In case you didn't know, the Hudson Bay Company which was founded in England and created much of Northern Canada was first and foremost a fur trading company dealing in beaver pelts.

The reason beaver fur was so popular, in the UK especially, was because beavers being aquatic animals, had fur that was water repellent - better than any other type of fur. I'm sure you can understand why that was such an important feature for people living in the UK. 😂

I’m 38 yrs old and retired from the US Army. I served with the 82nd and XVIII Airborne. We jumped during the day, night, during storms, during morning, during the pitch black night with storms. Let’s say we’re just crazy man 😂 But Beavers??!!

The chapter 1 title "Nice Beavers" is almost certainly a reference to the 1988 movie "The Naked Gun." You missed a joke at the end of the video. In the early 1800s, when beaver hats were still fashionable, both the U.S. and the Hudson Bay Company of the UK, which operated in Canada, made enormous profits from the trade in beaver pelts. The desire to control more land in northwestern U.S. and western Canada was a complication in the two countries negotiations to decide where the U.S.-Canada border would be. The video "The Pig War" by "Oversimplified" tells a funny part of this story.

That $30 bucks would be roughly $523 per Beaver in today's US currency. That's still pretty cheap when you think of what the Beavers did for the environment. Of course, will all know because of crazy regulations it would be millions per animal today

Converted to modern value, that $30 would be approximately $523 if you use 1945 or $390 if you use 1950. Definitely not $30 but still very cost effective.

Edit, $30 in 1948 was equivalent to about $380 in 2023, the calculator didn't have 2024. People do things during disaster probably for the same reason as the beaver who jumped at 75 feet: panic. Panic takes away reason in humans, too, especially in any high stress, highly unfamiliar, highly dangerous event. Poor beaver. At least he didn't jump at 30 and just get badly hurt.
