote for the group. Our individual vocal ranges suited this type of arrangement so well when Judith Durham was mainly the lead vocalist. Also, when Bruce Woodley took the lead, it gave me the chance to voice Judith and me above his rich baritone range. Athol Guy was the consummate "Mr Bass man" and filled in the low range so perfectly. Thanks for giving our ORIGINAL SEEKERS project a mention too. We just keep having fun!

Always interesting to hear your comments Fil. Today is a sad day for Australia because Judith Durham, lead vocalist for The Seekers Passed away yesterday at the age of 79. The Seekers always were popular in Australia. As you mentioned, they have great vocal range, but Judith made the Seekers. She was an Australian living treasure and will be sadly missed.

That night after 50 years I became a fan ! They were nothing short of superb ! Brilliant musicianship and harmonies to die for. Judith Durham’s singing was as strong and perfect as it had ever been. The older I have become the more I appreciate these singers. Judith Durham and others like Karen Carpenter had truly amazing voices. There is a great video from 1965 of The Seekers singing (I’ll Never Find Another You) recorded live at Abbey Road Studios and it’s in color, watching Judith in this video and her confidence and pitch perfect voice just soaring above everything else and to think she was only in her mid- twenties. I came across this video of I’ll Never Find Another You only about a year ago and had to dedicate the song to my wife on her Facebook page.

As a 60s child I cannot think of any other group that evokes more potent and wonderful memories of that time than the Seekers. I think you are right, but the Bee Gees, Midnight Oil, Olivia, Reddy, ACDC and Icehouse still rank up there...and I like Kylie and Cave at lot. I think what is missing in this wonderful and enthusiastic video is just the general sensibility in the Aussie culture reflected in the music of all those artists for an almost utopian happiness, and honest well wishing, combined with a really strong individual spirit, but also a frank recognition of the dark side of humanity, a sort of weird combination not seen elsewhere...

Although this video is some 3 years old, I only just saw it for the first time today. Choked a little as we've only just lost Judith 😞. I enjoy Fil's analysess, as he covers works and artists from a variety of styles and genres. From the big beaming smile, the viewer can tell he's really enjoying what he is commenting on!! Really like it when I see comments from the performers themselves, so thank you for that Keith.

I prefer organic, all-natural music like that, over any of the heavily synthesized electronic crap that dominates popular music, today. Their singing is good enough, as a group, that they could carry a song without musical accompaniment.

@@suzannerobbins6293 Fil had to be influenced, he wasn,t even born in that magical era. His knowlegde is stunning! So sad the future generation is very musically uneducated, kids now have no idea what real music even was or is. 60,s & 70,s were like blessings in the music industry. The amount of great music that evolved during that era was unbelievable.

"Judith also plays piano". Understatement of the year! A LONG time ago I heard her start to play classical (Grieg) on piano and then transition into a rollicking version of the old ragtime hit "Nola". After the group went their separate ways, Judith recorded at least one Jazz album. MUCH more than just a "pretty face".

Hi Phil, you should try the Cowsills and their track: "The Rain in the Park and Other Things". Which they also did on Ed Sullivan. Had their father not been a monster and manager, they could have achieved so much more. Instead, all their earnings were stolen. They were also the inspiration for the Partridge Family.
