Most of the jokes were based on the language. When Swedes are bad at English and can't think of the English word for something, they often try to make the Swedish word into English, which sometimes works but more often turns into something completely different. The same thing with sentence structure. Many sentences he said that just sounded strange to you had a different meaning to us who understand the Swedish sentence he was trying to translate from.

This is so funny because it messes with peoples language skills -if you are nordic! If you are not, its still funny but you miss like 50& of what he is making fun of....Still an awesome gag with the king and loads of celebrities there. The sexual innuendos you reacted to is a hilarious act of Robert, its bad translations of Swedish to English on his part that gives it a sexual innuendo! -Intentionally! That makes it 10x funnier for Swedes (nordics) that are fluent in English (most of us).

Jag har ett tal till kungen på en skiva som heter "Svenska skratt", men.. jag känner inte helt igen det du säger (det kan vara en annan märkesdag). Jag minns en episod av något barnprogram (tror det kan vara mumin-trollen) där dom mötte kungen, och någon sa "Hans Majestät konungen", och ett barn svarade ."Hans majonnäs honungen???". (OM jag minns rätt att det var mumin så är jag säker att det var Lilla My som sa det)

The thing with that speech is that he knew the Royal House would not allow that speech, so he sent them another one and he has said in a show once, he was waiting to be kicked out when he was holding that speech, but as the King and Princesses laughed so much no one did anything about it. I like that our Royalties has good sense of humor, even if the responsible people for what will be allowed and not don't have any humor.

You didn't say his name right, but don't have to apologize. He's regarded as Sweden's funniest man. He's done a lot and an idol of mine. His Swedish version of this is better. 1:00 That's Sweden's king btw. Pricks is swenglish since prick means dot in Swedish. There's a lot of word play here that is hard to get if you don't know Swedish. Sad how much people miss because of language barriers.

@@GeneralPhebiX It's not exactly the same skit but it's the same character doing something similar. Just search for "Robert Gustafsson - Tal till Kungen", it's on his own channel. But there are no Swedish subs. Robert is like the modern day jester for the king.

Regarding some comments that this show would not work outside a Nordic setting where the audience understands the Swenglish jokes. Well, the clip is a mix of at least two shows, we can see Helsinki (Swenglish "Hälsing River") and Royal Albert Hall. The latter featuring Obama in the audience etc. Seems to me the non-nordic audience is having a great time as well.

If you knew the Swedish language this would be funnier because what Robert does is speak Swenglish where he translates sentences word by word instead of trying to translate whole sentences. So what you hear as sexual innuendo, is not sexual in Swedish, but that's part of the joke because it becomes that in English, because of his faulty translation.
@rogerlundstrom6926
@rogerlundstrom6926 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, it's a bit unfortunate that most of the Jokes Gustafsson makes when he is doing a "character" and speak in English, he is actually making fun of trying to use Swedish words with a bit of English "flare" and also use common phrases with specific meanings in Swedish where the specific meaning in English is very different.. So.. It may be fun for an English man to watch someone just say stupid things, but to get all the jokes you really would have to be very familiar with spoken Swedish.

Its an event during "Nordisk Råd" (Norwegian) - So my guess its motsly swedes, finns, norwegians, danes and icelandic people in the arena. And I think most of them get the "swedish jokes" ;)
@rogerlundstrom6926
@rogerlundstrom6926 5 месяцев назад
@@captain-fjord .. Absolutely.. from the SPECIFIC circumstance. we know that him saying.. "I am the Swedish chef" is specifically a joke about.. BOTH the concept of the "Swedish chef" in the muppets, but ALSO it's about the Swedish word "Chef" which is pronounced QUITE differently (in english I THINK the best way for me to write it would be "Cheyf") would mean.. "boss".. so.. yeah.. I agree with you.. that it is absolutely a joke that works VERY well within the nations of scandinavia IF they recognize what is or isn't intended.. but.. the point I WANTED to make was specifically how this.. EVEN if it is presented in English.. it IS.. (unfortunately) based WAY too much on the potential miunderstanding that there WILL be between the languages.. So.. yes.. this IS hilarious to Swedish people (and as you mentioned a lot of other people who KNOW about specific phrases).. but.. unfortunately.. DESPITE it being.. KIND of "english" in nature.. the English part IS based on the fact that Swedish people (and other people who'd know Swedish).. actually DO know English very well so they recognize the bad interpretations.. My point was that.. this specific humour MAY be based in English.. but the comedy is derived from.. understanding how people who know the nordic languages MAY present their thoughts wrong.. so.. something that IS "harmless" MAY be said in a way that is VERY sexualized.. or something else of that nature. I wasn't trying to accuse anytone of anything.. just saying that this.. probably wasn't as easily recognized as a joke and WHY it would be a joke.. for someone who doesn't know idioms (common phrases) in Swedish, and so on.. Technically I REALLY!! want to translate the "Little mosque on the prairie" to share with people I know who aren't QUITE as proficiant as I am in English (at least not as ready willing and able to watch things that ARE in English).. and.. actually.. translating.. is a VERY difficult thing. If anything I would WISH that I would meet someone who SERIOUSLY know BOTH languages.. and.. agree with the concept of the series.. and.. whom may help me translate.. So.. that is kind of the.. "thing".. the issue.. how we look at things.
