Homes in the U.S. that are right next to the water like that can really be expensive! I'm sure that home likely was expensive, especially being right on the lake! But, you need to see a video that shows the homes and neighborhoods of lower income and poor people in the U.S. so that you're not totally disillusioned.

This is an above average home. Not everyone has a lake out back. Even if it is above normal, it isn't too far out of line. My kitchen (now I'm retired) is a simple two sided galley kitchen. But the two houses before were actually larger than this one. And the neighbor did have a pond on their property. LOL!!

Used to live in an Old Victorian house, it had a central vacuum system, there was air suction in the walls so no need for vacuum cleaner just the nozzle it was also haunted by the ghost of a little girl who sat in the kitchen, but she didn't bother anybody

Not all American homes have mailboxes on a post by the street. Those are only common in outer suburbs and rural areas. In the cities and inner suburbs, the letter carrier walks from door to door. Mail is delivered to a mail slot [same as a UK letter box] or a mail box mounted on the wall next to the front door.

Yeah, we have that type of window as well. The term here is a "Casement Window". The screen is mounted on the inside. A crank at the bottom of the frame opens and closes the window. No need to touch the screen.

She isn't French. She's an American who lives in France. I don't know if her husband is French or he's there for work but she's about to show us her mom's home, maybe the home she grew up in. This is representative of an upper middle class home or at least someone who lives in an area where you get more bang for your buck.

Also, the mailbox is (loosely) considered to be federal property - that way people can be punished for stealing or tampering with someone’s mail. Also - it’s actually illegal to open someone else’s mail. Hard to enforce, but true. 😉

I know it may seem weird to someone in the UK that most US homes have air conditioning, but the thing to remember is that the entire contiguous 48 states are all further south than London.

If you live in a rural area, you can even buy stamps directly from your mail carrier. As an added bonus, which most Americans don’t even know about or utilize , is that you can also give your mail person packages if it already has the proper paid postage. (call your local Post Office first to ask about the restrictions & requirements for your specific area) If you are friendly with your mail carrier, you can even get special outgoing mail/package pickup if you’re not ready by the time they arrive at your house or business. Sorry, my husband was a rural mail carrier for 11 years before going into management where he now runs 2 local post offices in California.

In florida having a screen on the window is a lifesaver when the power goes out from storms. The mosquitoes are savage.

These windows are called double hung. Ours are 2 panes of glass, with a sealed center section between them filled with a gas. They are very energy efficient. She did not mention that on the top of each section on both sides there are tabs that when slid toward the center allow the window to become free from the frame at the top so they can tilt in to be cleaned without even going outside. Some have blinds build in between the panes so that they remain clean and don't get broken by pets etc. They are very easy to replace as well. There is no way I'd use a window without good screens, fresh air in the home is great!

Italians have windows that open out and retractable screens. It's stored in the window frame and they pull out the screen when they want it.

Lady is speaking about living in France compared to a huge ass property here in the States, which I don't think is a fair comparison when most people aren't going to be living that life. The ice thing, while it's true that we always have ice on hand, in most cases, the single upper maker is enough, and funnels out that front apparatus. In the case of the TVs, she's positively delusional at that point. Yes, a lot of houses have multiple TVs, but most aren't going to have a 'workout TV' and a 'bedroom TV' in the same room. And a lot of us are reducing how many TVs are in the house just because of our computers and phones taking over. The car thing is also rich person delulu. The A/C thing comes down to that we need it in most places in the USA, whether it's 2 months out of the year or 10 months. A lot of this country is more desert than it looks due to irrigation. Where I live, we get both extremes: We can hit 115F in the summer, and -10F in the winter. That's 46C and -23C. We also have different systems, depending on the type of building. On the east coast, a lot of infrastructure is older and takes a lot of work to add central heating/cooling, so they rely on radiators/window coolers, or rolling/portable heaters/coolers. The further west you go, the more modern the building infrastructure, and thus the more likely it is that central heating/cooling will be built in.

8:11 you can get ice in cubes, crushed cubes or pellets.. I prefer the pellets as they're small and easy to chew but they're not a lot of ice 'dust' from the crushed cubes.

we have LOTS of windows that swing out to open, but still have screens. theres a little crank usually below the window you wind and the window itself is moved by gears to open and close so the screen can remain in place. that and most screens are built into the window frame in a way that makes removing them for any reason quick and painless as long as the window is already open. makes them easy to clean, and easy to repair or replace if needed too. so easy to remove, they arent even considered an obstruction in a window that is also a legally mandated fire escape. if you can lift a cup of tea, you can get through a window screen lol.

Mailboxes are ok, but they are a pain to get close to in your car to check them, and if you get snowplows in winter, they absolutely DEMOLISH your mailbox, and they dont pay for damages 😆

The button on the refrigerator to change the temperature in the freezer and the. Refrigerator mine also has where I can change the temperature in the refrigerator part to have two different areas with different temps.

I'd say having 4+ TVs really isn't common. 2I think 2 is very common - it's popular to have a living room/family room TV and a bedroom TV. Beyond that I'd say it gets less and less common. The only place I've personally been to with more TVs was my grandma and grandpa's old house. They had 3 regular TVs and one very tiny one up on top of the fridge. We regularly had get-togethers there with 20-25 people though, so that was generally why.

Actually a screen can work for those windows your described. At my old house the screen was in the wall and retractable. So while it was connected to the sliding window it was detachable since it was inegrated into the wall. You could theoretically have it in the wall in ireland and slide it up after the window is opened. It could be possible Also shes likely not showing the backyard because most americans dont have private lake access. We dont just build lakes behind every home xD. So its not really a typical american feature

This is not a typical home. We all don't have $1,000 sink faucets, $3,500 refrigerators, or two cars for every person.

Windows that open out!! We use to have this in the US, but they've mostly been replaced by the "double-Hung" windows. But in reply to your comments.. we had two versions of those "open out" windows.. and both had screens. HOW??? you ask.. well because American inventors are amazing!!. The manual type had a rod that was attached to the bottom of the sash of the window. The rod had a hinge on it. So when the window was closed, the rod could bend on the hinge and would lock into a hook that was attack to the inside of the frame. When you wanted to open the window you just lifted the rod and pushed the rod toward the window. The rod would slide through a small hole in the bottom of the frame, below the screen, and since the rod was attached to the sash of the window itself, it would push the window open. The rod usually had a couple different locking points so you could open the window a little, a little more, a little more or fully open. The other version opened on a crank. So you still had a small rod which was only for latching the window close. The once you release the latch, you had a crank. The crank mechanism again worked through the frame of the window, away from the screen. As you turned the crank the window would open. These type usually opened sideways {left to right or right to left} instead of being pushed out from the bottom like the manual version above. When you wanted to close the window you just cranked the opposite way and once it was near closed you just slide the latching bar over and it would lock the window shut.

Don't forget the TV in the garage. Some of my neighbors have TV's in their garage as well as a screen for their garage door, not to mention a pool table, dart board and refrigerator. Man Cave!

5:51 we have all kinds of windows that open all kinds of different ways. casement windows (like you were describing) that open side ways or from the top or bottom, out and they usually don't have screens, but you can get some with a retractable screen to put into place after you open the window on the inside.

My parents had a lake house. It was nice walking out the back door, across the yard, and onto the pier where you could choose from one of the three boats he had, to go out for a day on the lake. I would usually load my family onto the 24 ft pontoon. Sometimes I would just go out by myself, and I'd take the 12 ft semi V to go fishing. The other boat was strictly my fathers, it was a 19 ft bass tracker. He also had a 19 ft cuddy cabin, but he mainly used it for trolling on lake Michigan. My dad loved fishing.

A lesson I learned visiting my parents one summer. You do not put shelled pea pods down the garburator. I jammed up their disposal right goodly. Had to call a repairman!

Just so you know, this is a very high end home! However, all the things that she showed you, are common place in the vast majority of homes. There are 2 exceptions, the 2 ice makers in the refrigerator, normally there’s only one, and having six TVs in a home, isn’t normal, maybe 2 or 3, we have 3, but not six. As for the back yard, that’s the VERY rare exception, not the rule. I enjoy your channel, very much, keep up the good work👍

I live in the country, so I also have one of those mailboxes. These type of mailboxes seem to attract birds...so much so that my mailbox it always covered in bird poop. I don't have a garbage disposal, since I don't need one, plus, if you have a septic tank, you're not allowed to have one in my area. As for TV sets, well, since I live alone, I only have 4. Since my house is a raised rancher style, I only have 1 and 3/4 bathrooms in it. My house has three bedrooms, a full basement, a one car garage, hardwood floors, and is sitting on 1.2 acres of property. I had this house built for my wife (now my ex-wife), and it cost me $38,000. Of course, that was many years ago, so that's not what it would cost these days, but back then, I wasn't making much money so it was a struggle trying to pay the mortgage. The house in this video was more of an upscale house, not a typical house, so don't think that all Americans live in houses like this.

Haven't seen a garbage disposal in a newer home in many years. They were big in the 1980's, but quickly went out of style. I haven't had one in a house that I have owned since 1998. Airconditioning and ice (as are HUGE drinks...got to hydrate when you sweat it out in the summer heat!) are a must since most of the US is MUCH, MUCH hotter than Europe, nearer the equator. The prevailing westerly wind that blows over Europe from the equator helps too. The westerly wind from the Pacific doesn't make it past California, really. We get REALLY hot in the summer. Here in the SE US, 35-38C is common from May through October. This is a VERY common US home, outside of huge cities.

My home was 5 houses from the bay at the end of the road. It was on a peninsula so there was water behind as well. I loved living close to the water. It was a great place to raise my 3 kids. Great until 2012 Superstorm Sandy. It left a foot of water in my home. A huge tree fell in the front yard over my house! It was so tall the top was across the roof in the back yard. Thankfully, the roots made it drop slowly so it didn't do any damage.

European countries have far more extensive and accessible public transit systems. In the U.S., only the large cities like NYC, Atlanta, LA, etc. How do Y'all keep bugs out when you open your windows? Big sinks are usually a luxury for the richer folks buying 280,000 + homes. The refrigerator in her home is again only found in well-to-do people's homes. The things she discusses are not in the typical working American's home. No big gardens or yards as we call them. Most housing developments have each home taking up most of the property leaving just a few yards or meters between each home. They are packed together..

I used to live in a house that had windows that opened out like a door as you mentioned. The screen was on the inside and the window was opened and closed with a little hand crank at the base of the window frame. It also had 2 latches to lock it closed.

I love the big front yards with no fences. It really does make you feel connected to your neighbors, part of a community. We do cul-de-sac parties all the time. ❤

Wow, i live in central Pennsylvania and these all still seem like rich person homes to me. I got a home on a just under 6k square foot lot. 3br, 1 very tiny upstairs bath. Me, my fiancee, her 13yo son and our 9mo old daughter. I'd kill for a garage, or even a shed. Central air and heating are broke. Cant afford the $10k to have them replaced. We have a 100% clean burn gas fireplace downstairs we use for heat in winter along with electric heaters. In summer we put air conditioners in the windows. This place was fine when it was just the doggo and I. Add in another adult, teenage boy, infant, and their 2 cats and it gets cramped fast.

Dad would buy used cars from the surplus sales from the government, from 1961 through 2000. Fix them up, use them a lot, sale them off, get a couple more, but in his later life he got slower and slower at getting rid of some of the cars. When he died he had 11 vehicles: two trucks, two vans, and seven cars.

I hadn’t ever considered the number of televisions in a home as apart of a comparison between homes before, but now that she mentions it I’m realizing that we Americans maybe do have a lot. I live in a house by myself and there’s four televisions (one in the living room, one in each bedroom [so 2], one in the dining room, and one in the garage). I’m from Oklahoma and the one thing I noticed while traveling is the lack of storm doors. It’s a door (usually glass, clear plastic, etc with metal frame; sometimes also has a screen and a window that can be opened; my house has the screen and window, my parent’s house does not) that’s placed in front of the heavy wooden entry door to protect it from rain and hail. My house’s windows (which are fairly new as I upgraded them a few years ago) has an interior glass window that slides up, then a center glass window that slides up, then the screen…which can also be opened by sliding up. My front living room window is a large four pane window that slides horizontally open and there’s a screen each one. To open the screen, if wanted, they open outwards (well they’re supposed to, I have a bush in front that has grown a lot since the window was installed that makes it difficult to pop the screen open…it can be done, but it will knock some leaves off the branches and inti the house. Lol). And my back patio sliding glass doors also have a screen so they can be opened to let fresh air in without insects/pests getting inside. The screen is on the exterior portion and I normally keep the door I go in and out of into my backyard without the screen over it (it just tucks against the screen over the other door that’s normally kept closed anyways; but both doors can be opened into the center with the screens extended all the way across. As far as I know that’s just how they’re sold (it was installed when I updated my windows). I have no fence at all around my house and neither does my neighbor to the east of me. Our front and back yards are entirely open. My neighbor has a little dog she lets run around and play during the day. She has small spot around her backdoor she can enclose with a mesh type fencing for rainy days when she doesn’t want the dog to go running all over the yard and get muddy (the meshed area has the overhang of the roof so it stays dry usually unless we get high winds then it might get wet). The house on my west side is now a rental property and the new owners put up a fence that extends all the way into the front yard. While the new owners have proven to be unneighborly and unfriendly, the people renting the home are quite pleasant folk just like the folks who had previously owned the house (the previous owners sold the house because they needed more space; it’s a two bedroom house and they had a baby and already had three kids who were sharing a room….husband works in the oil field and wife works as ab office manager at a railroad so they had saved up some money to get a bigger house and got a great deal on a four bedroom house). Yeah I would have liked to see the backyard. It’s definitely got the lake or a big pond beyond it and it looks pretty massive. Maybe she has another video where she shows off the backyard.

Our house has windows that open out using a crank and the window screens are on the inside, easily removed in the winter. Her parents have a pretty nice home that we could not afford. It would be nice if someone would put out a video of multiple houses of differing sizes and in different areas. One of the things I appreciate about the flag on our mailbox is that when the postman comes and takes your mail, he pops the flag back down, so you know its gone. Question: Here if a home is for sale, the real estate agent often does a 360 degree tour of the home and puts it on the companies internet listings. Do they do that in other countries? Its the only way we got to find out what one of our neighbors place looked like inside. They were not very friendly, so don't know anyone who visited them. On our block a high percentage of the houses were built using the same size and room layout, except the houses across the road were mirror images to our side. By the way, I guess we are TV poor, just one good sized one that we seldom watch, but everyone's like are different. And we are cheap, because we have an exterior antennae for the TV, so no expensive cable or dish.

as far as how much space we have. the U.S. is roughly the same size as ALL of Europe (including the European part of Russia) and we have less than HALF of your population. additionally, we have vast areas of open land whereas you have large mountain ranges though the middle of your continent. our mountain ranges are a small one with moderate elevation and a large one, while long (north to south), isn't very wide (as far as mountain ranges goes) with high elevation, so they don't actually take up much land away from being useable, unlike the Alps. so we have MUCH more land for use by citizens, EVEN though we have a massive amount of National and State parks. Additionally, a large portion of our usable land isn't owned by the government or royalty and restricted from normal citizens, like a lot in Europe.

If you want to get a screen for your windows, Amazon has plenty of velcro window covers. With those you could simply detach and push your window open, then place it back on the velcro again. We have something similar for the back door that's a velcro framed net with magnets down the center, so you can push through it and it snaps closed behind you. When it's cold outside again, we just take it off the velcro until spring. Hope that helps!

You are happy/envious about that view, but lakes and rivers are often manmade and can flood. Homes are on the water are great until they flood....

Side note if you want to sharpen your garbage disposal blades drop ice cubes in side it, and if you want it to smell good, as it chops up the ice cubes spray lemon juice it or some kind of citrus juice in it and make sure it is all rinsed down, do this like once a month

As to the style of windows that open out the solution we came up with is make it a mechanical window. More commonly known as crank windows where there is a spinning leaver at the base of the window to open it up outwards and still allow for a screen on the inside.

So...I have about an acre or so of front yard and garden and then about 40 acres of forested land and a stream behind the house and 17 acres in front of the house... I live in the middle of a forest and love not seeing anyone at all! Lol it's so quiet... We have screens though, since we have tiny terrorizing biting insects. We don't have air conditioning, because for the most part, the temperatures are fairly mild during the hottest months but can get to -30 F in the winter. Pros and Cons.

The buttons on the door of the refrigerator are the ‘control panel’ because (of course) the refrigerator is computerized. 😂 You can change the temperatures of the frig and freezer. Tell it whether you want ice cubes or crushed (yes, many will crush it) ice. Tell it whether you want the exterior light off or on, etc. and the refrigerator can tell YOU if it needs something (such as a new water filter).

my parents didn't get AC until I graduated and left home. and it gets 110f in the summer. at least we had window screens and fans that was in 1968

She talking the Midwest, families always have multiple vehicles and for different purposes…. Trucks for yard work, hauling boats, SUV’s for the kids or getting groceries and maybe a car to go to and from work. Also in Wisconsin and Minnesota, there are about 28,000 lakes between the two states.

My father was transferred to Belgium. Once my parents moved in there they quickly found a handyman who installed screens on their windows and a screen door in the back for the dog to go in and out of.

As an American traveling in Europe the last several months, most of the places we've stayed did not have screens -- but, neither did they have mosquitoes to speak about. If you don't have mosquitoes/pests - no need for screens, simple as that. Also, it's pretty magical looking out a screen-less window on a moon-lit night. Something most American's only experience when camping..

I am 43 years old while some ice makers only make ice cubes most for the last 5 decades most make both regular cube ice an has a setting for crushed ice in other words they do both. That fridge she is showing in the video does both in fact it might even have a shaved ice setting some do.

Once my brother and I started driving at 16, my Dad bought us both a used car after we got our driver's license. We had 4 cars in the driveway. One for my mom, one for my dad, one for me, and one for my brother. What can I say? American truly has a car culture.

We have very open front yards here in Canada as well I find it does give a sense of community.

My garbage disposal is all the critters that live in the woods around my house. I have a handled "slop pot" of food stuffs that I dump out at the end of the yard. It disappears fast.

As a southerner when we move into a neighborhood we take a pie or flowers to our neighbors so we can get to know them and then we all look out for each other. Yes our kitchens are huge as they tend to be where people gather at the beginning of a dinner party. You guys don’t have garbage disposals and big ice machines? The ice makers have 2 settings-1 for whole cubes and another 2nd for crushed ice which is how we drink our tea. Iced tea is delicious. Also most of us have TVs in each room or tablets. Most of us live on about an acre of land and take pride in our yards. I do like British things too though. I adore the humor and my favorite bands are British. New sub.

That is not a typical American home. That is more of an upper middle-class home. She apparently comes from a more well to do family. Granted, yes we do tend to basically have one TV per person, unlike when I was growing up when you only had one TV for the family. Times had changed quite a bit. Lake homes tend to be very nice, large, and expensive. Not your typical home. Oh, window screens, and storm windows in the Northern climates are a MUST if you do not have double paned windows.

Just to clarify, her parents appear to be well off... or very much in debt LOL The AVERAGE American home only has 1 car per adult, 2-3 TVs, and does not have a garbage disposal (those are considered a high end kitchen addition, so average kitchens don't have that).

My thing with front yards, is how do children play outside if they are caged in like they are in the UK. Growing up, we would have massive games of capture the flag, cops and robbers, etc. but you need to be able to run across lawns to do that

I’m a blue collar American and to be fair this is a dream home to me too. My house is from 1955 and is 1,000 square feet. We do have a huge backyard, central air conditioning, lots of TVs, a garage, and a full basement though.

Many of us don't live in homes like the ones you have seen, the look on your face regarding the screens was priceless, I really thought screens were a worldwide thing.

Our camper has a couple windows that open outwards, there is a knob on the inside that you tun to open the window and it does not interfere with the screen at all. I don't think I have ever seen an American or Canadian home that does not have screens in the windows and glass doors.

Re windows in the US: Usually, the inside glass, the screen, and the outer glass (storm window) are all part of one unit. There's no "adding screens" to the window--it all works together and is purchased as one item. You just slide the piece you want to use to the lower level and the others to the top out of the way for the present. There are still some older houses that work differently, but the norm is the unified version.

You should definitely check out homes for people with lower incomes like others have said. These are usually people who live in small apartments, trailers, and double-wides. Rooms like garages, dinning rooms, and dens are additions that lower class individuals don't have. Similarly, the refrigerator, amount of tvs, kitchen island, amount of vehicles, size of the yards are also something found not in poorer individuals' homes.

If you want to have a backyard with access to a lake or any water source, you're probably looking at well over 1-4 million dollar homes. Its not cheap to have a house on a lake...or river...or ocean.

My mailbox is mounted on my wall by my front door. We have like 5 or 6 different types of mailboxes in America. My postal delivery person also picks up boxes I mail out. I buy stamps and postage online. I never go to the post office.
