And so the Taliban is the Soviet Union's North Vietnam
@TheJthom9
@TheJthom9 3 года назад
@Christopher Ehlenfeld Taliban here we are referring to the unrecognised Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (1996-2001). However, the Taliban as a scholastic-militant-political group (turned insurgency) originated initially as a Saudi-funded and -indoctrinated scholastic group of Afghan refugees in Deobandi madrasahs in Pakistan during the Soviet-Afghan War (hence the name 'Taliban' originally from Arabic for 'students'). They combined Deobandi Islamic revivalism, Saudi Wahhabi-Salafism and Muslim Brotherhood ideology (US-funded apex of cooperation in the form of a global geopolitical Pan-Islamist enterprise (Petro-Islam)); Salafi jihadism from the Afghan Arabs (Salafi jihadist Arabs who voluntarily traveled to Afghanistan to fight with the Mujahideen, including Azzam, al-Zawahiri and bin Laden); and Pashtunwali (Pashtun culture and customs).
@TheJthom9
@TheJthom9 3 года назад
@Christopher Ehlenfeld I am not confused, however, I do not understand your confusion. I did not and would not conflate the Taliban and Mujahideen. I am aware of both their histories. I repeat what I said in my comment, "... Taliban as a scholastic-militant-political group (turned insurgency) originated initially as a Saudi-funded and -indoctrinated scholastic group of Afghan refugees in Deobandi madrasahs in Pakistan during the Soviet-Afghan War (hence the name 'Taliban' originally from Arabic for 'students')." ('Turned insurgency' I mean the second militant phase of the Taliban's timeline (2001-present)). I only mentioned the Mujahideen in the small bit of context it has to the doctrine of the two militant phases of the Taliban's timeline (1994-96; 2001-present). Why do you conflate my references to the Taliban and Mujahideen here? I know that the funders and educators of the early formulation of this group would not have put much emphasis on them at that stage as they would only become relevant in 1996. The Taliban originated amongst Afghan Pashtun refugees in Pakistani madrasahs during the Soviet-Afghan War, this is undisputed. Some of the first Taliban militants were teachers, including Mohammed Omar. The Mujahideen, on the other hand, was a loose confederation of guerrilla rebels in Afghanistan fighting for global and regional defensive militant jihadism with some in the group funded and indoctrinated by the US-Saudi-Pakistani wartime economic alliance, most of whom where Pashtuns but many were 'Afghan' Arabs. I am aware of the subsequent three civil wars in Afghanistan after the Soviet Union pulled out (1989-92; 1992-96; 1996-2001), and their differing factions, causes and outcomes.

Bin laden taught the Somali's how to fight the US...they put it to use in an incident known as Blackhawk Down
@jeffburnham6611
@jeffburnham6611 3 года назад
Shows you know little about what happened there. The UN sent in a force of 20,000 US Marines to restore order to Mogadishu and get the supplies of food flowing to its people that Mohamed Farrah Aidid had been seizing. Over 300,000 Somali's died because of this lunatic Aidid. It wasn't until the Marines pulled out that Aidid began targeting Pakastani UN Peacekeepers. Somali's didn't know anything about fighting, and during the incident that shot down those Blackhawks with RPG's, thousands of Somali's died in the process compared to 18 US personnel (Rangers, SOAR and Delta Operatives).

You should watch something on "Operation Desert Storm" which was the U.S. war with Iraq when they invaded Kuwait. I don't think it even took weeks. I remember that it took something like 72 hours to really "win" and then it might have taken a few weeks to fully wrap it up. I was a little kid at the time and didn't understand anything going on, but I do remember seeing news footage of the war. Most Americans are tired of being in the Middle East, and would love to get out. But it's complicated, and I think we're going to be stuck there for a while. The whole terrorism aspect means that we'll always have a presence there to some degree, and we're allies with Israel, so there's that too. The good thing is that the U.S. has plenty of oil on its own soil, so we don't have to depend on Saudi Arabia anymore...like he mentioned at the end of the video.

trylikeafool Yeah, there’s also the problem of other countries in the area (like Saddam Hussein) wanting to take over whole countries like Saudi Arabia & would then control 30/40% of the world’s oil market. The Middle East may not like us there, but they probably don’t want us to really leave the region either. At least the powers that be don’t want it.

And Pakistan is biding its time. As soon as the US leaves, Pakistan will stop resisting the Taliban on both sides of the Durand line, so it can be relieved of the blowback terrorism it has been and is currently experiencing from playing this double-game. Pakistan needs the Taliban in power so it has an ally instead of an enemy (allied to India) on its doorstep. The Taliban have this exact same intention; they once said to the US, 'You have the watches, but we have the time'

The US did not go to the middle east to "Get oil" in recent times. The US has always had the biggest oil reserves on the planet. It is a geopolitical headache to get foreign oil by such a method when we could just buy it from OPEC.

I promise you Luka, you’re not the only one who is ignorant. I learned a few things myself (yank here). In his farewell address, George Washington warned us against “foreign influence and corruption”. Although having allies was good, we should be on good terms with all nations: “inveterate antipathies against particular Nations, and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded.” He also warned against loyalty to a party rather than loyalty to the nation. I guess we’re not that good at comprehension.

@danor6812
@danor6812 3 года назад
Yeah, that's called a "movie" Hollywood's version of the truth. The best example I can give you. Is the movie "Fly Away Home". Hollywood term; "It's based on actual events". A movie about a girl and her dad who build an ultralight plane to have geese follow her. The truth part? Someone bought an ultralight plane and had geese follow them. The facts? Scientist wanted to figure a way to re introduce some endangered migratory birds back to different areas. A group of scientist did this. Not some little girl and her daddy. But a little girl and her dad will make a better movie. Much like "Charlie Wilson's War". Facts about that movie? The war in Afghanistan happened. The rest was made up by the writers of the book/script. By the way, The book is fiction as well.

Great video to react to. My people, the Assyrians, have been pushed to near extinction fighting wars for England, then USA in the Middle East. With each war, they were promised sovereignty for having their back and fight their battles. Of course they didn’t keep their promises and allowed the Ottoman Empire to kill off Assyrian men, women and children. Many had to walk out of the country of Iraq and Iran (like my own family, many walked to Russia) which many died on this journey. Actually, after WWI Europe did offer sovereign land for Assyrians in the rainforest in South America where head hunting was prevalent. Hmmmm I wonder why. Assyrians were like, heck no why would we leave our ancestral home to be killed off across the world.

You'll get comments from mainly Americans (but some 'patriotic' Europeans too) about how he's biased but this is the reality. If you conducted your own research you would find basically what he says in videos. There's a bit of a missing chunk there with the Iran-Iraq War... I suppose that becomes more important with the second part. Eventually the US stopped listening to the British with regards to mid-east 'planning' and adopted a "we'll roll with what's here, please let us do business (wink wink nudge nudge) and we'll try to be helpful guests as long as our long-term interests don't override your importance." Whereas the Soviet Union never seemed to drop the "Join the club or die trying not to" bluntness. Which is part of the surprise with the Iranian revolution because Iran started to roll along with the Soviets... who were just as bluntly secular and at times brutally anti-religious and wouldn't have blinked at starting to squash islam if there was a perceived need and enough influence.

The biggest base in Germany (Ramstein) located near Kaiserslaturen used to be called "Little America" Although recently a lot of the Americans have been moving to different areas around K-Town. American bases a lot of the time help keep local communities up and running so when a base closes that area is significantly hurt by it (Not always but a lot of the times) Even bases in the states that close end up as ghost towns unless local townships purchase the land to repurpose them. Most bases don't do well with getting repurposed Pease AFB in New Hampshire was home to the bomber unit that dropped the A-Bombs and was a massive base, it's one of the few "success" stories of a base being repurposed successfully.

The Jakarta Method - Concerns American support for the Indonesian mass killings of 1965-66, during which an estimated one million communists, suspected communists, Chinese Indonesians, and others were killed, and subsequent replications of the strategy in Latin America and elsewhere. The killings in Indonesia by the American-backed Indonesian forces were so successful in culling communism that the term "Jakarta" was later used to refer to the genocidal aspects of similar, later plans.

None of what the narrator said is wrong but it is incredibly generalized and one sided in what it leaves out. Especially the interplay between the US/UK/France in making many of these decisions. Also leaves out US relationships with the arab countries and israel before the significant buildup in SA.

hmm up to 3 minutes basic hx ok ( colonial powers created the countries until then only nomadic tribes held sway ) then moved to the US in the 30'e. interesting. WW! blamed on oil- but that was not why- oil came more in play in WW2, in fact WW1 was Germany, Astro-Hungarian Empire and Italy. the middle east dot he talks about is a business. strange it turned into a War Complex-WOW>.. In the 30's the US did not have a significant base just about anywhere but south america and the Philippians . Remember the sun never set on the British empire... this video is a wholesale rewrite of US history , this is the Big Lie.

Well, he's a bit biased by titling his video with "stole." I've never seen his videos, but I get the sense that he's not a big fan of Israel either. (Speaking of mini-US cities, that's essentially what Ramstein, Germany is. You should check out Wendover Production's video about overseas US bases; also their video about how aircraft carriers work is cool, too.)

This is surface level research and bias narrative upon historical events. The author forgot to substantiate his thesis. He misses the multitude of additional government interventions in order to solve two problems that occurred after WWII. I recommend he reads the now unclassified National Security Strategies of 1955 through 1970. NSS 1968 is probably the best summarized document. The problems pushing the US in the middle east was containment of communism while european empires closed out their deals. Most importantly was why a coups was arranged in Syria by the US. To pay for the Martial Plan and rebuild Western Europe. (a success to date) While heartstrings point to oil impacts on domestic issues. Policy preserved the national energy reserves where they deterred aggression from further industrial level wars throughout the Cold War. The story is always bigger than the first time we look at a topic. Read More and Talk Hard =)
