In American Football, where the ball is is the priority. To simplify it, when any part of your body touches the ground out of bounds the last location of the ball (not that body part) is considered to be legal. For a touchdown the ball only has to cross the front of the Goal Line (not the back of it) to be ruled a touchdown. Thus a player can dive in the air with his body out of bounds, stretch his arms out so that the ball is still inbounds and as long as the ball crosses the front of the Goal Line before any part of his body touches the ground out of bounds it is ruled a Touchdown. And yes the orange pylon is considered part of inbounds so if the ball touches it it's a touchdown. If you look closer or a different angle of the catch st 6:17 in your video, you can see that it was not a one handed catch, it was much more amazing. He caught the ball using only 3 fingers.
@rrichmond83195
@rrichmond83195 Год назад
FYI, the orange marker (called a pylon) is used to mark the corner of the endzone and the sideline. Hitting the pylon is not a point in and of itself, rather it signifies that the ball did cross the plain of the endzone before the player was put of bounds. They even have cameras in them now to help referees see whether the ball entered the endzone or not.

The last player in the video is Tyreek Hill, the Cheetah, the play where you said "These guys could be sprinters in the Olympics." Funny you should mention that. Hill was a world-class sprinter in high school, approaching world record times in the 100m and 200m dash. He has one of the fastest NFL measured speeds, at 23.2mph. Usain Bolt hit 27.3 mph, but he wasn't wearing ~12 lbs of gear and wearing a uniform designed to be so tight that an opponent cannot grab any loose fabric, and so difficult to get into that players sometimes require help. Bolt and Hill have actually gone back and forth on Twitter, with Bolt admitting he'd have to train extensively before challenging Hill at middle distances.

Mert, there are scores of college football players who are 1) on the college track teams 2) olympic-level track athletes who try out depending on timing and 3) have been drafted or will be drafted in basketball and/or baseball. there are a few players who have been drafted for Major League Baseball, NFL and NBA. a few. there are scores of players who have been drafted in both MLB and NFL. a lot of these athletes are that good where they are good at almost every major team sport.

The player at 2:40 with the diving touchdown is Quarterback Taylor Heinicke. He has a great story. He was out of football, back at college, sleeping on his sister's couch studying for a math exam a week before that game. He struggled for a while to make it because he is considered too small and weak to play QB effectively. All of Washington's QBs got hurt. And the coach called him up because he was the only guy who knew the playbook. His first game back was this one, playing against Tom Brady in the playoffs, and they almost won. Brady and the Bucs ended up winning the Suoerbowl a few weeks later. That play in the clip created the local phrase "the legend of Taylor Heinicke". He's a fan favorite and currently still playing, and winning for the Washington Commanders.

The NFL is an elite league. It tries to have a Messi or a CR at every position; sometimes it even succeeds. Less than 1% of college players are drafted into the NFL and prior to the draft, players go to the Combine which is a series of athletic tests. Then if you're drafted, you have to fight for your position. The Roster at the beginning of an NFL season is 90 and has to be cut down to 53 players by the start of the season. Tough league and NFL stands for (Not for long).

Hey, I love your enthusiasm for American Football. It is a very exciting game. Dangerous, strategic, and athletic. The one handed catches are more common in this current era. Yes, the gloves are tacky, but these are also incredibly talented receivers, with massive hands, great strength, and they practice these things day in and day out. If you're still looking for a team to root for, these are my suggestions: 1.) Philadelphia Eagles, (from a tough working class city that is passionate about football.) Some say the fans are a bit unruly, but as a soccer (true football) fan, you may appreciate a good fan riot once in a while😉. They are doing very well this season. 2.) Green Bay Packers, (They are owned by city (residents of Green Bay) instead of having a traditional wealthy individual owner.) 3.) Whoever you want (there are lots of reasons to love a team.) Find one that fits you. 🍻

Sometimes the flips are just for show, but other times it's to give your upper body a better opportunity cross into the End Zone, because technically the ball only has to break the plane of the goal line (or touch the orange pylon) to be ruled a Touchdown. So lunging forward lets you close that gap quicker, and flipping forward allows your momentum to carry you over if you are getting hit.

Receivers have been using a synthetic rubber-coated glove (originally designed to be cut-resistant gloves for factory workers and others who handle sharp objects, but it turned out to be one of the most adhesive substances ever made) for about 10 years. The NFL banned Stick-Um and any other substance that can leave a residue on the ball in the early 80s, but you can wear any glove that won't mark up the ball or uniforms. It still takes a lot of grip strength to catch a ball like that because your average NFL QB can throw the ball at 50-60 MPH.

The orange marker on the endzone corners...it's not about actually hitting it. Its getting it within the margin. The endzone is not just the rectangle, of white border paint, but a 3-dimensional rectangle block. So the orange marker represents the up angle from the ground up, in those corners. When diving for the touchdown at those crazy angles, the markers help determine if the ball crosses the plain, in or out of bounds.

In order for a play to be ruled a touchdown all that is required is for the ball to "break the plane" of the endzone, or in other words, if any part of the ball crosses the front of the line of the endzone while the ball is still in possession, it is a touchdown.

A few plays I expected to be in there: -David Tyree catch in the Super Bowl -Julio jones catch in Super bowl vs Patriots -Julian Edelman catch in super bowl vs Falcons -Marshawn lynch beast mode run vs Saints -Martavis Bryant catch in Super Bowl vs Cardinals Google any of those the way I listed them it should come up easily. Leveon bell, Adrian Peterson, marshawn lynch, Barry sanders, Bo Jackson, rob gronkowski, Calvin Johnson, Jerry rice, are a few players that have sick career highlights as well.

The orange marker, the pylon, is basically a key arbitrary way to tell for certain at the corner of the end zone which plane the ball crossed, since the ball only has to break the plane of the line marking the end zone. That pylon is where the out of bounds line and end zone meet, so if a player can demonstrate that the ball touches just inside of that pylon, it breaks the plane of the end zone. Wasn't always like this and it's a great no BS way to immediately determine if it was a score or not. This is also why so many players nowadays jump when they approach the end zone. If you can just extend and get the nose of that ball across the line, touchdown. The flips are either from excitement or as a punctuation to a great play, but also a defender isn't always ready for a leap because they are typically taught to square up and drive the opponent's forward progress back or aside.

Football is the perfect television sport. The amount of stoppages allows for lots of commercials, but also lots of replays and commentary. Lots of time to talk about each play.

The spinning bullet leap was a touchdown (although we don't actually have to touch the ball down). To make a touchdown by running, a player must get only the tip of the ball across the goal line or touch the orange stick that defines the intersection of the goal line and the sideline. The position of the player's body does not matter, only the position of the ball. The player got the tip of the ball to scrape the inside of the stick. The speed of these players? The last play features Tyreek Hill, the fastest man in the NFL. No one can catch him from behind.

To score a touchdown, the ball has to break the plain (cross the white line) even if it's just the tip. Hitting the inside of the orange pylon counts. So when these guys are diving out of bounds, as long as they haven't touched the ground out of bounds yet they're still in play which is why they're always reaching the ball for the goal line or the orange pylon.

the amount of athleticism you need for the nfl is insane. during the nfl combine (kind of an event that tests the players potential), they need to do a broad jump to see how high they can jump, a 40 yard dash to see how fast they can run, they need to complete reps on the bench to see how strong they are, and many other tests to find out how agile you are

To quote straight from the rulebook: "A touchdown is scored when: ... (c) a ball in player possession touches the pylon, provided that, after contact by an opponent, no part of the player's body, except his hands or feet, struck the ground before the ball touched the pylon ..."

This entire video basically boils down to: “What-… Excuse me????? How the-? Bruh. They’re literally doing the impossible.” Also, Odell Beckham Jr. is a wide receiver who was on the New York Giants (as you saw) and LA Rams. He graduated from Louisiana State University and was just as amazing in college. He’s in free agency limbo right now due to a major tear of his ACL in the Super Bowl (NFL championship) that almost ended his entire career. Thankfully he’ll be back at some point, but he had so get reconstructive surgery in his knee and is *still* recovering. The field he was playing on was artificial turf. Artificial turf is actually a big controversy in the professional scene. A study was done a couple years ago and it was found that knee and ankle injuries have increased by 30% in the NFL since the turf has been implemented. Not all pitches have it, thankfully. The ones that do have no give, cause severe rug burn to any exposed skin, and the loose rubber gets everywhere and makes the ground slippery. We in the U.S. have a term for these injury-causing factors: “the turf monster.” And it got OBJ real good.

A lot of the plays that you mention the awareness for the runs is kind of funny because for Heineke (the one in the maroon gear), Newton (white and light blue), and Jackson (white and purple/black) they are quarterbacks who mainly don’t run the ball which makes the play that much more impressive

so in the rules for american football, there is a 'plane' on the 0 yard line marked by the two orange markers. if you 'break the plane' you score, and touching the pylons counts as breaking it.

*The Orange Marker - aka "The Pylon"* In NFL Football, the "plane of the goal" only needs to be crossed by the smallest tip of the ball. So that means a player only needs to advance THE BALL over the goal line without their knee being down on the field or being tackled. In other words, you cannot be tackled at the 2 yard line and then just stick your arm over the line with the ball, that will not be a score. But so long as you aren't "down" yet, just extending the ball past the plane of the goal line counts as a Touchdown, even if your body is immediatey pushed out of bounds after the tip of the ball crosses the pylon. The pylons (orange sticks) at the corners of the goal line are a physical representation of the edge of the goal-line. So if you can plonk over the pylon as you lunge, that is a Touchdown. And for the past 20 years, the pylons have small web-cam sized cameras inside them, so the referees can review the footage to see if the ball crossed the plane before the player was technically "down" (another player forces your knee down on field, tackled, or body lands out of bounds). So those two early plays where you said "is that even in?" were likely revewed by the referees and they saw the ball cross the goal line before the player was down or pushed out of bounds. And yes, as you said at around 10:50, just tipping the pylon while diving counts, so long as the pylon is crossed before you land out of bounds. As for the "flips" into the end-zone, I'm not a fan of the primadonna showoffs who flip just to show off. I far prefer old-school "grid-iron ground and pound" football, the old school war of attrition style. But when the flips are actually a defensive move to avoid a tackle, or to get up and over the defensive players, I am far more impressed. Those first two are superhero-level athleticism on display. P.S. You want to see legendary athleticism? Watch the career highlights of Pittsburgh Steelers Troy Polomalu. I think even Steelers haters have to admit that man was a sheer force of nature.

So nice to see Europeans actually give American football a chance. So often I just hear blind criticism about the sport from people who have just never given it a chance, but in reality, it is such a technical, athletic, and diverse sport that I think anyone can enjoy if they just give it a try.
