I share your affection for the Miss Silver mysteries of Patricia Wentworth. I agree with you; her mysteries without Miss Silver are quite hit-or-miss. I still enjoy them, because of the way she handles the character descriptions and the settings, but will probably not re-read them. I find many of her plots fantastic (as in over-the-top). However, her ability to evoke the time and place of her settings, and the descriptions of the people, is almost peak cozy mystery. She never writes down to the reader.

Jumped on this video as soon as I saw crime classics lol. Fear stalks the village is now on my list 😊

Oh, my gosh, Lil! My son and I watched a spooky old black and white movie which was an adaptation of Ethel Lina White’s The Spiral Staircase and I loved it and vowed to read more of her work! I did get The Wheel Spins from British Library but haven’t read it yet. I also have a short story of hers in an anthology. I’d love to buddy read any of her books anytime, should you be interested. I've just read The Wheel Spins, another BLCC reissue by Ethel Lina White. It's very good and was made into a film by Alfred Hitchcock and renamed, The Lady Vanishes. I now have Fear Stalks the Village and can't wait to read it. I've also just bought the latest BLCC collection, Lessons in Crime, and that too includes a story by her.

I’ve just realised that I read the Wheel Spins by Ethel Lina White which is the book that the many adaptations of The Lady Vanishes is based on. I took it on holiday and read it on the train while touring Switzerland so the setting was perfect, and I highly recommend it. And then you can watch the many adaptations!

I had to pause to order the Ethel White book😊.

As a Christie and D. L Sayers fan, these sound delightful!

Ethel Lina White wrote The Lady Vanishes, which was made into a great film by Alfred Hitchcock.

The only book I've read by Ethel Lina White so far is The Lady Vanishes. I rated it 4 stars. It was a page turner for sure 😊 there's a recent adaptation that I liked, too. But I liked the book a little better.
