It’s good to see your recommendations again! I have to say the cover alone for each of these books has dropped me in yet each one for their stories! Thanks so much for taking the time to share :-)
I actually bought the book in Grasmere where it is set, which is my favourite place in the Lake District (the Grasmere Inn is stunning) and it has the most amazing little bookshop which actually stocks Dean Street Press titles, and that was the first place I actually saw them in the wild! But the Lakes are filled with amazing bookshops!
Hey Lil, what an interesting way to read short stories. I'm going to try it. I've got a complete stories of Catherine Mansfield from my late father in law 😊
I enjoyed this video as well as all of your videos. As an introvert I don't typically comment on videos but I wanted to ask if you've read May Smith's These Wonderful Rumours? I think you'd like it. It's the real diary of a young schoolteacher in Derbyshire during WWII, published by her son (I think). As you mentioned it's great to get a perspective of life during that time period outside of London. It is her actual diary so she doesn't always explain who all the people are she's writing about but I found that it didn't matter. My mom loved it too! She and I read mostly just British authors (including Irish) so I really appreciate your recommendations! Love also seeing your sweet Pup in videos! Take care from Lora in Virginia 📚
I’m excited to have two of these. I have enjoyed Elizabeth von Arnim, so hopefully I can come up with that one sometime soon too. I had totally forgotten about Silver Lake and I hiked the Coast to Coast a few years ago and have been wanting to read that. The scenery along the way was stunning! Thanks for the reminder about these. I plan to read the winter one around Christmas. I’ve gotten to where I enjoy the seasonal reading.
Hello again, nice to see you, especially with BLWW books in hand! I've 15 of them, need to read 4. Can't wait to get Intro to Sally, not available til July here in US. Love love von Arnim! Love!!! I want those you showed. K Mansfield and von Arnim were cousins, von Arnim was older and influenced Mansfield. I adore von Arnim.
Was waiting for another BLWW review video! Yay! 🥰 I have a lot of these on my shelves but have only read 3 so far 😳Have just finished 'War Amongst Ladies' and really loved it. I feel like Elizabeth Bowen's short stories are better than her novels, so am glad to hear one of hers is featured in 'Stories for Winter'! The cover for 'Forest Silver' is gorgeous 😍 I was really intrigued by the premise for that one and it's encouraging to hear that you thought it was good! x
I haven’t read any of the three you have just reviewed, but I am now very keen to ,the short story collection will definitely go on my Christmas wish list.I have bought and read “Father”and remember laughing out loud at certain scenes, classic comedic writing in fact I am re reading it as a lovely summer book .
